EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

God’s Work

We are so busy! Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God?

We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or

charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being “God’s work.” But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God’s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary.

We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is “God’s work?” “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent” (John 6:29).

INTRODUCING OUR NEW PARISH CALENDAR ON GOOGLE!

We are happy to announce that our parish calendar has a new home! As a non-profit organization we have gained access to extended calendar capabilities from Google Apps, which offer us higher accuracy and convenience.

SOME COOL FEATURES!

It is REAL time! Our existing calendar is actually a "copy" that gets updated periodically. With our Google calendar, as soon as an update is made, it is visible.

Different layout options: With just a click you can customize the view (Week, Month or Agenda) by clicking the desired option at the top right corner of the calendar box.

It prevents overbooking of meeting rooms (once a meeting room is assigned to an event, it becomes unavailable to be assigned to another event.

HOW TO ACCESS OUR PARISH CALENDAR:

From our website at www.ndcarmel.com- click on Parish Calendar.

From our ND App, press the Calendar button on the home screen. If you have not yet downloaded our app, go to your app store, search for Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church, and download to your mobile device.

If you have a Gmail email account, you may add our parish calendar as a ‘shared calendar’ to your personal calendar view: From your personal calendar view, under Other Calendars, search for [email protected]. The Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel calendar will now be displayed along with your personal calendar. You may click on that label at any time to view (or hide) our parish events.

Use the search box at the top of the calendar view (or the Find tool from your browser) to search for specific events, i.e. Centering Prayer, Adoration, Beyond Cornerstone, Faith Formation, Antioch, etc. Please keep in mind this search capability will key on words from the event title as it was initially recorded on the calendar.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Cristina Folan at [email protected] or 973-538-1358, ext. 105.

SAVE THE DATE… AND GET TO KNOW OUR PRIESTS!

Our new Pastor, Father Paddy, and Parochial Vicar, Father Mariusz, are looking forward to meeting and spending time with our ND family at our first parish picnic in over five years! On Sunday, September 20, starting at

1:30 PM, our priests will be there to greet us and enjoy the afternoon with everyone at Malapardis Park. The food will be plentiful and delicious, the kids will enjoy the games and activities, and it will be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones.

Let’s make this a welcoming Notre Dame event – as we do so well – for our two new shepherds.

GUATEMALA OUTREACH MISSION: DOUBLE BLESSINGS ON THEIR WAY!

Last year, out Guatemala Outreach ministry involved 25 disciples who built 4 homes in one week for four families in need in the small village of Santa Maria de Jesus in Guatemala, through the From Houses to Homes organizations (fromhousestohomes.org). With the support and prayers of our parish family and community friends, our blessings this year have literally doubled! We have two groups traveling to the same area who will build 8 homes in two weeks! The first group of disciples leaves Friday evening, August 7 and returns Saturday, August 15. The second group leaves Saturday, August 15 and returns the early morning of Sunday, August 23.

Please join us in prayer for our outreach disciples as they respond to the Lord's call to reach out in His name to those in need.

All-powerful and ever-living God, when Abraham left his own land and departed from his own people,

you kept him safe all through his journey. Protect our volunteers, who also are your servants:

walk by their side to help them; be their companion and their strength on the road

and their refuge in every adversity. Lead them, O Lord, so that they will reach their destination

in safety, and happily return to their homes. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Stay tuned for a follow up from the ministry in the early Fall, as they will be planning to share with our parish family their extraordinary journeys!

A PRAYER SHAWL: A TANGIBLE SIGN OF GOD'S LOVE

Do you know someone in need of strength while undergoing a medical procedure?

In need of comfort after a loss? In need of peace and patience during an illness?

Through a prayer shawl or a lap blanket, our Prayer Shawl ministry may offer that tangible sign of God's love, peace and comfort to your loved one. Each prayer shawl (or lap blanket) is made with prayer. The maker of the shawl prays before, during, and after they work on the shawl. Sometimes we know who we are making the shawl for, and sometimes we don't, but we pray for the person who receives it just the same. To request a prayer shawl, please contact Alice Muir at 973-451-1983 or via email at [email protected].

If you have time and talent to bring to our ministry, won't you join us? We meet the 2nd Saturday of every month at 1pm, downstairs in our Resource Room. If you have yarn to donate we would be grateful for your donation. Any questions? Call Alice Muir at 973-451-1983.

PLEASE NOTE! Our ministry will not gather for our monthly ministry meeting on Saturday, August 8. Our next gathering will be on Saturday, September 12. Bless you!

IN NEED OF PRAYER?

Our parish's Healing Prayer Ministry extends a caring and prayerful presence to those who feel they would benefit from having faith-filled, compassionate ministers pray over and with them.

Next Sunday (and every 2nd Sunday of the month), following the 10:30am Mass, Healing Ministry members will be available for 1 hour in the Upper Room off the Gathering Space. Stop by for prayer, or bring a friend in need of it.
