brought us down to the conquest of Syria and Judea by the Romans. Rome had previously

conquered Macedon and Thrace. Egypt was now all that remained of the ‘whole kingdom’ of

Alexander, not brought into subjection to the Roman power, which power now set its face to

DANIEL 11:11, 12——MIDNIGHT

Fourth Syrian War (219–217 BC) Battle of Raphia; In the summer of June 22, 217 BC, Ptolemy

engaged and defeated the long-delayed Antiochus in the Battle of Raphia. Ptolemy’s victory

preserved his control over Coele-Syria, and the weak king declined to advance further into

Antiochus’ empire. The battle of Raphia was the deciding battle of the Fourth Syrian

War.—Unexpected victory for the notoriously cruel and immoral king of the south: Ptolemy 4th

Philapator. The whole region provides praise to Ptolemy, including the Jews who invite him to

Jerusalem. He accepts invitation and goes to Jerusalem—“heart shall be lifted up”: Daniel 5:23; 2 Chronicles 26:16–21—KoS attempts to offer incense; resisted by 81 priests, receives mark of

leprosy on forehead, cut off from the temple. “to his destruction”— After defeating the USA at

Midnight, Russia shall be lifted up. Ptolemy Philopator lifted up of his heart and entered the

temple. When Ptolemy was repulsed he initiated a persecution against the Jews in which “many

ten thousands” perished. Thus an event is brought to view in which Russia will pass laws, or

pursue a course of action that constitutes an affront to religious liberty. These laws will be

oppressive to Adventists (and possibly other denominations) and will lead them to seek the aid

of the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government, which will itself be consolidating its forces in

order to mount a revenge attack after its defeat in Daniel 11:11, will support the Adventist

church whose interests will be suffering under Russia’s oppression. This consolidation of

economic and military power is brought to view in Daniel 11:13. The number 13 represents the

rebellion by the Adventist church at Midnight and America’s rebellion from M—MC. The

confederacy with the U.S.A. and Adventism constitutes the image of the beast sign that must be

seen by the Priests prior to their being besieged at the Midnight Cry.

The Priests (Christ) at this time will be viewed as a treasonous element and become the target

of the U.S. government (Romans) on account of the fulfilment of their prediction that Russia, by

then a declared enemy of the state, would defeat the United States. This persecution will take

place in union with the Adventist conference structure (the Jews) and the foolish priests (Judas).

These foolish priests are being prepared to fulfill the role of Judas by the false latter rain

message that begins to bind them off before Midnight. An element of this false latter rain

message is a rejection of the truth that the king of the south in Daniel 11:5–16 is Russia. The U.S.

government, the Adventist organization and the foolish priests make up the three-fold enemy

that opposes God’s people at Midnight.

DANIEL 11:13, 15——THE MIDNIGHT CRY

Fifth Syrian War (202–195 BC)—The death of Ptolemy IV in 204 BC was followed by a bloody

conflict over the regency as his heir, Ptolemy V, was just a child. The conflict began with the

murder of the dead king’s wife and sister Arsinoë by the ministers Agothocles and Sosibius. The

fate of Sosibius is unclear, but Agothocles seems to have held the regency for some time until he

was lynched by the volatile Alexandrian mob. The regency was passed from one adviser to

another, and the kingdom was in a state of near anarchy. Seeking to take advantage of this

turmoil, Antiochus III staged a second invasion of Coele-Syria. He made an agreement with

Philip V of Macedon to conquer and share the Ptolemies’ non-Egyptian territories, although

this alliance did not last long. Antiochus quickly swept through the region. After a brief setback

at Gaza, he delivered a crushing blow to the Ptolemies at the Battle of Panium near the

head of the River Jordan which earned him the important port of Sidon. Battle of Panium 200

or 198BC—In 200 BC, Roman emissaries came to Philip and Antiochus demanding that they

refrain from invading Egypt. The Romans would suffer no disruption of the import of grain from

Egypt, key to supporting the massive population in Italy. As neither monarch had planned to

invade Egypt itself, they willingly complied to Rome’s demands. Antiochus completed the

subjugation of Coele-Syria in 198 BC and went on to raid Ptolemy’s remaining coastal

strongholds in Caria and Cilicia.

Unfortunately some of the more important battles of the Successors are rather poorly described,

one of these is the battle of Panion, a battle which we have a firm identification of locale, but a

rather weak historical narrative. We don’t even really know when the battle took place, it could

be in 200 BC or 198 BCE, such is the scant nature of the record. What we do know is that in the

hills and small plateau near the fountains of Pan at Banias (later Caesarea Philippi), located on

the northern border of modern Israel, there was a decisive battle that ended Ptolemaic rule in

Coele-Syria, the final major act in the hundred yearlong Syrian Wars.—

Panium related to the god Pan, who was a god of the wild. Panium was later to be renamed

Caesarea Phillipi, where Jesus said to the disciples ‘Upon this rock I shall build my church’ which

we could relate to church triumphant at the midnight cry. This story is found in The Desire of

Ages, Chapter 45, marking the Midnight Cry foreshadowing the Sunday law.

Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. Uriah Smith: Daniel and the Revelation on Daniel 11:2

“The angel, after stating that he stood, in the first year of Darius, to confirm and strengthen him, turns his attention to the future. Three kings shall yet stand up in Persia. To stand up means to reign; three kings were to reign in Persia, referring, doubtless, to the immediate successors of Cyrus. These were, (1) Cambyses, son of Cyrus; (2) Smerdis, an imposter; (3) Darius Hystaspes. {1897 UrS, DAR 247.3}

“The fourth shall be far richer than they all. The fourth king from Cyrus was Xerxes, more famous for his riches than his generalship, and conspicuous in history for the magnificent campaign he organized against Grecia, and his utter failure in that enterprise. He was to stir up all against the realm of Grecia. Never before had there been such a levy of men for warlike purposes; never has there been since. His army, according to Herodotus, who lived in that age, consisted of five million two hundred and eighty-three thousand two hundred and twenty men (5,283,220). {1897 UrS, DAR 248.1}

1. Darius/Cyrus a. Ezra 1:1-4; b. Isaiah 45:1-3

Cyrus II of Persia ... commonly known as Cyrus the Great and also called Cyrus the Elder by the Greeks, was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire. Under his rule, the empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East, expanded vastly and eventually conquered most of Southwest Asia and much of Central Asia and the Caucasus. From the Mediterranean Sea and Hellespont in the west to the Indus River in the east, Cyrus the Great created the largest empire the world had yet seen. Under his successors, the empire eventually stretched at its maximum extent from parts of the Balkans (Bulgaria-Paeonia and Thrace-Macedonia) and Eastern Europe proper in the west, to the Indus Valley in the east. The reign of Cyrus the Great lasted between 29 and 31 years. Cyrus built his empire by conquering first the Median Empire, then the Lydian Empire and eventually the Neo-Babylonian Empire. Either before or after Babylon, he led an expedition into central Asia, which resulted in major campaigns that were described as having brought "into subjection every nation without exception". Cyrus did not venture into Egypt, as he himself died in battle,

fighting the Massagetae along the Syr Darya in December 530 BC. He was succeeded by his son, Cambyses II, who managed to add to the empire by conquering Egypt, Nubia, and Cyrenaica during his short rule. The name Cyrus is ... named from Kuros, the Sun, ... interpreted as meaning "like the Sun" ... (also) suggested translation ... "to humiliate" and accordingly "Cyrus" means "humiliator of the enemy in verbal contest”.

2. Cambyses (II) a. Ezra 4:6

“During the reign of Cambyses the work on the temple progressed slowly. ... {PK

- Cambyses takes Egypt after the death of his father. - Out of jealousy he kills his brother to prevent him from taking the throne. - Dies because of an accident (or suicide) - He reigns for about 12 years. (sister White says about 7.5 years in PK 571)

3. False Smerdis a. Ezra 4:7

False Smerdis

“... during the reign of the false Smerdis (called Artaxerxes in Ezra 4:7) the Samaritans induced the unscrupulous impostor to issue a decree forbidding the Jews to rebuild their temple and city. {PK 572.2}

“The Samaritans tried to hinder this work. By their false reports they aroused

suspicion in minds easily stirred up to suspect; and because of this discouragement, the Jews became unbelieving and indifferent in regard to the work that the Lord had signified He would have done. They were opposed by Smerdis the usurper. "Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia." When Darius came to the throne, he set aside the work and prohibition of the usurper. But even then the people that should have been the most interested continued to be indifferent. They misapplied the prophecy given by Inspiration. They misinterpreted the Word of God, and declared that the time to build had not yet come, and that until the days were fully accomplished, they would not undertake the work. {4BC 1175.8}

- Cambyses looses its sanity - Cambyses kills his brother Smerdis out of jealousy. His death is kept secret for the people - While a long stay in Egypt of Cambyses, one of those that knows of the death of Smerdis stands up and is put on throne. - When returning from Egypt Cambyses dies in an accident - The false Smerdis continues to rule in Susan for a time and is supported by everyone except the Persians. - It is suspected that the king is not the real brother of Cambyses, but rather the Smerdis whose ears were cut off by Cyrus, for some reason - To confirm the suspicion, it is asked to one of those that have direct access to the king, if he has ears or not. - One night while the king is asleep, it is confirmed that the king indeed has no ears.

- Seven noble men come together and conspire against the king. Five of them deal with the guards, while Darius and another kill the false Smerdis and a campanion. - The seven meet again to discuss a suitable form of government, democracy, oligarchy or a monarchy (proposed by Darius). Then they decide to hold a contest whereby whichever of them got his horse to neigh first after sunrise shall become king. - Darius cheats and ascends the throne - False Smerdis reigns for seven months

“And now, many years later, the Lord was preparing the way for these thousands

who had lingered, to return. A chain of circumstances was rapidly leading to the confirmation of the decree of Cyrus and the issuance of a second decree by Darius Hystaspes. The Lord foresaw the troublous times that would soon follow in the reign of Xerxes--the Ahasuerus of the book of Esther. And so, in a time of special favor and opportunity, the message was given through Zechariah: --

"Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord. Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. {RH, December 26, 1907}

Wikipedia: Darius I ruled the empire at its peak when it included much of West Asia, the Caucasus, parts of the Balkans, most of the Black Sea coastal regions, parts of the North Caucasus, Central Asia, as far as the Indus Valley in the far east, and portions of north and northeast Africa including Egypt eastern Libya and coastal Sudan.

