THANKSGIVING SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2017 PRELUDE “Now Thank We All Our God” S. Karg-Elert WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP OPENING PRAYER
ANTHEM / CONGREGATIONAL HYMN NO. 721 “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” Courtney Chancel Choir (congregation will be invited to stand and join) CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSON (in unison)
Holy God, giver of blessings, we thank you for the mercies we know and ask your forgiveness for the times we fail to acknowledge you as the source of all that is good. Please forgive us when we hoard your gifts and declare, “That’s mine”. Forgive us when we are blind to the good and ignore the bounty around us. Help us to share, to see, to live gratefully. Through Jesus Christ we pray. (Silence for personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
SONG OF RESPONSE NO. 359 “Give Thanks” Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ his Son. (repeat) And now let the weak say “I am strong,” let the poor say “I am rich,” because of what the Lord has done for us. (repeat) Give thanks!
+++ SCRIPTURE LESSON Psalm 136 (responsive)
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. 2 Give thanks to the God of gods His love endures forever. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords His love endures forever.
4 to him who alone does great wonders His love endures forever. 5 who by his understanding made the heavens His love endures forever. 6 who spread out the earth upon the waters His love endures forever. 7 who made the great lights— His love endures forever. 8 the sun to govern the day His love endures forever. 9 the moon and stars to govern the night His love endures forever. 10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt His love endures forever. 11 and brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever. 12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm His love endures forever. 13 to him who divided the Red Sea[a] asunder His love endures forever. 14 and brought Israel through the midst of it His love endures forever. 15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea His love endures forever. 16 to him who led his people through the wilderness His love endures forever. 17 to him who struck down great kings His love endures forever. 18 and killed mighty kings— His love endures forever. 19 Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever. 20 and Og king of Bashan— His love endures forever. 21 and gave their land as an inheritance His love endures forever. 22 an inheritance to his servant Israel. His love endures forever. 23 He remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever. 24 and freed us from our enemies His love endures forever. 25 He gives food to every creature His love endures forever. 26 Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Irene and I wish to thank everyone for making last Sunday so special. The warmth of your welcome, together with so many of you taking the time for a ‘wee’ chat, a hug and sharing your story made it very special. We would also like to thank all of the staff, the choir, the praise team and of course our guest Piper for their enthusiastic support. But it is the dedicated volunteers who arrange the lunch and serve with the Session, Deacons and all other groups which make First Presbyterian “A Family of Faith” and we wish to extend our thanks to each and every one of them. Deacons
Merry Christmas Church Family! We are a family of faith. In the Narthex, the Deacons have provided a folding screen where, with one Christmas card, you can greet your entire church family. This is an opportunity to save your time, money and the earth’s resources. Bring your own card OR choose one from an assortment available at our table in the Narthex on Sunday mornings, until Dec. 17. Please donate the amount of money, large or small, that you might have spent on cards for your church family. Checks can be made out to FPCP with “Deacon’s Christmas Cards” on the memo line. This project helps the Deacons raise funds for some of the good causes we support, such as College Care gift cards, Local Mission and Food and Fellowship events. The screen will be in place following the Hanging of the Greens on Sunday, November 19th. You may leave your cards in the folder on the screen, or with Stu Dodge, Church Business Manager. Thank you from the Deacons and your church family!

Each year, FPCP supports the Salvation Army through their Angel Tree program benefiting need children and their families in our local community. To participate, all you need to do is choose a tag from the Angel Tree located in the Narthex. Gift ideas are listed on each tag to make shopping a little easier. Bring your new, unwrapped gift(s) back to the church no later than Sunday, December 10th. Be sure to secure the tag to the top of the package. The Deacons will deliver the gifts to the Salvation Army for distribution to ensure every child in our area has a blessed Christmas. Share the joy of Christ's birth by adopting an Angel of your own!"

Dear Fellow FPCP family,
Last year while planning the 2017 budget, the finance committee and session made a decision to accept a challenge, that is, to accept a budget that was not fully covered by pledges of the congregation. We did this in order to maintain the services and mission work that we have come to expect of our church. Although we have received some generous con-tributions, we have also incurred unplanned maintenance and other expenses over our approved budget.
As we approach the end of our fiscal year, we find that we have not yet been able to meet the $54,000 budget deficit, as estimated last year.
Yours in Christ, The Finance Committee

Hanging of the Greens
This year, the Hanging of the Greens, which is a family event, will take place TODAY, November 19, 2017. It will begin immediately following the second services. We will provide a light luncheon before we begin decorating our entire church for Advent. Each area will have the decorations there and the trees will already be up. When one area is completed, you are welcome to go to another room to help. If you have school age children, activities will be planned for them in Fellowship Hall. We will be making cards for members who are not able to attend church. The youth groups will help decorate the Upper Room. They did a great job last year!
The Session has called a Congregational Meeting to be held on December 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM for the purpose of electing a
Pastor Nominating Committee.

Presbyterians for Earth Care Did You Know???? If your group is planning a function at the church and is interested in using real plates/silverware/glasses, Presbyterians for Earth Care will provide dishwashing services at no charge. We encourage you to utilize this service and eliminate the use of paper products as much as possible. If you must use disposable items, please use the appropriate guidelines for recycling paper products.
Battery recycling will resume on the first Sunday of each month. Look for the battery bucket in the Narthex on these first Sundays. Due to fire hazard risk, we cannot collect batteries any other times except on these Sundays. Thanks for your cooperation.
