In the Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge, hunting of waterfowl, upland game birds and white-tailed deer is prohibited. The Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge was designated in 1963, primarily to protect Canada geese. In 1967, deer hunting was also prohibited within the Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge. Local breeding populations of both Canada geese and white-tailed deer have increased steadily since then and are now at healthy numbers. The area of the refuge, as set out in 1963, is no longer required in its entire extent to protect these species. The refuge boundaries have been adjusted to reflect current wildlife management considerations. The new boundaries of the Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge are identical to those of the Alf Hole Goose Sanctuary.

Hunting of waterfowl and upland game birds is prohibited within all Game Bird Refuges. In the Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge, hunting of waterfowl, upland game birds

and white-tailed deer is prohibited.

The Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge was designated in 1963, primarily to protect Canada geese. In 1967, deer hunting was also prohibited within the Whiteshell Game Bird Refuge.

Local breeding populations of both Canada geese and white-tailed deer have increased steadily since then and are now at healthy numbers. The area of the refuge, as set out in 1963, is no longer required in its entire extent to protect these species.
