Important!! Don’t forget PE shoes.

Now that weather has been changing, wearing the right footwear for PE is important. Wearing boots can create problems with PE

participation. Thank you for your help!

Boost After School Program News

Each quarter Boost offers different options during club time. This quarter we are offering:

Robotics, Coding, Crafts, Science Experiments, Math Fun and Engineering

Boost students have been busy creating, learning, and discovering new and exciting things. Our staff is busy brainstorming and planning for the next quarter.

ELKS HOOP SHOOT

The ELKS HOOP SHOOT takes place during PE time for 2nd-5th grades. Anyone who

is between the ages of 8 and 12 as of April 1st is eligible to compete. The winners of

each age division in girls and boys will go on to compete in a local competition in

January. Our hoop shoot will consist of 15 free throws. Ages 8-9 will shoot from 4

feet in front of the free throw line. Ages 10-12 will shoot from the free throw

line. York Elementary school will begin the competition in November,

so start practicing!!

Edu-PUP at YES Everest has been a part of our YES family since last Spring. This year, Everest has been spending time in many of our classrooms. Students get a chance to walk, take care of, read to, and spend time with Everest. Many schools across the country have welcomed Edu-PUPS into their schools. Companion animals are natural teachers. They help students learn about responsibility, loyalty, empathy and sharing. Dogs, specifically, help develop self-esteem, responsibility, motivation, self-discipline and communication skills. Students are always excited to spend time with Everest and he has been a welcomed part of our day at YES.

A Moment for Music

The bear went over the mountain. The bear went over the mountain. The bear went over the mountain,

to see what he could see.

And just what did he see? Well, you'll have to come watch the 2nd grade music programs to find out. Mrs. Hansen's and Miss McConnell's classes will be performing on November 7. Ms. Culotta's and Miss Harlow's classes will perform on November 8. Both performances begin at 9:30 a.m. in the York Elementary School multi-purpose room. We hope you are able to come and enjoy this event with us!

Friday, November 17th

Every student may not be bound for a university, but there is no reason that every child shouldn't at least consider it. This is the philosophy behind "College Day," at York Elementary School. The Y.E.S. staff will focus on sharing their excitement for higher education, and making college more familiar and accessible to students. Thinking about education beyond elementary may just make what happens today in the classroom a little more relevant for kids. Set Goals! Dream Big! Your student can join us in celebrating College Day by wearing a shirt that represents a college (maybe one a family member is/has attended, a favorite school you feel connections with, or we can always come up with a Husker shirt!).

Picture Retake Day!!!

Friday, November 17, will be picture retake day! For any

students that were absent, new students or retakes.

Please make sure you have your picture envelope.

November Nurse’s Notes

Nothing throws a monkey wrench into your day like a child waking up feeling sick. But before you cancel your meetings and call out for carpool assistance, know that not every cough and sniffle means your child should stay home from school.

When to keep your child home

There are some hard and fast rules that all parents should stick to when it comes to illness and keeping your kids home. If your child has any of the following symptoms, it's time to let the school know she won't be at her desk:

Fever

Nausea and vomiting

Diarrhea

A rough night (for example, if your child was up all night coughing or having trouble breathing)

Listlessness, lethargy

No appetite

Pink eye

Your child doesn’t seem "herself/himself”

If your child is staying home from school, it doesn't mean you have to take them to the doctor. Most childhood illnesses can be taken care of with fever-reducing medications (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) and tender love and care. However, if your child shows any of the following symptoms, you should call your doctor.

Vomiting or diarrhea that lasts more than a few hours

Any cold or cough that doesn't go away after six or seven days — or if your child's cold worsens and he develops a fever

Ear pain with a fever, or drainage leaking from the ear

Sharp and persistent stomach or abdominal pains

Severe sore throat

Blood in urine or diarrhea

No fluids in more than 24 hours

Simple stuffy noses or coughs don't stop many kids from enjoying and participating in school activities. If your child is congested or has a sore throat but is still active in the morning and able to get them self ready is a good sign that they can handle the school day. However, you should check in with your child's school.

A Wall of Honor will be displayed next week near the office in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Each child in our school is invited to add the name of a veteran they would like to recognize.

Please complete the following form if you are interested in participating in this activity and send

back by Friday, November 3rd!

PLEASE CUT OUT BEFORE TURNING IN!