Darius organized the empire by dividing it into provinces and placing satraps to govern it. He organized a new uniform monetary system, along with making Aramaic the official language of the empire. He also put the empire in better standing by building roads and introducing standard weights and measures. Through these changes the empire was centralized and unified.

- Darius most likely ruled the empire for about 36 years;

5. Ahasuerus (Xerxes the Great) a. Esther 1:1-4

“Meanwhile conditions in the Medo-Persian realm were rapidly changing. Darius

Hystaspes, under whose reign the Jews had been shown marked favor, was succeeded by Xerxes the Great. It was during his reign that those of the Jews who had failed of heeding the message to flee were called upon to face a terrible crisis. Having refused to take advantage of the way of escape God had provided, now they were brought face to face with death. {PK 600.1}

“ Through Haman the Agagite, an unscrupulous man high in authority in Medo-Persia, Satan worked at this time to counterwork the purposes of God. Haman cherished bitter malice against Mordecai, a Jew. Mordecai had done Haman no harm, but had simply refused to show him worshipful reverence. Scorning to "lay hands on Mordecai alone," Haman plotted "to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai." Esther 3:6. {PK 600.2}

Xerxes is celebrated for his many building projects throughout his empire but is best known, in both ancient and modern sources, for the massive expedition he mounted against Greece in 480 BC which, according to Herodotus, assembled the largest and most well equipped fighting force ever put into the field up to that point. He was the son of Darius the Great (550-486 BC) who, in an effort to punish Athens for their support of the Ionian colonies' revolt against Persian rule, had invaded Greece in 492 BC. The Persians were defeated by the Greek forces at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC, and Darius died in 486 BC before he could mount another offensive. It therefore fell to his son to carry out his father’s wishes and, in amassing an army of such size and strength, Xerxes felt confident of his success in achieving what the great Darius had been unable to realize.

The Battle of Salamis, which followed, was a disaster for the Persian fleet and cost Xerxes dearly. Following the loss, he ... left the country with Mardonius remaining behind to continue the war effort. Mardonius was defeated the following year at the Battle of Plataea ... on 27 August 479 BC. Back home, Xerxes concentrated his efforts on making larger and grander monuments and completing greater building projects than his father. In doing so, he depleted the royal treasury to an even greater extent than his expedition to Greece already had. He maintained the roadways throughout the empire, especially the Royal Road by which messages were carried (the precursor to the Roman mail system and, later, the modern-day postal system) and devoted both time and funds to expanding sites such as Susa and Persepolis. Although Darius’ palace still stood, Xerxes’ commissioned an even more elaborate building project to raise his own opulent palace nearby and also commanded the construction of the Hall of a Hundred Columns and the building which has been designated `The Harem’ by archaeologists (because of the duplication of identical rooms in a row) which may have actually served as Xerxes’ treasury. The exhorbitant cost of these projects, coupled with the expense of the expedition to Greece, put a tremendous strain on Xerxes' subjects through heavy taxation. Xerxes, however, appeared not to notice a problem and continued to do as he pleased; because of this, his rule marks the beginning of the decline of the Achaemenid Empire.

THE LAST GENERATION Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 1 Cor. 10:11

“The work of God in the earth presents, from age to age, a striking similarity in

every great reformation or religious movement. The principles of God’s dealing with men are ever the same. The important movements of the present have their parallel in those of the past, and the experience of the church in former ages has lessons of great value for our own time. {GC 343.1}

Ezekiel 12; the effect of every vision

“As early as 1842 the direction given in this prophecy to “write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it,” had suggested to Charles Fitch the preparation of a prophetic chart to illustrate the visions of Daniel and the Revelation. The publication of this chart was regarded as a fulfillment of the command given by Habakkuk. No one, however, then noticed that an apparent delay in the accomplishment of the vision—a tarrying time—is presented in the same prophecy. After the disappointment, this scripture appeared very significant: [Habakkuk 2:2-4 quoted]

“A portion of Ezekiel’s prophecy also was a source of strength and comfort to believers: “The word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth? Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord God.... The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.... I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged.” “They of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; There shall none of My words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done.” Ezekiel 12:21-25, 27, 28. {GC 392.3}

The sealing time

“Those that overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil, will be the favored ones who shall receive the seal of the living God. Those whose hands are not clean, whose hearts are not pure, will not have the seal of the living God. Those who are planning sin and acting it will be passed by. Only those who, in their attitude before God, are filling the position of those who are repenting and confessing their sins in the great anti-typical

day of atonement, will be recognized and marked as worthy of God's protection. The names of those who are steadfastly looking and waiting and watching for the appearing of their Saviour--more earnestly and wishfully than they who wait for the morning--will be numbered with those who are sealed. Those who, while having all the light of truth flashing upon their souls, should have works corresponding to their avowed faith, but are allured by sin, setting up idols in their hearts, corrupting their souls before God, and polluting those who unite with them in sin, will have their names blotted out of the book of life, and be left in midnight darkness, having no oil in their vessels with their lamps. "Unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings."

“This sealing of the servants of God is the same that was shown to Ezekiel in vision. John also had been a witness of this most startling revelation. He saw the sea and the waves roaring, and men's hearts failing them for fear. He beheld the earth moved, and the mountains carried into the midst of the sea (which is literally taking place), the water thereof roaring and troubled, and the mountains shaking with the swelling thereof. He was shown plagues, pestilence, famine, and death performing their terrible mission. {TM 445}

Last generation And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the

political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of

the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle

them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes

As the tidings spread through the countries of Europe, of a land where every man might enjoy the fruit of his own labor and obey the convictions of his own conscience, thousands flocked to the shores of the New World. Colonies rapidly multiplied. "Massachusetts, by special law, offered free welcome and aid, at the public cost, to Christians of any nationality who might fly beyond the Atlantic 'to escape from wars or famine, or the oppression of their persecutors.' Thus the fugitive and the downtrodden were, by statute, made the guests of the commonwealth."--Martyn, vol. 5, p. 417. In twenty years from the first landing at Plymouth, as many thousand Pilgrims were settled in New England. {GC 296.1}

“And he had two horns like a lamb.” The lamblike horns indicate youth, innocence, and gentleness, fitly representing the character of the United States when presented to the prophet as “coming up” in 1798. Among the Christian exiles who first fled to America and sought an asylum from royal oppression and priestly intolerance were many who determined to establish a government upon the broad foundation of civil and religious liberty. Their views found place in the Declaration of Independence, which sets forth the great truth that “all men are created equal” and endowed with the inalienable right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” And the Constitution guarantees to the people the right of self-government, providing that representatives elected by the popular vote shall enact and administer the laws. Freedom of religious faith was also granted, every man being permitted to worship God according to the dictates of his conscience. Republicanism and Protestantism became the fundamental principles of the nation. These principles are the secret of its power and prosperity. The oppressed and downtrodden throughout Christendom have turned to this land with interest and hope. Millions have sought its shores, and the United States has risen to a place among the most powerful nations of the earth. {GC 441.1}

Great Physician

“While appearing to the children of men as a great physician who can heal all their maladies, he [satan] will bring disease and disaster, until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation. Even now he is at work. In accidents and calamities by sea and by land, in great conflagrations, in fierce tornadoes and terrific hailstorms, in tempests, floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and earthquakes, in every place and in a thousand forms, Satan is exercising his power. He sweeps away the ripening harvest, and famine and distress follow. He imparts to the air a deadly taint, and thousands perish by the pestilence. These visitations are to become more and more frequent and disastrous. Destruction will be upon both man and beast. “The earth mourneth and fadeth away,” “the haughty people ... do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.” Isaiah 24:4, 5. { GC 589.3}

ANGEL OF LIGTH “So it will be in the great final conflict of the controversy between righteousness and

sin. While new life and light and power are descending from on high upon the disciples of Christ, a new life is springing up from beneath, and energizing the agencies of Satan. Intensity is taking possession of every earthly element. With a subtlety gained through centuries of conflict, the prince of evil works under a disguise. He appears clothed as an angel of light, and multitudes are ‘giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.’ 1 Timothy 4:1.” The Desire of Ages, 257.

NOT ONLY “When Jesus was on earth, Satan led the people to reject the Son of God, and to

choose Barabbas, who in character represented Satan, the god of this world. The Lord Jesus Christ came to dispute the usurpation of Satan in the kingdoms of the world. The conflict is not yet ended; and as we draw near the close of time, the battle waxes more intense. As the second appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ draws near, satanic agencies are moved from beneath. Satan will not only appear as a human being, but he will personate Jesus Christ; and the world that has rejected the truth will receive him as the Lord of lords and King of kings.” Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, volume 5, 1105.

THE SUNDAY LAW—PERSONATING CHRIST “As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate

Christ. The church has long professed to look to the Savior’s advent as the consummation of her hopes. Now the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. In different parts of the earth, Satan will manifest himself among men as a majestic being of dazzling brightness, resembling the description of the Son of God given by John in the Revelation. OUT OF THE CITIES “Out of the cities; out of the cities!''--this is the message the Lord has been giving

me. The earthquakes will come; the floods will come; and we are not to establish ourselves in the wicked cities, where the enemy is served in every way, and where God is so often forgotten. The Lord desires that we shall have clear spiritual eyesight. We must be quick to discern the peril that would attend the establishment of institutions in these wicked cities. We must make wise plans to warn the cities, and at the same time live where we can shield our children and ourselves from the contaminating and demoralizing influences so prevalent in these places.--Life Sketches, pp. 409, 410. LABOR UNIONS “Through the working of trusts, and the results of labor unions and strikes the

conditions of life in the city are constantly becoming more and more difficult. Serious troubles are before us; and for many families removal from the cities will become a necessity.” {CL 6.3}

A brief famine of unknown extent occurred, perhaps caused by this financial crisis, but

Suetonius claims it resulted from Caligula's seizure of public carriages;[45]according to Seneca,

Banished by the decree of Claudius, which commanded all Jews to leave Rome, Aquila and Priscilla had come to Corinth, where they established a business as manufacturers of tents. Paul made inquiry concerning them, and learning that they feared God and were seeking to avoid the contaminating influences with which they were surrounded, “he abode with them, and wrought.... “After the ascension of Christ, the apostles went everywhere preaching the Word. They bore witness to Christ’s work as a teacher and healer. Dark ages.

