A Seasonal Celebration in the Heart of Courtenay

Downtown Courtenay is THE place to be this holiday season with 5 weekends of fun fi lled celebrati on for all ages! From choir and theatre performances and free kids arts and craft s to special dining events, shopping specials, music nights, walking tours, art exhibits, charity drives and craft fairs - there is goodwill, cheer and fun for everyone at Downtown Courtenay WinterFest!Don’t miss the big Moonlight and Magic kick off celebrati on Friday November 22 featuring magic, lights, fi re and phenom-enal specials that are here...and then they’re gone! The streets will be alive with special events, live music, Christ-mas shopping sales, kids craft acti viti es and more. At 6 pm don’t miss the live fi re dancing spectacle with Vesta Entertain-ment at 5th and England!

Moonlight and Magic is also the kick off for the annual Walk the Windows event. Explore the beauti ful seasonal window displays throughout downtown and vote for your favourite! Entry forms are avail-able at all parti cipati ng businesses and winners receive a shopping spree down-town! Kids can keep their eyes peeled for the litt le penguins in some of the window displays.

The fi rst 2 weekends of Downtown Courtenay WinterFest are chocked full of acti viti es!Nov 22-24th acti viti es include Moon-light and Magic and the annual Comox Valley Christmas Parade. This weekend is all about getti ng into the spirit of the season! Friday Night come be part of a spectacle of light, fi re and fun with great live music events!

Then on Saturday, visit acti viti es ranging from the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market with special guest Luke Blu Guthrie to drop in craft s with Restless Raven Art Lab at the WinterFest Hub.

At 2 pm join us for the fi rst free commu-nity concert at the WinterFest Hub with acclaimed Winnipeg songwriter JP Hoe. That night you can take in some great events including Matt hew Good at the Sid Williams Theatre!

Nov. 29 & 30’s theme is the Great Outdoors! This is a fantasti c weekend to explore businesses downtown that feature all the gear you’ll ever need for outdoor adventures all year ‘round. Whether you are looking for skis or snowboards, paddle boards or wet suits, you can fi nd it downtown.

Friday night you can take in the Banff Mountain Film Festi val at the Sid Wil-liams Theatre, then on Saturday visit the crew from Mount Washington Alpine Resort and enter to win lift passes and more. Just bring a donati on for the food bank and drop it off at the Scoti a Bank Plaza from 11am - 2 pm and be entered to win!

Saturday’s kids acti viti es at the Win-terFest Hub from 11-2 focus on earth friendly art and craft s with Earth Art Studio. At 2 pm the Helen Austi n Family Band serves up great music for all ages!

Delicious Downtown Tantalizing Tastes from Farm to Fork!December 6th and 7th experience great culinary adventures with samples from local shops and great gift opti ons for your foodie friends. From chocolate and

treats, to teas, gift certi fi cates, and kitch-en gadgets, you can fi nd the perfect gift !

Local restaurants will be off ering special fresh sheets that celebrate local farms and ingredients. Billy D’s, Zocalo Cafe and Union Street Grott o are off ering live music events throughout WinterFest. It’s the perfect marriage of food and culture!

Saturday you can sign up for a very spe-cial Food Tour leaving at 1:00pm from the Sid Plaza leading you on an adven-ture to restaurants and shops for a be-hind the scenes glimpse of some popu-lar, and unexpected, foodie desti nati ons. Pre-registrati on is required; limited spots are available. $30 per person with 50% of all funds raised going to the Comox Valley Transiti on Society. To register: [email protected].

Walk on the Wild Side & ‘Twas the Night Before December 13th and 14th explore the wild side of Downtown Courtenay and Christmas gift s that are a litt le ‘outside the box’. From tatt oo arti sts, salons and spas, sensual gift s, romanti c reads, un-usual art and extreme craft s, there are many opportuniti es to explore the un-usual this Christmas. Specialty shops in the downtown core off er unique items and services that can’t be found in their big box counterparts.

Friday Night check out local fi lm makers Fox & Bee for a special multi media pre-sentati on at Union Street Grott o.

If music is more your thing don’t miss the sultry and sexy Lounge Night at Billy D’s with the Jilli Marti ni band. If you’re look-ing for something more acti on packed the Sid is showing Warren Miller’s ‘Tick-et to Ride’ part of a legendary fi lm series that takes ski/snowboard fans on an ac-ti on packed journey to some of the most exoti c desti nati ons in the world.

Saturday the WinterFest Hub is off er-ing craft acti on from 11 -2 and at 2 pm presents Captain Thunderpants and his holiday Christmas sing-along. This will be a fun show for the whole family. Relax, kick back and get into the mood with some hilarious and swashbuckling tunes from the Captain!

Saturday is also the 2nd annual Elevate Winter Bazaar featuring edgy and unusu-al art and craft s from Valley arti sts. The lights will be dimmed in the belly of the Lower Nati ve Sons Hall from 9-5 during the sale, workshops, delicious food from Tria Fine Catering, DJ’s and more!

WinterFest wraps up with ‘Twas the Night Before on the weekend of De-cember 20th and 21st. Carolers on the streets and off erings of hot chocolate or spiced apple cider from local restau-rants. At 6 pm cyclists are invited to be part of a Imagine Comox Valley’s Winter Solsti ce Criti cal Mass Bike Ride leaving from the corner of 4th and Fitzgerald and testi ng out the new bike lanes on Fitzgerald!
