Alex, who graduated from Rawlins County High School in 2008 and entered the Army, was stationed in Alaska from October 2008 to October 2010, then in New York at Ft. Drum from 2010 to July of 2012. On his first deployment to Afghanistan, he served in battalion headquarters. On the second, he spent one year as in- fantry team leader. Alex is now pursuing a college education, starting at Hutchinson Community College for his general requirements. But he re- mains in the service to his country through the National Guard. And like other veterans, he supports and val- ues efforts like the Wounded Warrior project. “The money is going to help people who have shed blood for their country,” he stated. She also pre- sented the commissioners with an application for of- fice help for their review. Both Wederski and Rahe will be on hand to inter- view the new applicant. Other business In other business, the commissioners: • Learned that the Road and Bridge Department septic system work was completed. • Were updated on the shuttle service project grant application by JoEl- lyn Gilliland. • Approved the request for funds to help purchase a new heating stove for The Ol’ Depot from the Parks and Recreation Funds. • Received the monthly report from EMS Director Rick Schiff. Schiff said he had received the provider number required to teach classes and training would begin Nov. 5. Shiff also reported that the Rawlins County EMS patches, designed specifi- cally for the county, had been received. • Met in executive ses- sion for an hour with Schiff, Dr. Rod Dill and Steve Sutton, the executive director for the state EMS board. No action was taken following the session. • Noted they and County Attorney Jared Holste were meeting with the Thomas County Commis- sioners Nov. 5 in Thomas County to discuss combin- ing Rawlins and Thomas Counties extension dis- tricts. • Discussed pay rates for rural fire department vol- unteers. • Approved carpeting for the dispatch department area for acoustical reasons. • Authorized Commis- sion Chairman Charles Walker to sign the official copy of the interlocal agreement between the county and Good Samari- tan Society. The next meeting will be at 9 a.m., Nov. 19 at the commissioners’ meeting room at the courthouse. The commissioners will be canvassing votes at 9 a.m., Monday, Nov. 12, (while the courthouse will be closed for the observa- tion of Veterans Day). Those wanting to attend the open meeting may use the south door at the court- house to enter. EMS director resigns In a special commissioner meeting Tuesday, the Rawlins County Commissioners accepted with the re- gret the resignation of Rick Schiff, Rawlins County Emergency Medical Services director, and Daniel Martin, part-time Emergency Medical Technician. The commissioners appointed Linda Skipworth as the interim EMS director and reappointed Jim Schroeder as a county first responder. Commissioner Charlie Walker noted that the county ambulance service has continued to operate as normal. The commissioners are currently search- ing for another director. Skipworth said scheduled EMT training is pending at this time. Students to present comedy this weekend An 11-member cast of RCHS seniors, jun- iors and sophomores are preparing “The Brothers Grimm Spectacu- lathon,” a two-act comedy for this weekend. Performances will be at 7 p.m., Saturday Nov. 10 and 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11 in the high school auditorium. “The characters make up the story lines as they re-tell familiar fairy tales,” Robynn Wessel, their director said. The play’s settings vary as the fairy tales evolve so the audience gets caught up in a story. Cast members are Emily Fields, Shay Hadley, Brooke Paslay, Weston Paslay, Aubrey Dunker, Bob Reuther, Tina Zorn, Miren Bo- gatzky, Alison Chess- more, Beth Reuther, Michael Blodgett, Mat- tie Higley and Morgan Withington. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for stu- dents. They will be available at the door or from cast members.