The history of the dark ages is full of the edicts of emperors and princes, and of the decrees of popes, bishops, and councils, all directed to the one object of establishing the sacredness of Sunday. Miracles, prodigies, and judgments, were not wanting with which to confirm these edicts and decrees. Banishment, confiscation of goods, stripes, slavery, the loss of one hand, and then of the other, and the like, were the penalties by which Sunday observance was, by these edicts, forced upon the people. One of these miracles is thus given in Francis West’s “Historical and Practical Discourse on the Lord’s day.” He says:{Sermons on the Sabbath and the Law 151.2}

At what time the Sabbath became the subject of attention inAmerica, we cannot definitely say.

The intolerance of the first settlers of New England was unfavorable to the Sabbath. The poor

Christian who may have been banished to this country for its observance could find no

refuge among the Pilgrim Fathers. The laws of Rhode Island were more tolerant than those of

some other States, and observers of the Sabbath first made their appearance at Newport in

1671. The cause of the Sabbath has gradually gained ground in this country from that period;

but it has found much to oppose its progress, even in Rhode Island. It was in opposition to the

general practice of Christians, on which account an odium was put upon it, and those who have

kept the Sabbath have been reproached with Judaizing, and classed with Jews. Besides this, they

have ever been subjected to great inconvenience in their occupations, especially in cities and

CONSPIRACY, n. [L. See Conspire.] 1. A combination of men for an evil purpose; an agreement

between two or more persons, to commit some crime in concert; particularly, a combination to

commit treason, or excite sedition or insurrection against the government of a state; a

plot; as a conspiracy against the life of a king; a conspiracy against the government. More than

persons, falsely and maliciously to indict, or procure to be indicted, an innocent person of

Satan will arouse indignation against the minority who refuse to accept popular customs and

traditions. Men of position and reputation will join with the lawless and the vile to take

counsel against the people of God. Wealth, genius, education, will COMBINE to cover them

with contempt. Persecuting rulers, ministers, and church members will CONSPIRE against

them. With voice and pen, by boasts, threats, and ridicule, they will seek to overthrow their

faith. By false representations and angry appeals, men will STIR UP the passions of the

Sedition at Midnight

The Saviour contrasted His own manner of work with the methods of His accusers. For months

they had hunted Him, striving to entrap Him and bring Him before a secret tribunal, where they

might obtain by perjury what it was impossible to gain by fair means. Now they were carrying

out their purpose. The midnight seizure by a mob, the mockery and abuse before He was

condemned, or even accused, was their manner of work, not His. Their action was in violation of

the law. Their own rules declared that every man should be treated as innocent until proved

guilty. By their own rules the priests stood condemned. {DA 699.2}

There were two charges which the priests desired to maintain. If Jesus could be proved a

blasphemer, He would be condemned by the Jews. If convicted of sedition, it would secure His

condemnation by the Romans. The second charge Annas tried first to establish. He questioned

Jesus concerning His disciples and His doctrines, hoping the prisoner would say something that

would give him material upon which to work. He thought to draw out some statement to prove

that He was seeking to establish a secret society, with the purpose of setting up a new kingdom.

Then the priests could deliver Him to the Romans as a disturber of the peace and a creator of

insurrection. {DA 698.3}

Prediction Before Midnight

starvation. The monied men, because they have the power, control the market. They

purchase at low rates all they can obtain, and then sell at greatly increased prices. This means

starvation to the poorer classes, and will result in a civil war. There will be a time of trouble

such as never was since there was a nation. “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great

prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble such as

never was since there was a nation, even to that same time; and at that time thy people shall be

delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book.... Many shall be purified, and made

white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand, but

“Tarried there many days” – tarrying time commenced at 911.

“Girdle” – righteousness (Isa 11:5).

“Bound” – binding off.

Agabus gives a prediction about the priests being bound off in their righteous

characters. This comes in connection with the Jews (SDA) delivering them into the

hands of the civil authorities (persecution).

“At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The

centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at

the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their

interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of

the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole

world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France.” – {Education, pg.228.2}

Nero – Midnight Cry

Matthew 24:15-18

Nero burnt down the city of Rome.

From the viewpoint of human judgment, Paul's condemnation before such a judge was certain.

But the apostle felt that so long as he was loyal to God, he had nothing to fear. The One who in

the past had been his protector could shield him still from the malice of the Jews and from the

power of Caesar. {AA 486.2}

And God did shield His servant. At Paul's examination the charges against him were not

sustained, and, contrary to the general expectation, and with a regard for justice wholly at

variance with his character, Nero declared the prisoner guiltless. Paul's bonds were removed;

he was again a free man. {AA 486.3}

Had his trial been longer deferred, or had he from any cause been detained in Rome until the

following year, he would doubtless have perished in the persecution which then took place.

During Paul's imprisonment the converts to Christianity had become so numerous as to attract

the attention and arouse the enmity of the authorities. The anger of the emperor was especially

excited by the conversion of members of his own household, and he soon found a pretext to

make the Christians the objects of his merciless cruelty. {AA 487.1}

About this time a terrible fire occurred in Rome by which nearly one half of the city was

burned. Nero himself, it was rumored, had caused the flames to be kindled, but to avert

suspicion he made a pretense of great generosity by assisting the homeless and destitute. He

was, however, accused of the crime. The people were excited and enraged, and in order to clear

himself, and also to rid the city of a class whom he feared and hated, Nero turned the

accusation upon the Christians. His device succeeded, and thousands of the followers of

Christ--men, women, and children--were cruelly put to death. {AA 487.2}

The city was the empire’s sanctuary of strength (Dan 11:31).

The power of the empire was committed to the carrying on of the work before mentioned. “And

they shall pollute thesanctuary of strength,” orRome. If this applies to the barbarians, it was

literally fulfilled; forRomewas sacked by the Goths, and Vandals, and the imperial power of the

West ceased through the conquest ofRomeby Odoacer. Or if it refers to those rulers of the

empire who were working in behalf of the papacy against the pagan and all other opposing

religions, it would signify the removal of the seat of empire fromRometo Constantinople, which

contributed its measure of influence to the downfall ofRome. The passage would then be

parallel toDaniel 8:11andRevelation 13:2.{DAR 254.4}

America’s sanctuary of strength is the U.S. constitution. The constitution is “burnt”

when it is abrogated at the MC.

“And he had two horns like a lamb.” The lamblike horns indicate youth, innocence, and

gentleness, fitly representing the character of the United States when presented to the prophet

as “coming up” in 1798. Among the Christian exiles who first fled to America and sought an

asylum from royal oppression and priestly intolerance were many who determined to establish

a government upon the broad foundation of civil and religious liberty. Their views found place

in the Declaration of Independence, which sets forth the great truth that “all men are created

equal” and endowed with the inalienable right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

And the Constitution guarantees to the people the right of self-government, providing

that representatives elected by the popular vote shall enact and administer the laws.

Freedom of religious faith was also granted, every man being permitted to worship God

according to the dictates of his conscience. Republicanism and Protestantism became the

fundamental principles of the nation. These principles are thesecret of its powerand

prosperity. The oppressed and downtrodden throughout Christendom have turned to this land

with interest and hope. Millions have sought its shores, and the United States has risen to a

place among the most powerful nations of the earth.{GC 441.1}

o The burning of Rome paved the way for Nero to falsely accuse the

Christians and persecute them. The same will take place following the

abrogation of the U.S. constitution at the Midnight Cry.

o Priests persecuted at Midnight and Adventists persecuted at the

Midnight Cry (Matt 7:1-2, Isa 33:1).

himself and his kingdom by contemptible and debasing frivolity. Returning to Rome with great

In the midst of this revelry a voice of tumult in the streets was heard. A messenger dispatched

to learn the cause, returned with the appalling news that Galba, at the head of an army, was

marching rapidly upon Rome, that insurrection had already broken out in the city, and that the

streets were filled with an enraged mob, which, threatening death to the emperor and all his

The Year of the Four Emperors was a year in the history of the Roman Empire, AD 69, in

which four emperors ruled in succession: Galba, Otho, Vitellius, and Vespasian. The suicide of

emperor Nero, in 68, was followed by a brief period of civil war, the first Roman civil war

since Mark Antony's death in 30 BC. Between June of 68 and December of 69, Rome

witnessed the successive rise and fall of Galba, Otho, and Vitellius until the final accession of

Vespasian, first of the

Imperial Flavian dynasty, in July 69. The social, military and political upheavals of the period

had Empire-wide repercussions, which included the outbreak of the Batavian rebellion. -

Ezr 8:17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

Ezra saw no Levites among the people and sent 11 men to Iddo. The number 11 represents the disciples without Judas. This points to the binding off of the tares which begins before M. o Judas left the table at the footwashing before Christs seizure at Midnight. Feet represent a gospel message and Christ's washing their feet represent His clarifying the gospel message of Dan 11:40-45 through the increase of knowledge on verses 1-39. This is taking place now before Midnight. o In the language of Eze 8 - Judas separates on account of the strong delusion (weeping for Tammuz) that is located at PBM before the fourth abomination (which is located at Midnight). “Men of understanding” – they are wise virgins as it is the wise that “understand” (Dan 12:10). After tarrying in Ahava Ezra set apart 12 priests. At M the number of the priests is made up. The number 12 is also a symbol of organization.

It was at the ordination of the Twelve that the first step was taken in the organization of

the church that after Christ’s departure was to carry on His work on the earth. Of this ordination

the record says, “He goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they

came unto Him. And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send

them forth to preach.” Mark 3:13, 14. {AA 18.1}

Ezr 8:25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered: Ezr 8:26 I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents; Ezr 8:27 Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold. The blessing of God, however, did not make unnecessary the exercise of prudence and

forethought. As a special precaution in safeguarding the treasure, Ezra “separated twelve of the

chief of the priests”—men whose faithfulness and fidelity had been proved—“and weighed

unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God,

which the king, and his counselors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered.” These

men were solemnly charged to act as vigilant stewards over the treasure entrusted to their care.

“Ye are holy unto the Lord,” Ezra declared; “the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold

are a freewill offering unto the Lord God of your fathers. Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh

them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at

Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord.” Verses 24, 25, 28, 29. {PK 616.2}

The care exercised by Ezra in providing for the transportation and safety of the Lord’s treasure,

teaches a lesson worthy of thoughtful study. Only those whose trustworthiness had been

proved were chosen, and they were instructed plainly regarding the responsibility resting on

them. In the appointment of faithful officers to act as treasurers of the Lord’s goods, Ezra

recognized the necessity and value of order and organization in connection with the work

of God. {PK 617.1}

Priests begin temple service at Midnight - Church Triumphant. o There were 12 of them - the number of Priests is made up to replace those represented by Judas who fell away. o 12 is also a symbol of organization identifying the completion of the process of organization began at 911. The priests were men whose faithfulness had been proved - they have successfully navigated their testing process.

