Letter From Father Yvans Jazon

My brothers and sisters, I trust you have started a very good spiritual Lenten journey with the Lord. As all of us are making efforts to walk closer with the Lord and to be as faithful as we can during this im-portant season in our catholic faith, I want to invite all of you who have not been coming every Friday, to come and be part of our parish Lenten reflection and a special devotion of Stations of the Cross. Lent is a time where we experience the Lord’s suffering on the cross as a sign of his love for us. By walking through the stations with us on Fridays, this is the way for our parish, together as Catholic Christians, to manifest our love for Christ! This season reminds us to experience Christ in prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. During the past two Fridays we have been reflecting on being Christ’s disciples and how to prepare ourselves to celebrate His resurrection. Then what awaits us is to prepare for an Easter of Joy! This readiness is both personal and as a community, as our mission is to help each other to keep putting oil in our lamps so we all together can be ready at the second coming of the Lord. God sees all the sacrifices that we make, like to serve the Lord through devotions and ministries, such as praying the Rosary, the Divine Mercy chaplet, Stations of the Cross, participating in Prayer Groups, spending time with Jesus at Holy Hours, giving our best in our parish or community ministries, and helping the poor. Yes, through our devotional lives we are stocking oil for our lamps, so we will not be surprised at the end of our life here on earth. Being people of real conviction helps us grow in faith. We are called to invest time in personal and communal prayer, which is truly the nourishment of our faith. Our devotions, like Friday’s stations of the cross, help us to focus on Christ and to maintain a good relationship with Him. The gospel this weekend tells us about Jesus’ prophecy that was fulfilled in His resurrection. That is why He did not say, “I will rebuild the temple, but He said: I will raise it up. From the death of Jesus flowed a fullness of life, which not only raised Him from the dead, but also lifted us out of sin by His grace. This life which flows from the cross comes upon us in the waters of baptism and gives us new life in Christ, so that we become His mystical body, the church. All that Jesus said about His body as the Temple applies to us now, since we have become part of Him. Therefore, we are called to keep His temple in good condition by the task that we are entrusted by Him. Whatever tasks for which we are entrusted involve our daily commitment to serve and invest time in prayer. The episode of today’s gospel proclaimed Jesus as the true temple. Let us ask our Lord Jesus Christ to purify us as He guides and strengthens us so we can faithfully fulfill our Lenten journey, growing closer to Him, and toward a blessed and happy Easter as members of His Body, the Church. Have a blessed Week and we hope to see you all on Friday, Rev. Yvans Jazon Parochial Vicar

Stewardship

Stewardship Truth “You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything…” Exodus 20:4

How many “gods” do true Stewards put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, Power, ego, time, comfort or health.

Parish Information

Sacraments Pre-Baptismal Classes: As the primary educators of their child, the parents/guardians and godparents have the most important influence on the faith development of children and parishes must provide catechesis for them before their child is baptized. Notre Dame de la Mer Parish offers six Baptism Preparation Classes throughout the year. It is important for the expectant parents/guardians to arrange to attend a session 5 months before the birth and Baptism of the child. Contact the parish offices for more information. The next class is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the parish office. Funerals: To be arranged with a priest and funeral director. Sacrament of the Sick: Anytime Marriage: Arrangements should be made one year in advance and prior to making reception plans.

Spanish Baptism Information Baptism: The Last Sunday of each month, at 7:00 PM at St. Ann Church. Pre-Jordan Classes: The Thursday prior to the celebration of Baptism at 7:00 PM in St. Ann Chapel. Bautismos en Espanol: Ultimo Domingo de cada mes a las 7:00 in Santa Ana. Clases Pre-Bautismales: El jueves anterior a la celebración del bautismo a las 7:00 pm en la iglesia de Santa Ana.

Parish Giving is a safe, secure, and easy way to make On-line parish and church related donations and payments. It is convenient and easy and offers you a variety of options. Please give it a try by going to our parish webpage www.notredamedelamer.org and clicking on the Parish Giving button.

Arts and Environment Committee The Arts and Environment Committee is looking for volunteers. All adults and teens are welcome. We, as a committee, are responsible for decorating, maintaining and un-decorating our Parish Churches. Most of the year there is very little to do, however 3 times a year the more help the better. We are quickly approaching one of those times, the Holy Triduum. It would be wonderful to have committee members in place before the Holiest of Seasons. To join or for more information please contact Jude Kelly, 609-972-9051 or [email protected]

Men’s Lenten Retreat

All men and young men of the parish are invited to participate in a retreat led by Fr. Yvans and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus on Monday, March 12, 2018, at 6:00 PM in Msgr. Kelly Hall.

Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday is the day on which Christ celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples, four days after His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Christ, during the last supper, reaffirmed a new commandment he gave His church. The Lord, “who came to serve and not to be served,” washes the feet of his disciples. During the Mass, we remember this charity and service by having our own foot washing ritual. We are in need of twelve disciples to get their feet washed. If you are willing to have your feet washed please contact Jonathan Delgado at the Parish Office (609) 522-2709 EXT 219.

Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is important that we pray for healthy interactions and cor-rect moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts. Our next holy hour will be Monday, March 19, 2018 ( the third Monday of the month), at 9:00 AM at Kelly Hall we will hold a Holy Hour of intercession before the Blessed Sacrament.
