Notice of Commencement
Belfountain Dam and HeadpondConservation Ontario Class Environmental Assessment - Notice of Intent
THE STUDYCredit Valley Conservation (CVC) has begun a study of the Belfountain dam and headpond, located within Belfountain Conservation Area in the Town of Caledon (see map). The dam does not currently meet all structural and safety standards. The study will be conducted at the same time as the ongoing Belfountain Complex Management Plan to determine the preferred management alternative for the dam and headpond in the context of the greater Belfountain Complex (Belfountain Conservation Area and the neighbouring Willoughby and Cox properties).
THE PROCESSThe study is being conducted in accordance with Conservation Ontario’s procedures outlined in the Class Environmental Assessment for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects (Class EA). The Class EA process includes public and agency consultation, characterization of the study area and evaluation of alternatives. It looks at potential environmental, social and economic effects of the preferred alternative and identifies measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.
CVC invites you to participate in the study. If you wish to provide comments, ask questions or receive information, please contact one of the project representatives identified below. Information on the project is available at www.creditvalleyca.ca. Additional consultation opportunities will be made available as the study progresses.

Thank you for your phone call regarding the Class EA for the Belfountain Dam and Headpond. I left a voicemail for you, but thought I would send you an email with a copy of our factsheet for the project. The environmental assessment will be focused on the existing dam within Belfountain Conservation Area as well as its headpond. The dam does not currently meet all of the provincial safety standards for dams. CVC recognizes that the dam and headpond is important to a variety of people for a variety of reasons (natural, cultural, social); the environmental assessment process will determine the best solution for the dam in the context of the conservation area.