Rev 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. The work is soon to close. The members of the church militant who have proved faithful will

become the church triumphant. In reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step

of advance to our present standing, I can say, Praise God! As I see what God has wrought, I am

filled with astonishment and with confidence in Christ as leader. We have nothing to fear for the

future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and his teaching in our past history.

Ezr 8:30 So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God. After tarrying in Ahava the narrative points out that they departed for Jerusalem on the 12d1m.

During the few days that the Israelites tarried at the river, every provision was completed for the

long journey. “We departed,” Ezra writes, “on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto

Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the

enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.” Verse 31. About four months were occupied on

the journey, the multitude that accompanied Ezra, several thousand in all, including women and

children, necessitating slow progress. But all were preserved in safety. Their enemies were

restrained from harming them. Their journey was a prosperous one, and on the first day of the

fifth month, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes, they reached Jerusalem. {PK 617.2}

They arrived in Jerusalem four months later on the 1st day of the fifth month. o The number four is a symbol of M - MC. Lazarus raised on the fourth day (church triumphant); fourth abomination in Ezra 8.

THE PILGRIM FATHERS

GC - CHAPTER 16 “The English Reformers, while renouncing the doctrines of Romanism, had retained many of its

forms. Thus though the authority and the creed of Rome were rejected, not a few of her customs

and ceremonies were incorporated into the worship of the Church of England. It was claimed

that these things were not matters of conscience; that though they were not commanded in

Scripture, and hence were nonessential, yet not being forbidden, they were not intrinsically evil.

Their observance tended to narrow the gulf which separated the reformed churches from Rome,

and it was urged that they would promote the acceptance of the Protestant faith by Romanists.

To the conservative and compromising, these arguments seemed conclusive. But there was

another class that did not so judge. The fact that these customs “tended to bridge over the

chasm between Rome and the Reformation” (Martyn, volume 5, page 22), was in their view a

conclusive argument against retaining them. They looked upon them as badges of the slavery

from which they had been delivered and to which they had no disposition to return. They

reasoned that God has in His word established the regulations governing His worship, and that

men are not at liberty to add to these or to detract from them. The very beginning of the great

apostasy was in seeking to supplement the authority of God by that of the church. Rome began

by enjoining what God had not forbidden, and she ended by forbidding what He had explicitly

enjoined. {GC 289.2}

Many earnestly desired to return to the purity and simplicity which characterized the primitive

church. They regarded many of the established customs of the English Church as monuments

of idolatry, and they could not in conscience unite in her worship. But the church, being

supported by the civil authority, would permit no dissent from her forms. Attendance upon

her service was required by law, and unauthorized assemblies for religious worship were

prohibited, under penalty of imprisonment, exile, and death. {GC 290.1}

At the opening of the seventeenth century the monarch who had just ascended the throne of

England declared his determination to make the Puritans “conform, or ... harry them out of the

land, or else worse.”—George Bancroft, History of the United States of America, pt. 1, ch. 12, par.

6. Hunted, persecuted, and imprisoned, they could discern in the future no promise of better

days, and many yielded to the conviction that for such as would serve God according to the

dictates of their conscience, “England was ceasing forever to be a habitable place.”—J. G.

Palfrey, History of New England, ch. 3, par. 43. Some at last determined to seek refuge in Holland.

Difficulties, losses, and imprisonment were encountered. Their purposes were thwarted, and

they were betrayed into the hands of their enemies. But steadfast perseverance finally

conquered, and they found shelter on the friendly shores of the Dutch Republic. {GC 290.2}

In their flight they had left their houses, their goods, and their means of livelihood. They were

strangers in a strange land, among a people of different language and customs. They were

forced to resort to new and untried occupations to earn their bread. Middle-aged men, who had

spent their lives in tilling the soil, had now to learn mechanical trades. But they cheerfully

accepted the situation and lost no time in idleness or repining. Though often pinched with

poverty, they thanked God for the blessings which were still granted them and found their joy in

unmolested spiritual communion. “They knew they were pilgrims, and looked not much on

those things, but lifted up their eyes to heaven, their dearest country, and quieted their

In the midst of exile and hardship their love and faith waxed strong. They trusted the

Lord’s promises, and He did not fail them in time of need. His angels were by their side, to

encourage and support them. And when God’s hand seemed pointing them across the sea, to a

land where they might found for themselves a state, and leave to their children the precious

heritage of religious liberty, they went forward, without shrinking, in the path of providence.

God had permitted trials to come upon His people to prepare them for the accomplishment of

His gracious purpose toward them. The church had been brought low, that she might be

exalted. God was about to display His power in her behalf, to give to the world another

evidence that He will not forsake those who trust in Him. He had overruled events to cause the

wrath of Satan and the plots of evil men to advance His glory and to bring His people to a place

of security. Persecution and exile were opening the way to freedom. {GC 291.2}

When first constrained to separate from the English Church, the Puritans had joined themselves

together by a solemn covenant, as the Lord’s free people, “to walk together in all His ways

made known or to be made known to them.”—J. Brown, The Pilgrim Fathers, page 74. Here

was the true spirit of reform, the vital principle of Protestantism. It was with this purpose that

the Pilgrims departed from Holland to find a home in the New World. John Robinson, their

pastor, who was providentially prevented from accompanying them, in his farewell address

to the exiles said: {GC 291.3}

“Brethren, we are now erelong to part asunder, and the Lord knoweth whether I shall live ever

to see your faces more. But whether the Lord hath appointed it or not, I charge you before God

and His blessed angels to follow me no farther than I have followed Christ. If God should reveal

anything to you by any other instrument of His, be as ready to receive it as ever you were to

receive any truth of my ministry; for I am very confident the Lord hath more truth and light yet

to break forth out of His holy word.”—Martyn 5:70. {GC 291.4}

“For my part, I cannot sufficiently bewail the condition of the reformed churches, who are come

to a period in religion, and will go at present no farther than the instruments of their

reformation. The Lutherans cannot be drawn to go beyond what Luther saw; ... and the

Calvinists, you see, stick fast where they were left by that great man of God, who yet saw not all

things. This is a misery much to be lamented; for though they were burning and shining lights in

their time, yet they penetrated not into the whole counsel of God, but were they now living,

would be as willing to embrace further light as that which they first received.”—D. Neal, History

“Remember your church covenant, in which you have agreed to walk in all the ways of the

Lord, made or to be made known unto you. Remember your promise and covenant with God

and with one another, to receive whatever light and truth shall be made known to you from His

written word; but withal, take heed, I beseech you, what you receive for truth, and compare it

and weigh it with other scriptures of truth before you accept it; for it is not possible the

Christian world should come so lately out of such thick antichristian darkness, and that full

perfection of knowledge should break forth at once.”—Martyn, vol. 5, pp. 70, 71. {GC 292.2}

It was the desire for liberty of conscience that inspired the Pilgrims to brave the perils of the

long journey across the sea, to endure the hardships and dangers of the wilderness, and with

God’s blessing to lay, on the shores of America, the foundation of a mighty nation. Yet honest

and God-fearing as they were, the Pilgrims did not yet comprehend the great principle of

religious liberty. The freedom which they sacrificed so much to secure for themselves, they

were not equally ready to grant to others. “Very few, even of the foremost thinkers and

moralists of the seventeenth century, had any just conception of that grand principle, the

outgrowth of the New Testament, which acknowledges God as the sole judge of human faith.”—

Ibid. 5:297. The doctrine that God has committed to the church the right to control the

conscience, and to define and punish heresy, is one of the most deeply rooted of papal

errors. While the Reformers rejected the creed of Rome, they were not entirely free from her

spirit of intolerance. The dense darkness in which, through the long ages of her rule, popery had

enveloped all Christendom, had not even yet been wholly dissipated. Said one of the leading

ministers in the colony of Massachusetts Bay: “It was toleration that made the world

antichristian; and the church never took harm by the punishment of heretics.”—Ibid., vol. 5, p.

335. The regulation was adopted by the colonists that only church members should have a voice

in the civil government. A kind of state church was formed, all the people being required to

contribute to the support of the clergy, and the magistrates being authorized to suppress

heresy. Thus the secular power was in the hands of the church. It was not long before these

measures led to the inevitable result—persecution. {GC 292.3}

WIKIPEDIA – JOHN ROBINSON

John Robinson (1576 – 1625) was the pastor of the "Pilgrim Fathers" before they left on the

Mayflower. He became one of the early leaders of the English Separatists and is regarded (along

with Robert Browne) as one of the founders of the Congregational Church.

Dissent

Cambridge was a center of Puritanism. During his years there, Robinson gradually accepted its

principles. The leaders of this movement strongly criticized the English Church because they

believed its beliefs and rituals were too much like those of the Roman Catholic Church. The

reforms they advocated would “purify” the established church from within; for this reason they

became known as “Puritans”.

Some Puritans who despaired of getting the changes they favored in the established Church,

decided to leave to form Separatist churches.

Measures against dissent

The monarch, then as now, was the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Elizabeth I

followed a largely tolerant policy toward the Puritans and Separatists. When James I succeeded

her in 1603, however, he instituted a policy designed to enforce religious conformity. The

Puritans would, he warned, adhere or he would "harry them out of the land". It was the King's

belief that his throne depended on the Church hierarchy: "No Bishop, no King".

James I vigorously enforced The Act Against Puritans (1593), 35 Elizabeth, Cap. 1, making it

illegal for separatists to hold their own services. Anyone who did not attend the services of the

Church of England for forty days, and who attended private services

“contrary to the laws and statutes of the realm and being thereof lawfully convicted shall be

committed to prison, there to remain without bail mainprise until they shall confirm and yield

themselves to same church.”

Leaving the established church

Though vigorously persecuted, Separatist congregations had been active, especially in London,

for a number of years. Later that year, a group of Puritans at the village of Scrooby in northwest

Nottinghamshire formed a Separatist congregation that came to number about one hundred

members. In circa 1607 Robinson became associated with the Scrooby Separatists. The Scrooby

Congregation met at the home of William Brewster, Scrooby Manor. Brewster was the local

postmaster and bailiff, and he was instrumental in the formation of the group. He was an old

friend of Robinson as well as a Cambridge alumnus.

Richard Clyfton served as their minister, and John Robinson became the assistant pastor. Other

leaders included William Bradford, latter who gave them the name by which they are known in

history when Bradford described himself and Robinson's followers at Leiden as “pilgrims and

strangers upon the earth.”

