CENTREPORT CANADA FOOTPRINT TOUR

On September 20, 2018, forty of CentrePort’s Marketing Partners joined Diane Gray, President & CEO, for a bus tour of CentrePort Canada. Participants were able to see new construction underway first hand, hear from development partners and participate in the Freightliner Manitoba/Canada West Limited media event hosted at Fort Garry Fire Trucks - a world-leading manufacturing facility. A key focus of the tour was to showcase future opportunities at CentrePort, including the future home of the CentrePort Canada Rail Park.

Tour attendees also visited the brand new Red River College Skilled Trades and Technology Centre (STTC). The STTC is a 104,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that increases trade and technology spaces at the college by more than 30 per cent and prepares up to 1,000 students a year for careers in high-demand industries including carpentry, electrical, and manufacturing. It is anticipated the facility will play a key role in boosting Manitoba’s workforce by 75,000 highly trained people by 2020 and is an exceptional example of the integration between education and industry, ensuring graduates meet the needs of Manitoba’s employers.

Thank you to all of our partners who participated and to Fort Garry Fire Trucks and Red River College for opening up their facilities for the CentrePort community to experience.

NEW PRODUCT NOW AVAILABLE AT CENTREPORT: INDUSTRIAL CONDOS FOR SALE

Industrial activity at CentrePort continues to pick up speed. With one almost sold out industrial park (Brookside Industrial Park Phase III) and another with sales well under way in the pre-selling phase (BrookPort), industrial land is a hot commodity. The latest offering for the CentrePort area are industrial condos for sale in Sherwin Park.

Recently brought to market by Cushman & Wakefield | Stevenson, the condos are located at an industrial complex located adjacent to the Winnipeg James A. Richardson International Airport.

Industrial condos are a rare offering in the Manitoba market but popular in other cities as an alternative to long-term lease arrangements. Benefits include:• the ability to build equity and long term benefit; • insulation from rental hikes; and, • the option to improve the space and increase the value of the

investment.

Spaces range from 2,750 square feet to 14,200 square feet. Units are an ideal space for manufacturing, wholesale and distribution users. Learn more here.

UNITED WAY WEEK AT CENTREPORTAs a part of the United Way annual campaign at CentrePort Canada, the CentrePort team had the privilege of visiting Main Street Project Inc., an agency partner of United Way Winnipeg. During a tour of their multiple facilities, staff learned about the incredible work they do in the community and their big vision for the future. CentrePort regularly supports Main Street Project throughout the year by donating excess food from events and through supporting their clothing drives.

Main Street Project is currently embarking upon a capital campaign to create new shelter space and a sustainable future. This new and redeveloped shelter space will be located in the former Mitchell Fabrics building at Main Street and Logan Avenue. To see their ambitious vision for the future and to learn more about the capital campaign, visit: www.mainstreetproject.ca/capital-campaign.

Following CentrePort’s visit to Main Street Project, the team visited the Lunch Bell Bistro. Lunch Bell Bistro partners with Changes Supported Living Services Inc. to create Winnipeg’s first restaurant staffed almost entirely by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. www.lunchbellbistro.ca

150 NEW TRUCK DRIVERS TRAINED THROUGH SUBSIDY PROGRAM

Professional truck driver training in Manitoba is taking off, and the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) couldn’t be more pleased with the interest.

“The provincial government announced a driver training and wage subsidy program late last year, which we strongly encouraged our members to look at and consider for their organizations,” explains MTA Business Operations Manager Aaron Dolyniuk. “The interest and uptake for this program has gone beyond what we expected. Almost 150 new drivers have been trained this year through the program. Between the training costs and wage subsidies, that is worth over a million dollars for Manitoba’s trucking industry.”

Furthermore, the driver training schools that are part of the program are some of the best in the province, which means that the new drivers are coming out of school as well-trained, professional drivers, contributing to the provincial trucking industry’s already safe record. The MTA welcomes these new drivers to the industry.
