1. Introduction

Sofia Offshore Wind Farm Limited (SOWFL) has contracted Fugro GM Marine Limited (Fugro)

to carry out a geophysical and geotechnical site investigation off the north-east coast of the

UK for the proposed Sofia Offshore Wind Farm (SOWF) site.

The Sofia Offshore Wind Farm (SOWF) site is located in the North Sea located on the Dogger

Bank, 165 km off the north-east coast of the UK in water depths between 21 m and 35 m

Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT).

The accompanying drawings (003576747-01 - Offshore Site Investigation – Survey Area) in

Appendix A indicates the areas within which the survey will be carried out. The coordinates

of the survey area, including buffers, are also provided below.

3. Offshore Geophysical Investigation – Export Cable

Corridor Nearshore

The nearshore geophysical operations at the SOWF site are expected to be carried out from

the Fugro Seeker from the 8th May for approximately eight weeks however this survey may be

carried out earlier than the date mentioned above. Also please note that the exact start and

finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

As the Fugro Seeker will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large

turning circles therefore it is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep

their distance, maintaining at least the 500 m exclusion including in the survey area

buffer (coordinates above), and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

Survey operations will be conducted on a 12 hour basis.

4. Offshore Geophysical Investigation – Export Cable

Corridor – Gradiometer Survey

The gradiometer operations at the SOWF site are expected to be carried out from the Fugro

Frontier from the 15th June for approximately two weeks. Also please note that the exact start

and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

As the Fugro Frontier will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large


their distance, maintaining at least the 2,000 m exclusion including in the survey area



5. Nearshore Seismic Refraction Investigation

The seismic refraction operations at the SOWF site are expected to be carried out from the

ribs Argosy and Hercules from 18th June for approximately four weeks, however this survey

may be carried out earlier than the date mentioned above. Also please note that the exact

start and finish dated will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work

progress.

As the Argosy and Hercules will be towing survey equipment it is requested that all

vessels operating within this area keep their distance, maintain at least the 500m

exclusion included in the survey area buffer (coordinates above), and pass at minimum

speed to reduce vessel wash.


6. Nearshore Geotechnical Investigation

The nearshore Geotechnical operations at the SOWF site are expected to be carried out from

the Jack-Up barge Haven Seariser 2 from 22nd June for approximately four weeks, however

this survey may be carried out earlier than the date mentioned above. Also please note that

the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and

work progress.

Due to the Haven Seariser 2 having limited manoeuvrability whilst onsite It is

requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance. The required

exclusion zone is 500 m which is included in the survey area buffer of 2,000 m

(coordinates above).

Survey operations will be conducted on a 12 hour basis and it is to be noted that their will be

a crew transfer vessel operating twice a day to and from the Jack-Up.

7. Offshore Geophysical Investigation – Array Area

The Fugro Venturer will be carrying out geophysical operations within the offshore turbine

array with works commenced at the start of April 2020.

Survey operations at the offshore Array are expected to continue through to July 2020. Vessel

engaged in geophysical survey operations will deploy survey equipment behind the stern of

the vessel and will require a large turning circle. Buffer zones are detailed in section 3.

As the Fugro Venturer will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large


their distance, maintaining at least the 2,000 m exclusion including in the survey area



8. Offshore Geotechnical Investigation – Array Area

Fugro Scout and the Fugro Synergy will be carrying out geotechnical operations within the

offshore turbine array with works commenced at end of April 2020.

and work progress. Vessels engaged in geotechnical survey operations. Buffer zones for the

Fugro Scout and Fugro Synergy are detailed in section 3.

Due to the Scout and Synergy having limited manoeuvrability whist working in DP

mode It is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance. The

required exclusion zone is 500 m which is included in the survey area buffer of 2,000 m

(coordinates above).

10. Survey Vessels

Export cable corridor Nearshore operations will be conducted by the survey vessels Fugro

Seeker and Haven Seariser 2. The Array area operations will be conducted by the survey

vessel Fugro Venturer, Fugro Scout, Fugro Synergy and Despina. The Export Route area

operations will be conducted by the survey vessel Fugro Frontier. The guard vessel will be the

Hartlepool based fishing vessel the Margaret Mary and will support nearshore survey