Period in The Netherlands

The congregation initially settled at Amsterdam. The local congregation of Separatists, called

the "Ancient Church," soon became strife-ridden, and in February 1609 Robinson and about 100

followers petitioned the City of Leiden for permission to resettle there by 1 May 1609, the latter

date being the Dutch "moving day."

...Soon after the congregation resettled at Leiden, John Robinson became the Leiden Separatist's

sole pastor with William Brewster as ruling elder. Under the leadership of Robinson and

Brewster, the congregation grew steadily, and in time the congregation came to number several

hundred.

A minority travel to America

The years spent in Holland were a time of poverty and hardship for a great majority of the

Separatist congregation. The culture and language were difficult for the Separatists to learn, and

as the years passed it was observed that their children were becoming more Dutch than English.

The congregation came to believe that they faced eventual extinction if they remained at Leiden.

Moreover, a war was brewing between the Dutch and Spanish. If Spain overtook Holland, there

was a possibility that the Separatists would then lose their freedom.

Finally a decision was made to emigrate again, this time to America. The decision was finally

made in early 1619...

Only a minority of the Leiden congregation would sail to America. ... Only thirty-five members of

Robinson's congregation actually sailed on the Mayflower joined by sixty-six people from

Southampton and London who had little religious motivation for joining the Pilgrims. Before

Carver and his group left Leiden, a solemn service was held, at which Robinson chose Ezra

8:21 as his text:

At the sailing of the Speedwell from Delfshaven, part of Robinson's Farewell speech read:

"I Charge you before God and his blessed angels that you follow me no further than you have

seen me follow Christ. If God reveal anything to you by any other instrument of His, be as ready

to receive it as you were to receive any truth from my ministry, for I am verily persuaded the

Lord hath more truth and light yet to break forth from His holy word.

"The Lutherans cannot be drawn to go beyond what Luther saw. Whatever part of His will our

God has revealed to Calvin, they (Lutherans) will rather die than embrace it; and the Calvinists,

you see, stick fast where they were left by that great man of God, who yet saw not all things. This

The Mayflower reached the coast of what is now Massachusetts on 21 November 1620. For the

next several years, the Pilgrims awaited the arrival of Robinson and the rest of the congregation.

The departure for most of the rest of the congregation was delayed for several years. Robinson

became ill on 22 February 1625 but recovered enough to preach twice the next day, which was

Sunday. By the next Sunday, Reverend John Robinson was dead. He died on 1 March 1625 and

was interred on 4 March at the Pieterskerk.

LEIDEN The meaning of the city name Leiden is originally coming from an old Dutch word meaning

“water course” or “water stream”.

begin loading food and supplies for the voyage--much of which was purchased at Southampton.

The Pilgrims were mostly still living in the city of Leiden, in the Netherlands. They hired a ship

called the Speedwell to take them from Delfshaven, the Netherlands, to Southampton, England,

to meet up with the Mayflower. The two ships planned to sail together to Northern Virginia.

The Speedwell departed Delfthaven on July 22, and arrived at Southampton, where they found

the Mayflower waiting for them. The Speedwell had been leaking on her voyage from the

Netherlands to England, though, so they spent the next week patching her up.

On August 5, the two ships finally set sail for America. But the Speedwell began leaking again,

so they pulled into the town of Dartmouth for repairs, arriving there about August 12. The

Speedwell was patched up again, and the two ships again set sail for America about August 21.

After the two ships had sailed about 300 miles out to sea, the Speedwell again began to leak.

Frustrated with the enormous amount of time lost, and their inability to fix the Speedwell so that

it could be sea-worthy, they returned to Plymouth, England, and made the decision to leave the

Speedwell behind. The Mayflower would go to America alone. The cargo on the Speedwell was

transferred over to the Mayflower; some of the passengers were so tired and disappointed with

all the problems that they quit and went home. Others crammed themselves onto the already

very crowded Mayflower.

Finally, on September 6, the Mayflower departed from Plymouth, England, and headed for

America. By the time the Pilgrims had left England, they had already been living onboard the

ships for nearly a month and a half. The voyage itself across the Atlantic Ocean took 66 days,

from their departure on September 6, until Cape Cod was sighted on 9 November 1620. The

first half of the voyage went fairly smoothly, the only major problem was sea-sickness. But by

October, they began encountering a number of Atlantic storms that made the voyage

treacherous. Several times, the wind was so strong they had to just drift where the weather

took them, it was not safe to use the ship's sails. The Pilgrims intended to land in Northern

Virginia, which at the time included the region as far north as the Hudson River in the modern

State of New York. The Hudson River, in fact, was their originally intended destination. They

had received good reports on this region while in the Netherlands. All things considered, the

Mayflower was almost right on target, missing the Hudson River by just a few degrees.

As the Mayflower approached land, the crew spotted Cape Cod just as the sun rose on

November 9. The Pilgrims decided to head south, to the mouth of the Hudson River in New

York, where they intended to make their plantation. However, as the Mayflower headed south, it

encountered some very rough seas, and nearly shipwrecked. The Pilgrims then decided, rather

than risk another attempt to go south, they would just stay and explore Cape Cod. They turned

back north, rounded the tip, and anchored in what is now Provincetown Harbor. The Pilgrims

would spend the next month and a half exploring Cape Cod, trying to decide where they would

build their plantation. On December 25, 1620, they had finally decided upon Plymouth, and

ARRIVAL IN AMERICA Land was sighted on November 9, 1620. The passengers had endured miserable conditions for

about sixty-five days, and they were led by William Brewster in Psalm 100 as a prayer of

thanksgiving. It was confirmed that the area was Cape Cod, within the New England territory

QUOTES - PILGRIM FATHERS

“There is not a dearth of means among our people any more than there has been in the

past. There is certainly not a dearth of means among our people in California. But in spite of this,

the great field of New York is left untouched, while week after week, a large congregation meets

here in the Tabernacle. The people ought to feel that the rebuke of God rests upon them because

they are not working for him in places which know not the truth. If they had the spirit of the

pilgrim fathers, they would go forth to work for God in the waste places of the earth. The

pilgrim fathers started out in their poverty. Some died on their voyage over from England,

and others died when they reach America. But they accomplished what they had purposed. God

wants his people today to feel the same spirit of self-denial. He wants them to put [on] every

piece of the armor, and go forth to let the light of heaven shine into the hearts of those who are

“My dear brethren and sisters, do not spend in selfishness one dollar of the Lord’s

money. You have no money but his. All you have is the Lord’s. You have been bought with a

price, therefore you are bound to enter the service of your Redeemer. You must give an account

Lord can better impress His children in forest homes and in the wilderness, to do service for

Him, than in the bustle and confusion of city life. The Lord understood all about the settlement

of America, and He moved upon the oppressed Pilgrim Fathers to make that land their retreat

from religious persecution. In the wilderness in this strange land the exiles found want,

PARABLE OF THE SOWER

Matthew 13:1-23; Mark 4:1-20; Luke 8:1-15

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and

how then will ye know all parables? Mark 4:13

“And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all

parables?” In these words he explained that his illustrations were to awaken thought in

the minds of his hearers. If they desired a fuller explanation of his words they could ask it

of him, as the disciples had done, and receive it. { 2SP 235.2 }

“By the parable of the sower, Christ illustrates the things of the kingdom of heaven, and

the work of the great Husbandman for His people. Like a sower in the field, He came to

scatter the heavenly grain of truth. And His parable teaching itself was the seed with

which the most precious truths of His grace were sown. Because of its simplicity the parable

of the sower has not been valued as it should be. From the natural seed cast into the soil,

Christ desires to lead our minds to the gospel seed, the sowing of which results in bringing

man back to his loyalty to God. He who gave the parable of the tiny seed is the Sovereign of

heaven, and the same laws that govern earthly seed sowing govern the sowing of the seeds of

truth.” {COL 33.1}

Not according to their expectations

“Christ’s mission was not understood by the people of His time. The manner of His

coming was not in accordance with their expectations. . . . This expectation Christ

answered in the parable of the sower.

The men that are represented by the way side, stony ground, or thorns, are those that

have a wrong understanding about the coming of Christ, they don't recognize Christ at

9/11, as it is not in accordance with their expectations.

My proposition for the application for this parable on our line is as follows:

GROUP 1 – AT THE WAYSIDE: “The seed sown by the wayside represents the word of God as it falls upon the heart of

an inattentive hearer. Like the hard-beaten path, trodden down by the feet of men and

beasts, is the heart that becomes a highway for the world's traffic, its pleasures and sins.

Absorbed in selfish aims and sinful indulgences, the soul is "hardened through the

deceitfulness of sin." Hebrews 3:13. The spiritual faculties are paralyzed. Men hear the

word, but understand it not. They do not discern that it applies to themselves. They do

not realize their need or their danger. They do not perceive the love of Christ, and they pass

by the message of His grace as something that does not concern them.” {COL 44.2}

Mat 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in

parables?

Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the

mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Mat 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but

whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see

ye indeed, but perceive not.

Isa 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes;

lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart,

and convert, and be healed.

This first group represents the first group that reject the message at 9/11. They hear,

but understand not.

They represent the Laodicean SDA church member that doesn't understand the message

at 9/11. Representing the first step between 9/11 and MN.

Mat 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then

cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he

which received seed by the way side.

The SDA members reject the message and will be deceived by “the wicked ones”. Who

are those?

Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do

wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

The wicked are those that fail there three step testing process, (purified, made white and

tried);

At 9/11 there is a group failing there third step: the SDA-leadership;

The leadership taketh away the seed from the way-side believers as soon as they hear

the word and reject to believe it.

Mathew 23:13

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven

against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

GROUP 2 – STONY GROUND: Mat 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the

word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

“The comprehension of truth, the glad reception of the message, is represented in the

eating of the little book. The truth in regard to the time of the advent of our Lord was a

precious message to our souls.” {19MR 321.1}

The second group is those that eat the little book at 9/11; they receive it with gladness.

Mat 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or

persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

Rev 10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said

unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy

mouth sweet as honey.

Rev 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my

mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

But they leave the message because they are not willing the carry the bitter experience

connected to the message;

What is this bitter experience?

Eze 3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this

roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Eze 3:4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak

with my words unto them.

Eze 3:5 For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to

the house of Israel;

Eze 3:6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou

canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto

thee.

Eze 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me:

for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. ...

