“Some people claim there’s a woman to blame...” -Jimmy Buffett

Hey Kids! This is a cassette tape. It’s what we used to listen to music on before MP3s and CDs, and after LPs (also called records) and 8-tracks. I owned this album and played it so much, I wore the tape inside the cassette out. It was this cassette that was the gateway to my current 35-year love of Jimmy Buffett. In 1985, just 12 years or so into his career, this was his original greatest hits album. It’s title, Songs You Know By Heart, was spot on, as I have had the lyrics memorized for many years. His biggest song, Margaritaville, is known around the world, and it’s the familiar refrain that calls out to me this weekend. “…Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame, but I know, (bum, bum, bum, bum, bum) it’s my own … fault.”

Every year on this First Sunday of Lent, we hear the Gospels about Jesus being tempted by the Devil while in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus didn’t blame the Evil One or anyone else. I can tell you, brothers and sisters, that the Devil is real. Evil is real. Nobody, neither the saints nor even Jesus himself, is immune. And neither are we. The struggle is real. We all deal with it. The truth is, we will face temptation daily, but we don’t face it or the Evil One alone. I don’t have to give in. I can resist. I can choose to not sin. Don’t blame. Just turn to Jesus. Remember that this Lent! We have Jesus. Face the temptation, whatever it may be, with confidence.

Well, we’re here. Lent has begun. We’re approximately 5 days in thus far. We’ve made it to… the First Sunday of Lent. Congratulations! So… how is it going? Are you having the Best Lent Ever? Not yet, you say? Not sure to how to start? Well, here’s just a few ways to help you get started:

Our Social Studies and Science curriculum for preschool is tied to our study of letters. When they were studying the letter "O", our preschool learned about the ocean. In fact, we celebrated Ocean Day where our preschoolers educated parents, staff, and primary students about all the amazing things they learned about the ocean. We learned about jellyfish, mantas, sharks, and other creatures that live in the ocean. We crafted boats from aluminum foil to see if they could float, practiced our cutting and coloring skills with fish and sharks, and explored the beach with a sand experience. We all had a great day learning about the ocean. Great things are happening at CPOP School! Mrs. Hoormann Principal

Lenten Videos on Monday Mornings On Monday morning March 2, we will begin our Lenten video series after the 8 am Mass. Our video is from Bishop Robert Barron’s Pivotal Players Series and highlights the life and impact of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Bishop Sheen had a gift for spreading the faith clearly and persuasively as he paved the path for today’s media evangelists. Bishop Barron takes us on a journey to Peoria, Illinois; Washington D.C.; New York and other locations that played a significant role in the formation and vocation of Fulton J. Sheen. Please join us in the Church lower level, for coffee, pastry, conversation and a very relevant and inspiring video. We should be on our way by 10 am.
