IMPOSTOR/WARNING
BECKY A. SANDEFUR: Becky A. Sandefur applied for employment with a doctor’s office inSan Antonio, Texas, and worked as an Administrative Office Manager from April 5, 2001through April 19, 2001. Ms. Sandefur signed RN after her name on a cover-letter that shesubmitted to the doctor. Ms. Sandefur also included a resume on which she indicates that sheis an RN, MSN. Ms. Sandefur was terminated from employment after the doctor’s office wasunable to verify licensure and Ms. Sandefur admitted that she was not licensed.
JERRY GRANT MITCHELL: Jerry Grant Mitchell worked as a registered nurse in the positionof Clinical Case Manager and Advanced Practice Nurse, at a hospital in the Dallas, Texasarea, from November 8, 1999 to April 27, 2001. Mr. Mitchell did not hold a license to practicein the State of Texas and his license in the state of Tennessee had been revoked in 1995. Thehospital police referred the case to the district attorney’s office in Dallas County and they arepursing criminal charges.
STEPHANIE A. WATSON: Stephanie A. Watson was employed by a school district as anurses aide from September 2000 through May 2001. During her employment, sherepresented herself as a registered nurse and a Family Nurse Practitioner, and used theabbreviations RN and FNP after her name on letters to parents. Ms. Watson has never beenlicensed as a registered nurse in any jurisdiction. Ms. Watson is a student enrolled in a nursingprogram.

SHERRILL L. NEVINS a.k.a. SHERI LYNN COON: Sheri Lynn Coon applied for a positionas a registered nurse in the operating room at a hospital in Hereford, Texas on February 20,2001. Ms. Coon was instructed to appear on March 12, 2001 for license verification and salarynegotiation, however she did not show up. The facility had gotten an anonymous phone callfrom a male informing them that Ms. Coon was not a registered nurse. The facility contactedthe university listed in the employment application and verified that Ms. Coon did not have adegree in nursing. The facility tried verifying a license number provided by Ms. Coon and it didnot match, therefore she was not hired.
STEVEN MEYER: Steven Meyer applied for an LVN position at a hospital in Austin, Texasand was hired on February 19, 2001. Mr. Meyer was asked to bring his license in forverification and he presented a registered nurse license which had been tampered with. Thestaff member verifying the license called the LVN Board and was informed that the number onthe license was not one of their numbers. The license presented by Mr. Meyer read “Board ofNurse Examiners” at the top and the staff member verifying the license stated it was aregistered nurse license. Mr. Meyer was terminated on March 6, 2001, for presenting a falselicense. The case has been referred to the Travis County District Attorney’s office.
RONALD CHAIRES: Ronald Chaires worked as a clinical assistant in the ICU of a hospital inAustin, Texas, for three years. Mr. Chaires then told his supervisor that he would graduatewith an Associate Degree in Nursing from Austin Community College in December 2000 andwanted to work as a Graduate Nurse. Mr. Chaires applied and was hired as a Graduate Nursewith a start date of January 15, 2001. Mr. Chaires was required to bring a letter from theBoard of Nurse Examiners office verifying his graduate nurse permit. On March 2, 2001 Mr.Chaires was told to go to the Board office and bring a letter, he told them that he could not takethe licensure examination because the nursing school messed up on some of his credits. TheClinical Manager called the school and was told that Mr. Chaires was not graduating inDecember 2000. On March 8, 2001, the supervisor met with Mr. Chaires and he admitted tothe falsification, he was terminated from employment. The case was referred to the TravisCounty District Attorney’s office.

