Mr. Herr has acquired some of the finest player pianos ever made, including the Steinway Pianola Pianos, as well as the finest and most historically important piano rolls ever created. Join Diane Pastor, R.N., for a presentation that will focus on the care of a family member with Alzheimer’s disease. She will provide informa-tion about different services that are available to support family caregivers including home health-care, adult day care, nursing homes, and support groups. Randolph Herr & His Pianola(N) Friday, November 30, 7:30 p.m. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could play the piano like a virtuoso? Imagine being able to create note-perfect performances or having a repertoire larger than any pianist who ever lived. Does this sound too good to be true? In the late 1800s the Aeolian Company manufactured a player piano called the Pianola, an automatic device that was capable of producing exquisite sound. Some of the finest pianists of the era recorded rolls for the Pianola. Join Randolph Herr, an expert on player pianos, for a rare opportunity to hear a Pianola in concert. Mr. Herr has acquired some of the finest player pianos ever made, including the Steinway Pianola Pianos, as well as the finest and most historically important piano rolls ever created. In this program, Mr. Herr will play a recently acquired roll by Dr. Max Bruch playing an arrangement of his Violin Concerto. Mr. Herr will also play several rarely heard rolls including Liszt’s “La Sonnambula” performed by Arthur Friedheim, and works by Liszt performed by Alexander Siloti. Free tickets are available November 3 at both library buildings.

The Story ofWinnie-the-Pooh Winnie-the-Pooh, first created by author Alan Alexander (A. A.) Milne in 1926, is quite possibly the most famous teddy bear in the world. The stuffed bear was given to Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, on his first birthday. Over the years, Christopher acquired other stuffed animals: Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger, Kanga, and Roo. They all became characters in stories set in the Hundred Acre Wood, the sur-rounding area of Milne’s country home, Cotchford Farm in Ashdown Forest, Sussex, England. Rabbit and Owl were based on animals that lived in the woods. Since 1987, the original Pooh and four of his best friends—Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, and Tigger—have been living in the Central Children’s Room at the Donnell Library Center of The New York Public Library in New York City. The Northport-East Northport Public Library owns a large number of fine editions of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories, many illustrated by A. A. Milne’s artistic collaborator Ernest H. Shepard. Also in the collection are Winnie-the-Pooh theme books, audio books, and videos. A sampling follows:

The House at Pooh Corner by A. A. Milne

Now We Are Six by A. A. Milne

The Pooh Cook Book by Virginia Ellison

The Pooh Craft Book by Carol S. Friedrichsen

Three Cheers for Pooh: The Best Bear In All the World by Brian Sibley