Eze 3:14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the

heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

After eating the little book the message comes to us to bring the message to the house of

Israel. This will bring the bitter experience;

The second group are those that leave the message because of the no-public evangelism

message that started to be preached since 2014. They left the message in the time period

of the Joel controversy.

Great shaking

“I was pointed to the providence of God among His people and was shown that every

trial made by the refining, purifying process upon professed Christians proves some to be

dross. The fine gold does not always appear. In every religious crisis some fall under

temptation. The shaking of God blows away multitudes like dry leaves. Prosperity

multiplies a mass of professors. Adversity purges them out of the church. As a class, their

spirits are not steadfast with God. They go out from us because they are not of us; for when

tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, many are offended.” Testimonies,

volume 4, 89.

GROUP 3 – AMONG THORNS: “The gospel seed often falls among thorns and noxious weeds; and if there is not a moral

transformation in the human heart, if old habits and practices and the former life of sin are

not left behind, if the attributes of Satan are not expelled from the soul, the wheat crop will

be choked. The thorns will come to be the crop, and will kill out the wheat. {COL 50.3}

“Grace can thrive only in the heart that is being constantly prepared for the precious

seeds of truth. The thorns of sin will grow in any soil; they need no cultivation; but grace

must be carefully cultivated. The briers and thorns are always ready to spring up, and the

work of purification must advance continually. If the heart is not kept under the control of

God, if the Holy Spirit does not work unceasingly to refine and ennoble the character, the old

habits will reveal themselves in the life. Men may profess to believe the gospel; but unless

they are sanctified by the gospel their profession is of no avail. If they do not gain the victory

over sin, then sin is gaining the victory over them. The thorns that have been cut off but not

uprooted grow apace, until the soul is overspread with them. {COL 50.4}

Christ specified the things that are dangerous to the soul. As recorded by Mark He

mentions the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things.

Luke specifies the cares, riches, and pleasures of this life. These are what choke the word,

the growing spiritual seed. The soul ceases to draw nourishment from Christ, and spirituality

dies out of the heart. {COL 51.1}

Judas

“At that time the disciples did not know that Judas was a thief, but they knew it

afterwards. Although he had been with Christ during His ministry, his covetousness was not

cured. He held it fast as a precious treasure, and it had become more and more confirmed.

Christ's lessons on unselfishness were unheeded. His love of money led him to idolize the

little treasure entrusted to his care to be employed for the benefit of the church and to

relieve the necessities of the poor. {20MR 146.3}

“The love that Mary expressed for Christ made apparent the selfishness of Judas. By

commending the action that Judas had so severely condemned, Christ rebuked Judas. This

should have brought him to his senses. He should have been led to investigate his motives,

and to confess that his judgment of Mary's action had been wrong. But his past experience

had not been one of repentance and confession. His narrow, selfish ideas had often been

rebuked by Christ in a general way. In his teachings Christ had presented the danger of

selfishness and avarice. But Judas had not benefited by the instruction given. He did not take

Christ's words into his heart, engraving them on his character." {RH, August 7, 1900 par. 11}

Judas' open opposition at the anointing

“Yet Judas made no open opposition, nor seemed to question the Saviour's lessons. He

made no outward murmur until the time of the feast in Simon's house. When Mary anointed

the Saviour's feet, Judas manifested his covetous disposition. At the reproof from Jesus his

very spirit seemed turned to gall. Wounded pride and desire for revenge broke down the

barriers, and the greed so long indulged held him in control. This will be the experience of

everyone who persists in tampering with sin. The elements of depravity that are not resisted

and overcome respond to Satan's temptation, and the soul is led captive at his will. {CC

287.4}

Lucifer's jealousy on Christ's position in heaven

“Lucifer was envious and jealous of Jesus Christ. Yet when all the angels bowed to Jesus

to acknowledge His supremacy and high authority and rightful rule, he bowed with them; but

his heart was filled with envy and hatred. . . . {LHU 18.4}

“Lucifer in heaven desired to be first in power and authority; he wanted to be God, to

have the rulership of heaven; and to this end he won many of the angels to his side.

“The King of the universe summoned the heavenly hosts before Him, that in their

presence He might set forth the true position of His Son and show the relation He sustained

to all created beings. The Son of God shared the Father's throne, and the glory of the eternal,

self-existent One encircled both. About the throne gathered the holy angels, a vast,

unnumbered throng--"ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands"

(Revelation 5:11.), the most exalted angels, as ministers and subjects, rejoicing in the light

that fell upon them from the presence of the Deity. Before the assembled inhabitants of

heaven the King declared that none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter

into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will.

The Son of God had wrought the Father's will in the creation of all the hosts of heaven; and

to Him, as well as to God, their homage and allegiance were due. Christ was still to exercise

divine power, in the creation of the earth and its inhabitants. But in all this He would not seek

power or exaltation for Himself contrary to God's plan, but would exalt the Father's glory and

execute His purposes of beneficence and love. {PP 36.2}

“Satan unblushingly made known his dissatisfaction that Christ should be preferred

before him. He stood up proudly and urged that he should be equal with God, and should be

taken into conference with the Father and understand His purposes.” {TA 43.1}

Psa 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

Psa 89:27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

Christ anointing means he is the Son of God, the King of Kings;

This is what Lucifer was jealous about;

It seems that group 3 is illustrated by the group that stumbles over the anointing and

falls away;

It describes the recent activities within our movement. People stumbling over the

organization of the movement and the anointing of the brethren.

Choke the word

“All that draws the affections from Christ is a detriment to the soul, and must be put

away that the soul temple may be cleansed from all defilement. Unless the soul is emptied of

its idols, you cannot comprehend the truth of God. Some of the precious seed may find a place

in the heart, but in order to have spiritual discernment to distinguish the thorns from the

pure grain, the soul must receive the word with meekness. When those who have but a

partial knowledge of the truth, are called upon to study some point that cuts across their

preconceived opinions, they are confused. Their preconceived opinions are as thorns that

choke the word of God, and when truth is sown, and it becomes necessary to root up the

thorns to give it place, they feel that everything is going from them, and they are in trouble.

There are many who have but an imperfect understanding of the character of God. They

think of him as stern and arbitrary, and when the fact is presented that God is love, it is a

difficult matter for these souls to lay aside their false conceptions of God. But if they do not

let the word of truth in, rooting out the thorns, the briers will start up afresh, and choke out

the good word of God; their religious experience will be dwarfed, for the evil of their hearts

will overtop the tender plant of truth, and shut away the spiritual atmosphere. {RH, June 21,

1892 par. 3}

GROUP 4 – IN GOOD SOIL: “The sower is not always to meet with disappointment. Of the seed that fell into good

ground the Saviour said, This “is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also

beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” “That on the

good ground are they, which, in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it,

and bring forth fruit with patience.” {COL 58.1}

“The “honest and good heart” of which the parable speaks, is not a heart without sin;

for the gospel is to be preached to the lost. Christ said, “I came not to call the righteous, but

sinners to repentance.” Mark 2:17. He has an honest heart who yields to the conviction of

the Holy Spirit. He confesses his guilt, and feels his need of the mercy and love of God. He

has a sincere desire to know the truth, that he may obey it. The good heart is a believing

heart, one that has faith in the word of God. Without faith it is impossible to receive the

word. “He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that

diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6. {COL 58.2}

“This “is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it.” ….

“The wise shall understand” (Daniel 12:10). This group is represented by the wise

virgins.

“And he brings forth fruit “with patience.” None who receive God's word are exempt

from difficulty and trial; but when affliction comes, the true Christian does not become

restless, distrustful, or despondent. Though we can not see the definite outcome of affairs,

or discern the purpose of God's providences, we are not to cast away our confidence.

Remembering the tender mercies of the Lord, we should cast our care upon Him, and with

patience wait for His salvation. COL 60.4

“Through conflict the spiritual life is strengthened. Trials well borne will develop

steadfastness of character and precious spiritual graces. The perfect fruit of faith, meekness,

and love often matures best amid storm clouds and darkness. COL 61.1

“The husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for

it, until he receive the early and latter rain.” James 5:7. So the Christian is to wait with

patience for the fruition in his life of the word of God. Often when we pray for the graces of

the Spirit, God works to answer our prayers by placing us in circumstances to develop these

fruits; but we do not understand His purpose, and wonder, and are dismayed. Yet none can

develop these graces except through the process of growth and fruit bearing. Our part is to

receive God's word and to hold it fast, yielding ourselves fully to its control, and its

purpose in us will be accomplished. COL 61.2

“If a man love Me,” Christ said, “he will keep My words; and My Father will love him, and

we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” John 14:23. The spell of a stronger, a

perfect mind will be over us; for we have a living connection with the source of all-enduring

strength. In our divine life we shall be brought into captivity to Jesus Christ. We shall no

longer live the common life of selfishness, but Christ will live in us. His character will be

reproduced in our nature. Thus shall we bring forth the fruits of the Holy Spirit—

“some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.” COL 61.3

CONCLUSION:

As we know that the parable of the wheat and the tares is being fulfilled between 911

and midnight, we are able to see that the parable of the sower shows three groups of

tares and one group of wheat. All of these groups are present at 9/11, as the seeds are

sown at 9/11. Nevertheless three tares are being demonstrated as they are confronted

with the temptations of the world.

Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,

or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

“Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the

church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members, that there are tares

amid the wheat. Jesus said: “The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good

seed in his field: but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and

went his way.... So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not

thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An

enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them

First and Second Calls:

Luk 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: Luk 14:17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all

The invitation to the supper is the “gospel feast” – salvation which is established at the

third step of the everlasting gospel.

There is a deep earnestness in the invitation, "Come; for all things are now ready." How could those

bidden make excuses of so trivial a character, and risk losing eternal life? And yet in every age of

the world men are fulfilling this parable in refusing the invitation to the gospel feast. One

urges as an excuse his temporal concerns; his property demands his attention. Another is hindered

by the claims of society. But none of these excuses count with God. The refusal decides the

eternal destiny of the soul; for the words of Christ are, "None of those men that were bidden

shall taste of my supper." {BEcho, October 28, 1895 par. 3}

The gospel is Christ, the bread that came down from Heaven. The descent of a divine being is marked at 911.

By the great supper, Christ represents the blessings offered through the gospel. The

provision is nothing less than Christ Himself. He is the bread that comes down from heaven;

and from Him the streams of salvation flow. The Lord's messengers had proclaimed to the Jews

the advent of the Saviour; they had pointed to Christ as "the Lamb of God, which taketh away the

sin of the world." John 1:29. In the feast He had provided, God offered to them the greatest gift that

Heaven can bestow--a gift that is beyond computation. The love of God had furnished the costly

banquet, and had provided inexhaustible resources. "If any man eat of this bread," Christ said, "he

shall live for ever." John 6:51. {COL 222.3}

Luke 14:16-17 identifies two calls.