IMPOSTOR/WARNING
TAMMY RENE CARNES
Tammy Rene Carnes applied for a position as a Registered Nurse with an Ob/Gynphysician’s group in Houston, Texas on November 29, 2001. On December 3, 2001, thesupervisor contacted the Board office to verify that Ms. Carnes had initiated the reciprocityprocess. She was told that no application had been received. The supervisor alsocontacted the California Board to verify licensure and was informed that Ms. Carnes hasnever held a license to practice in California. Ms. Carnes was not offered a position andthe supervisor reported the information to the Board. The information regarding Ms.Carnes was referred to the Houston Police Department.
BRENDAL CHRISTENEE KRAMER a.k.a.: Brenda Christene Kramer
Brendal Christenee Kramer secured employment as a Scheduling Coordinator, with ahospital in Fort Worth, Texas on May 13, 2001. The position was an RN managementposition and required an RN license. Ms. Kramer told the facility that she was in theprocess of getting a Texas license and she claimed to have a current Tennessee license. The facility contacted the Board office after the supervisor became suspicious and beganto question Ms. Kramer’s credentials. The facility also contacted the Tennessee Boardand found that Ms. Kramer has never been licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee. Ms. Kramer was terminated from employment on October 5, 2001 and a report was sent tothe Board office. The information regarding the case was sent to the Fort Worth PoliceDepartment.

TAMERA BOYD
Tamera Boyd secured employment as a Registered Nurse in January 2001, with animaging and pain management center in Fort Worth, Texas. Ms. Boyd signed RN after hername and told her employer that she had received a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. Theemployer contacted the university and was not able to verify that Ms. Boyd graduated froma nursing program. The employer asked Ms. Boyd to bring in her license for verificationand Ms. Boyd failed to do so. The company contacted the Board office to verify licensureand they were informed that Ms. Boyd is not licensed in Texas. Ms. Boyd was terminatedfrom employment on March 5, 2001. The information regarding this case was referred tothe Fort Worth Police Department.
ROSE DIANE LEGG Rose Dianne Legg was hired as a certified nurses aide by a nursing home inFriendswood, Texas. Two months after being hired she told the Director of Nursing thatshe had finished her nursing program and was now a registered nurse. Ms. Legg startedsigning RN after her name on some of the patients’ medical records from October 2000through December 2000. During a survey visit it was discovered that Ms. Legg wasemployed and signing RN after her name, however did not have a license to practice in thestate of Texas. Ms. Legg had provided an RN license number belonging to someone else. The facility contacted the Board office and they were unable to verify licensure. The facility submitted a report to the Board.
CAROL J. GOFF
Carol J. Goff was employed as a Phlebotomist and Paternity Representative with alaboratory in Austin, Texas. Ms. Goff held herself out as a Registered Nurse to clients andpresented business cards with RN after her name. Her duties include drawing blood frominmates for paternity testing.

The information regarding Ms. Cannatella wasreferred to the Smith County District Attorney’s Office.

Margaret Robinsona.k.a.: Margaret Bethel
Margaret Robinson secured employment as a registered nurse with several physician groups andphysicians' offices during a period of time from January 1999 through February 2002. Ms. Robinsonalso applied for a position with a pediatric group and while they were checking the information onher resume they found that she was not licensed in Texas and has not graduated from a nursingprogram. The staff contacted the Board office and verified that Ms. Robinson was not licensed topractice professional nursing in the State of Texas. They contacted previous employers to verify thepositions held and found that she had worked as a registered nurse since 1999. The informationregarding Ms. Robinson was referred to the Collin County District Attorney’s office.
Rebecca A. Sandifura.k.a.: Becky Ann Sandefur
Rebecca A. Sandifur secured employment as a Billing Supervisor for a cardiovascular clinic in SanAntonio, Texas on May 15, 2002. On her employment application, she indicated that she graduatedfrom nursing school and had held past clinical and administrative positions in the capacity of aRegistered Nurse. In addition, Ms. Sandifur used “R.N.” after her name on the resume she providedto the clinic. The clinic decided to verify her credentials and learned that she had never been aRegistered Nurse in the State of Texas. She was terminated on May 22, 2002 for falsification ofinformation provided on her employment application. The information regarding the case was sentto the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
CORRECTION:
In the April 2002 issue of the RN Update, Cynthia Wallace, License Number 644258 waserroneously listed as having voluntarily surrendered her license to practice professional nursing inthe State of Texas. Ms. Wallace did not surrender her license, she is currently licensed and in goodstanding with the Board.
