NOVEMBER 2019
Messages from our 2019-2020
Deer Valley #3871 Presidents
From: Worthy President
Pete MacKinnon: Brothers and Sisters DV Eagles 3871: I was going to dedicate my letter to the need
to show respect and appreciation for all of
those who volunteer to cook and serve us
food, but I will save that for another time.
Instead, I would like to focus on the time or
lack thereof that we spend with our loved
ones.
I lost my beloved Mother, Colette MacKinnon,
in the early morning hours of October 13th.
There were some things left unsaid and that's
something I will to live with for the rest of my
life. My mom was a truly wonderful and
caring woman and I should have spent more
time with her the last few years of her life.
That being said, I know she left this earth
knowing I loved her very much and
appreciated all she did for me to make me
the man I am today.
I implore you to take the time, as
inconvenient as it might be, to spend time
with those you care about and tell them how
much you love them.
In closing, I would like to leave you,
paraphrasing, a part of my mom's favorite
speech by the late Jim Valvano.
There are 3 things we all should do every
day. 1st, cry. Something should bring a tear
to your eye. 2nd, laugh. We all need a good
laugh every day. 3rd, think. Something in
your day should make you really sit down and
think. So, there you have it. Cry, laugh and
think. You do those 3 things, then that is a full
day. Something to ponder when life seems to
bring you down.
Your Aerie President, Pete MacKinnon
From: Madam President
Lisa Crockett:
Brothers and Sisters:
I’d like to send my condolences out to the
MacKinnon family. Sorry Pete!
Just wanted to thank everyone for your love
and support for Hospice of the Valley. We
made over $5,400.00 in September. I am
sending that check to Grand and applying for
a Grant towards H.O.V too. GO TEAM
#3871.
November did not have a charity of the
month. We have people stepping up for
charities like Children’s X-Mas Party,
Alzheimer’s and for Animal Lovers too.
Come and check out all the delicious dinners
on Saturday’s. Bands on the 16th and 23rd.
Hope everyone has a safe and Happy
Thanksgiving!!

Special Message From Your Officers:
We would like to thank all the volunteers who
worked so hard on the many potluck’s and
social events we have throughout the year.
We are very discouraged by the participation
of our Eagle Brothers and Sisters. We have
had many events this year so far, most of
them free to everyone, the only thing asked
of those attending was to bring a side dish or
desert. There must have been 75 – 100
people in the social room during these
events, and only 7 to 10 people bring a side
dish. Now friends, even if you can’t cook, or
bake, there are several grocery stores plus a
dollar store in the area that have a deli, a
bakery, fresh vegetables, etc. We know a lot
of you work and can’t prepare food but,
nothing said you couldn’t prepare something
the night before or something in a crockpot!
It is sad to see that the ones who do
participate are the same ones every time
there is a special function, and yet the ones
who bring NOTHING are the first ones to go
up and get food. Is this fair to the rest of the
people who took the time to bring something?
You could have brought rolls from the dollar
store, a veggie tray, fruit tray, chips, pie,
cake, cookies, they are already prepared for
you at the store.
Please people, let’s get together as a family,
like we used to do, there was always more
food than the group could eat. We feel if you
can sit and drink, you should be able to afford
a side dish, correct us if we are wrong, but
we don’t think so. Everyone thinks someone
else is going to bring something and then no
one brings anything.

Eagles 3871.

Suggestion Box, located in the rear hallway,
next to the Trustee’s Office. OH, please

A Touch of Life
Petey came home from school with another
black eye. “Have you been fighting again?”
his mother asked him.
“I’m sorry, Mom,” he replied.
“I told you the next time you lost your temper,
you should count to ten.”
“I did,” said Petey. “But Jimmy’s mom told
him to only count to five, so he hit me first.”
TOUCH OF LIFE
A husband raced into his house. “I’ve found a
great job!” he exclaimed to his wife. “The pay
is incredible, they offer free medical
insurance, and give three weeks’ vacation!
“That’s does sound wonderful,” said the wife.
“I’m glad you think so,” replied her husband.
“You start tomorrow.”
On the way to preschool, the doctor let his
daughter look at his stethoscope. His little
daughter picked it up and began playing with
it. This thrilled the father as he thought,
Perhaps one day she will follow in my
footsteps and become a doctor.
But then he heard her as she spoke into the
instrument, “Welcome to McDonald’s. May I
take your order?”
Touch of HUMOR
A man applied for a job at a construction firm.
“We take turns making the coffee,” said the
foreman, “Do you know how to make coffee?”
“I sure do,” said the applicant.
“And can you drive a forklift?”
“Why? Just how big is the coffee maker?”
A Touch of Humor
A Kindergarten teacher was having a difficult
time putting each child’s boots on after a very
rainy morning. After some hard tugging, she
finally to Barry’s on his feet when he said,
“These aren’t mine.”
The frustrated teacher had to pull hard to
remove them from the little lad’s feet. She sat
down next o him and asked, “So whose boots
are these?” Barry answered, “They’re my
brother’s but my mom lets me wear them.”
School is back in session PLEASE
drive carefully!
