MORE PICTURES OF SITE VISIT

WITH CORY CODY MIAMI DOLPHINS YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP

Here are some of the entries from Cory’s log:

Coached 10—12 year old team going over plays and position assignments; supervised

the campers at lunch

Supervised campers during autograph sessions

Met with campers’ parents and went over security parameters

Took charge of drills and exercises

Coached 7—9 year old team assignment positions and plays

Assembled tables for Gatorade stations

Signed out radios

Put field back in order at the end of the day

Prepared tables and water coolers for lunch

Notice that Cory uses action verbs with all of his entries. This is a tip for all of our read-

ers. Keeping a log is more than reporting to your supervisor about what you are doing. It

gives you a history which can easily be transferred when you are updating your resume.

Also, note that Cory is more than a coach. He is involved in operations. Senior Director

of Community Affairs, Twan Russell, noted this during the site visit and praised Cory’s

work ethic. Thanks to Twan, Troy Drayton, Cassy Congemi, and Ashley Gillis for making

the site visit special. Go Cory! Go Dolphins!

PRACTICUM OPPORTUNITIES A practicum is a “mini-internship.” Although a minimum of 75 hours of experience is required

for 3 credit hours, most students go well beyond the minimum. There are two opportunities to

work directly with Professor Olson during the 2016-2017 academic year. They are as follows:

Fall 2016 - Conine Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament. Here’s a chance to network with

local leaders and learn how to put on a long running golf tournament. Attend monthly

meetings and assist Professor Olson who is the Volunteer Coordinator for the event. The

tournament requires a minimum of 75 volunteers. The actual tournament date is set for

Monday, January 23, 2016. Meetings will start in late August.

Winter 2017 - Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s Plywood Regatta. Here’s

another opportunity to network with local leaders and be part of a long standing event

which benefits youth who are interested in boat building, teamwork and scholarships. Pro-

fessor Olson serves as the event’s Head Judge. There are many moving parts to this great

event. The event will take place on a weekend in April and there will be monthly meetings

leading up to the event.

Please note that both organizations are looking to involve young people on their commit-

tees! So you will be welcome!

If you are interested in these opportunities, please contact Professor Olson at

[email protected]. or (954) 383-1132.

JOB OPPORTUNITY AT THE NORCECA My name is Karen Patterson and I’m an assistant in USAV’s communications department. I will be in Fort Lauderdale as the U.S. team PR rep during the NORCECA U20 Continental Champi-onships. One of the key things I’m hoping you can assist me with is recruiting a handful of independent contractors to assist the NORCECA Press Director during the tournament. Ideally we’re looking for a few people who can assist with getting quotes from athletes and coaches after the non-U.S. matches in the mix zone, transcribing the quotes for the PD, up-loading photos, etc. I don’t know if there are students around looking for a few hours of intern-like experience. We do have money to pay these individuals, plus they’d get to sit and watch the matches. Karen Patterson Assistant, Communications 815-975-2526.