"A certain man," He said, "made a great supper, and bade many." When the time of the feast arrived, the host sent his servant to the expected guests with a second message, "Come; for all things are now ready." But a strange indifference was shown. "All with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it; I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come." {COL 221.3}

According to COL 229.4 two messages are sent to the Jews (SDA) and their leaders.

The invitation to the feast was first given to the Jewish people, the people who had been called to stand as teachers and leaders among men, the people in whose hands were the prophetic scrolls foretelling Christ's advent, and to whom was committed the symbolic service foreshadowing His mission. Had priests and people heeded the call, they would have united with Christ's messengers in giving the gospel invitation to the world. The truth was sent to them that they might impart it. When they refused the call, it was sent to the poor, the maimed, the halt, and the blind. Publicans and sinners received the invitation. When the gospel call is sent to the Gentiles, there is the same plan of working. The message is first to be given "in the highways"--to men who have an active part in the world's work, to the teachers and leaders of the people. {COL 229.4}

The second call went out at “supper time” – which is the time of visitation (911 – SL).

If the leaders in Israel had received Christ, He would have honored them as His messengers to carry the gospel to the world. To them first was given the opportunity to become heralds of the kingdom and grace of God. But Israel knew not the time of her visitation. The jealousy and distrust of the Jewish leaders had ripened into open hatred, and the hearts of the people were turned away from Jesus. {DA 231.3} The Sanhedrin had rejected Christ's message and was bent upon His death; therefore Jesus departed from Jerusalem, from the priests, the temple, the religious leaders, the people who had been instructed in the law, and turned to another class to proclaim His message, and to gather out those who should carry the gospel to all nations. {DA 232.1} As the light and life of men was rejected by the ecclesiastical authorities in the days of Christ, so it has been rejected in every succeeding generation. Again and again the history of Christ's withdrawal from Judea has been repeated. When the Reformers preached the word of God, they had no thought of separating themselves from the established church; but the religious leaders would not tolerate the light, and those that bore it were forced to seek another class, who were longing for the truth. In our day few of the professed followers of the Reformers are actuated by their spirit. Few are listening for the voice of God, and ready to accept truth in whatever guise it may be presented. Often those who follow in the steps of the Reformers are forced to turn away from the churches they love, in order to declare the plain teaching of the word of God. And many times those who are seeking for light are by the same teaching obliged to leave the church of their fathers, that they may render obedience. {DA 232.2}

The “servant” with the call to the gospel feast at 911 represents the faithful priests. From 911-MC the messengers (the faithful priests) carry the message to the three

foolish priests and those who hear the message and fight against it (Matt 22:5-6).

Luk 14:18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

Luk 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

Luk 14:20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. None of the excuses were founded on a real necessity. The man who "must needs go and see" his piece of ground, had already purchased it. His haste to go and see it was due to the fact that his interest was absorbed in his purchase. The oxen, too, had been bought. The proving of them was only to satisfy the interest of the buyer. The third excuse had no more semblance of reason. The fact that the intended guest had married a wife need not have prevented his presence at the feast. His wife also would have been made welcome. But he had his own plans for enjoyment, and these seemed to him more desirable than the feast he had promised to attend. He had learned to find pleasure in other society than that of the host. He did not ask to be excused, made not even a pretense of courtesy in his refusal. The "I cannot" was only a veil for the truth--"I do not care to come." {COL 222.1} All the excuses betray a preoccupied mind. To these intended guests other interests had become all-absorbing. The invitation they had pledged themselves to accept was put aside, and the generous friend was insulted by their indifference. {COL 222.2}

That there are three marks the testing process from 911-MC. o The second went to prove five yoke of oxen. The number five symbolizes the five

foolish virgins. There are two oxen in a yoke thus making 10 from five yoke. The number marks testing and the parable of the ten virgins which is fulfilled from 911-MC.

o The Third married a wife. Marriage is marked at the MC (LT/IMG). o The third did not even seek to be excused marking that he was confirmed in his

decision. This is consistent with the third way-mark of the three-steps of the everlasting gospel.

Third Call:

Luk 14:21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

Four maladies are identified marking that those being gathered were in a scattered

condition. Zec 1:18 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. Zec 1:19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me,

These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. Zec 1:20 And the LORD shewed me four carpenters. Zec 1:21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which

have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

o The “seven times” is mentioned four times in Lev 26.

They are Laodiceans – “poor” and “blind.” These characteristics together show them to represent the levites – the honest in

Adventism who are yet to join the church triumphant. Fourth Call:

Luk 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. Luk 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel

them to come in, that my house may be filled.

“And yet there is room” – the priests and levites together make up the 144k which are only the first fruits (Rev 14:3-4).

The great harvest is represented by the “highways and hedges.” They are the 11th hour workers that are gathered out of the world to make up the number for the supper.

The servant who brought in the poor and the blind reported to his master, "It is done as thou

hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the

highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." Here

Christ pointed to the work of the gospel outside the pale of Judaism, in the highways and

byways of the world. {COL 226.1}

In obedience to this command, Paul and Barnabas declared to the Jews, "It was necessary that

the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you, and judge

yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord

commanded us, saying, I have set Thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that Thou shouldest be for

salvation unto the ends of the earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified

the word of the Lord; and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." Acts 13:46-48. {COL

226.2}

The Lord calls upon us to come to the banquet of truth, and then go out into the highways

and hedges, and compel souls to come in, by presenting the great and wonderful offering

that Christ has made to the world. We are to present the truth in the way that Christ told His

disciples to present it--in simplicity and love.--Letter 177, 1903. {Ev 143.3}

Luk 14:24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

See last sentence in BEcho, October 28, 1895 par. 3 quoted in connection with Luke

14:16-17.

Key Thoughts:

This parable is an illustration of how God is going to gather the different groups of saved

people in this generation.

It is also a warning for Adventism which is repeating the history of the Jewish nation in

slighting the opportunities offered them.

Emphasis is placed on the 911-MC time period by the location of the three making

excuses in this time period. This calls attention to the importance of watching for the

particular sins committed by these three which is allowing any other interest to

supersede the work of the third angel which is now to “engross the whole mind, the

whole attention.”

I then saw the third angel. Said my accompanying angel, "Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission.

He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal, or bind, the wheat for the

heavenly garner. These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention." {EW 118.1}

Had not God manifested His great love by providing the gospel feast at an expense that cannot be

computed, and then bidden His guests, the sin of refusal would not involve eternal consequences.

But those who frame these excuses will never realize the greatness and terribleness of the

consequences until they shall personally see the saints of God welcomed into the heaven of bliss,

and they themselves left outside. What would they not then give to be received into the mansions

“Them which are bidden” are identified with the same words in the parable of the

marriage supper in Luke 14:17. They represent Adventism.

The marriage is fulfilled at the Sunday Law.

o This can be seen in Millerite history where the Midnight Cry message was a call

to meet the bridegroom on Oct 22, 1844 which parallel’s the Sunday Law.

Mat 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

Mat 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

The great supper identifies those who “make light” of the invitation while this parable identifies a second class who persecute the servants who are the faithful priests.

Mat 22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and

destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

The two calls in this parable represent the two phases in the testing process of

Adventism (911-MC, MC-SL).

As Christ cleansed the temple twice during his public ministry, two calls are made to the

churches.

When Jesus began His public ministry, He cleansed the Temple from its sacrilegious profanation.

Among the last acts of His ministry was the second cleansing of the Temple. So in the last work

for the warning of the world, two distinct calls are made to the churches. The second angel's

message is, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the

wine of the wrath of her fornication" (Revelation 14:8). And in the loud cry of the third angel's

message a voice is heard from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers

of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God

hath remembered her iniquities" (Revelation 18:4, 5).--The Review and Herald, Dec. 6, 1892.

o There were two calls within the Millerite line, two angels messages, two temple

cleansings. So, there are two within our history.

The rejectors of the invitation are destroyed in the Day of the Lord which begins at the

Sunday Law – they receive the Mark of the Beast.

The king sent his messengers first to those who were called his chosen people. But these,

wholly intent on securing worldly gain, sent in their refusal, saying, "I pray thee, have me excused."

They did not have sufficient respect for the master of the feast to accept his invitation. They are

represented in the words, "Them that are turned back from the Lord; and those that have not

sought the Lord, nor inquired for him." Thinking their own wisdom sufficient, these have much to

say, as if they were oracles of wisdom. The Lord declares, "Hold thy peace at the presence of the

Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath

bid his guests. And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will punish

the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel. In the

same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses

with violence and deceit." {RH, May 8, 1900 par. 2}

The King sends His armies (the King of the North) to destroy them.

Isa 10:5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. Isa 10:6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath

will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Isa 10:7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

Mat 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Gathered both good and bad--This parable is emphasizing the preparation that needs to

be made to go into the marriage and be saved. Both good and bad are tested – not that

both good and bad enter the church triumphant at the Sunday Law.

In both parables the feast is provided with guests, but the second shows that there is a

preparation to be made by all who attend the feast. Those who neglect this preparation

are cast out. "The king came in to see the guests," and "saw there a man which had not on a

wedding garment; and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a

wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand

and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and

gnashing of teeth." {COL 308.1}

The call to the feast had been given by Christ's disciples. Our Lord had sent out the

twelve and afterward the seventy, proclaiming that the kingdom of God was at hand, and

calling upon men to repent and believe the gospel. But the call was not heeded. Those who are

bidden to the feast did not come. The servants were sent out later to say, "Behold, I have

prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come

unto the marriage." This was the message borne to the Jewish nation after the crucifixion

of Christ; but the nation that claimed to be God's peculiar people rejected the gospel brought to

them in the power of the Holy Spirit. Many did this in the most scornful manner. Others were so

exasperated by the offer of salvation, the offer of pardon for rejecting the Lord of glory, that they

turned upon the bearers of the message. There was "a great persecution." Acts 8:1. Many both of

men and women were thrust into prison, and some of the Lord's messengers, as Stephen and

James, were put to death. {COL 308.2}

Thus the Jewish people sealed their rejection of God's mercy. The result was foretold by

Christ in the parable. The king "sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and

burned up their city." The judgment pronounced came upon the Jews in the destruction of

Jerusalem and the scattering of the nation. {COL 308.3}

The third call to the feast represents the giving of the gospel to the Gentiles. The king

said, "The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into

the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage." {COL 309.1}

The king's servants who went out into the highways "gathered together all as many as they

found, both bad and good." It was a mixed company. Some of them had no more real regard for

the giver of the feast than had the ones who rejected the call. The class first bidden could not

afford, they thought, to sacrifice any worldly advantage for the sake of attending the king's

banquet. And of those who accepted the invitation, there were some who thought only of

benefiting themselves. They came to share the provisions of the feast, but had no desire to

honor the king. {COL 309.2}

When the king came in to view the guests, the real character of all was revealed. For

every guest at the feast there had been provided a wedding garment. This garment was a

gift from the king. By wearing it the guests showed their respect for the giver of the feast. But

one man was clothed in his common citizen dress. He had refused to make the preparation

required by the king. The garment provided for him at great cost he disdained to wear. Thus he

insulted his lord. To the king's demand, "How camest thou in hither not having a wedding

garment?" he could answer nothing. He was self-condemned. Then the king said, "Bind him

hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness." {COL 309.3}

By the king's examination of the guests at the feast is represented a work of judgment.

The guests at the gospel feast are those who profess to serve God, those whose names are

written in the book of life. But not all who profess to be Christians are true disciples. Before the

final reward is given, it must be decided who are fitted to share the inheritance of the righteous.

This decision must be made prior to the second coming of Christ in the clouds of heaven; for

when He comes, His reward is with Him, "to give every man according as his work shall be."

Revelation 22:12. Before His coming, then, the character of every man's work will have been

determined, and to every one of Christ's followers the reward will have been apportioned

according to his deeds. {COL 310.1}

It is while men are still dwelling upon the earth that the work of investigative judgment

takes place in the courts of heaven. The lives of all His professed followers pass in review

before God. All are examined according to the record of the books of heaven, and according to

his deeds the destiny of each is forever fixed. {COL 310.2}

When the king comes in to view the guests the character of all is “revealed.” The coming

of the king to view the guests is the investigative judgement which began on Oct 22,

1844. Oct 22, 1844 parallel’s the Sunday Law. Therefore the king comes in to view the

guests at the Sunday Law and it is then that judgement is passed on the two classes

amongst those gathered from the highways and byways.

By the wedding garment in the parable is represented the pure, spotless character which

Christ's true followers will possess. To the church it is given "that she should be arrayed in fine

linen, clean and white," "not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing." Revelation 19:8;

Ephesians 5:27. The fine linen, says the Scripture, "is the righteousness of saints." Revelation

19:8. It is the righteousness of Christ, His own unblemished character, that through faith is

imparted to all who receive Him as their personal Saviour. {COL 310.3}

TWO COVENANTS

“As the Bible presents two laws, one changeless and eternal, the other provisional and

temporary, so there are two covenants. The covenant of grace was first made with man in

Eden, when after the Fall, there was given a divine promise that the seed of the woman

should bruise the serpent’s head. To all men this covenant offered pardon, and the assisting

grace of God for future obedience through faith in Christ. It also promised them eternal life

on condition of fidelity to God’s law. Thus the patriarchs received the hope of salvation.

“This same covenant was renewed to Abraham in the promise, “In thy seed shall all the

nations of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 22:18. This promise pointed to Christ. …

“The Abrahamic covenant was ratified by the blood of Christ, and it is called the “second,” or

“new,” covenant, because the blood by which it was sealed was shed after the blood of the

first covenant.

“The covenant of grace is not a new truth, for it existed in the mind of God from all eternity.

This is why it is called the everlasting covenant.

“There is hope for us only as we come under the Abrahamic covenant, which is the

covenant of grace by faith in Christ Jesus. The gospel preached to Abraham, through which

he had hope, was the same gospel that is preached to us today.... Abraham looked unto Jesus,

who is also the author and the finisher of our faith. {FLB 77.6}

The New convenant = The covenant of grace = Eternal covenant = Abrahamic covenant

“Before the foundations of the earth were laid the covenant was made that all who were

obedient, all who should through the abundant grace provided become holy in character and

without blame before God by appropriating that grace, should be children of God. This

covenant, made from eternity, was given to Abraham nineteen hundred years before Christ

came. With what interest and what intensity did Christ in humanity study the human race to

see if they would avail themselves of the provision offered (Manuscript 9, 1896) {6BC

Though this covenant was made with Adam and renewed to Abraham, it could not be

ratified until the death of Christ. It had existed by the promise of God since the first

intimation of redemption had been given; it had been accepted by faith; yet when ratified by

Christ, it is called a new covenant. The law of God was the basis of this covenant, which was

simply an arrangement for bringing men again into harmony with the divine will, placing

As we look upon this bow, the seal and sign of God’s promise to man, that the tempest of His

wrath should no more desolate our world by the waters of a flood, we contemplate that other

than finite eyes are looking upon this glorious sight. Angels rejoice as they gaze upon this

precious token of God’s love to man. The world’s Redeemer looks upon it; for it was through

His instrumentality that this bow was made to appear in the heavens, as a token or covenant

of promise to man. God Himself looks upon the bow in the clouds, and remembers His

everlasting covenant between Himself and man. {1BC 1091.4}

been necessary for them to suffer a life of bondage in Egypt; they would have kept God’s law

Renting of the veil

“It was not the hand of the priest that rent from top to bottom the gorgeous veil that divided

the holy from the most holy place. It was the hand of God. When Christ cried out, “It is

finished,” the Holy Watcher that was an unseen guest at Belshazzar's feast pronounced the

Jewish nation to be a nation unchurched. The same hand that traced on the wall the

characters that recorded Belshazzar's doom and the end of the Babylonian kingdom,

rent the veil of the temple from top to bottom.—5BC 1109.” {TA 204.3}

“The next day the courts of the Temple were filled with worshipers. . . . But never had the

service been performed with such conflicting feelings. The trumpets and musical instruments

and the voices of the singers were as loud and clear as usual, but a sense of strangeness

pervaded everything. One after another inquired about the strange event that had taken

place. Hitherto the Most Holy Place had always been most sacredly guarded from intrusion. . .

. {CTr 281.2}

Only once a year was it entered, and then by the high priest. But now a curious horror was

seen on many countenances, for this apartment was open to all eyes. At the very moment

that Christ had expired, the heavy veil of tapestry, made of pure linen, and beautifully

wrought with scarlet and purple, had been rent from top to bottom. The place where

Jehovah had met with the priest, to communicate His glory, the place that had been God’s

sacred audience chamber, lay open to every eye—a place no longer recognized by the

Lord. {CTr 281.3}

Many who at that time united in the services of the Passover never again took part in them.

Light was to shine into their hearts. The disciples were to communicate to them the

knowledge that the great Teacher had come.” {CTr 281.4}

“The conviction forced upon many at the time of Christ's trial, at the time when the three

hours' darkness enshrouded the cross, without any natural cause for it, and when the last

sentences were uttered, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" "It is finished. Into

Thy hands I commend My spirit," was seed sown that ripened into harvest when at a future

date the gospel was boldly proclaimed by His disciples. The shaking earth, the piercing cry,

the sudden death which called forth in no whispered tones the cry, "It is finished," forced

from many the words, "Assuredly this Man was righteous"; "Truly this was the Son of God."

Many who had scoffed and jeered at and taunted the Son of God were terribly afraid that the

shaking earth, the rent and trembling rocks would put an end to their own lives. They

hastened away from the scene, beating upon their breasts, stumbling, falling, in awful terror

lest the earth should open and swallow them up. The veil of the Temple rent so

mysteriously, changed the religious ideas of many of the Jewish priests, and a large

company changed their faith. After the day of Pentecost, we read that "the word of God

increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great

company of the priests were obedient to the faith. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did

great wonders and miracles among the people" [Acts 6:7, 8]. {12MR 386.3}

The four anointings of David

2Sa 5:3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

Amo 9:11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: Amo 9:12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.

Amo 9:13 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.

Amo 9:14 And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

Amo 9:15 And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.

1Sa_8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they

say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not

reign over them.

1Sa_10:19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your

adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now

therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

1Sa_15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and

idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from

being king.

1Sa_15:26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the

word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

1Sa_16:1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have

the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

God will confirm the testimony of His servants “The testing time is right upon us. We must build upon the Rock that will stand the storm of test and trial. As we see the fulfillment of prophecy, we know that the end of all things is at hand. Present the eternal principles of truth. Show what the Word of God declares is to take place on this earth. The God who gave Daniel instruction regarding the closing scenes of this earth’s history will certainly confirm the testimony of His servants as at the appointed time they give the loud cry.” {21MR 436.6 }

HAGGAI – BUILDING THE TEMPLE

1Co_3:16

1Pe 2:5 -10

Hag 1:1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month,

came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,

governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

6 month, 180 days. The 180 days of Esther from 9/11 to MC.

The name Haggai means “feast day” or “sacrifice” pointing to 1 Peter 2:5. Haggai

represents the priests from 9/11 to the MC, illustrated in 1 Peter 2:5 by lively stones, a spiritual

house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices.

The name Zerubbabel means “from Babylon”, typifying the Levites that need to be called

into the church triumphant.

Hag 1:2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time

that the LORD'S house should be built.

Adventist in general think the Lord will perform his wonderful work at the Sunday law.

That the restoring of the temple will be at the SL, by calling in the 11th hour workers. Not

knowing, he has already start building his temple and they have neglected and rejected the call.

Hag 1:3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

Hag 1:4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?

Trusting in men, rather than the work of God. Trusting in error, rather than present

truth. Trusting in own righteousness, rather than Christ.

Hag 1:5 Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

Jeremiah 6:16

Hag 1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye

are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages

earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

The blessing of the Lord hasn't been upon you. Your work hasn't received the blessing.

The Lord has taken from you the early and latter rain.

The fourth generation of Adventism is placed in a spiritual famine.

Elijah's 3,5 years of drought: James 5:17; 1 Kings 17:7

But during the time of famine, there is food for Gods people: Psalm 37:18-19

Hag 1:12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest,

with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of

Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the

LORD.

- The Levites recognize the message of Haggai as being from God and start entering the Church

Triumphant

Hag 1:13 Then spake Haggai the LORD'S messenger in the LORD'S message unto the people,

saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.

Hag 1:14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of

Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the

remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

Hag 1:15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

Stirred up the spirit: Manifestation of the power of God

Hag 2:1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the

LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,

Chapter 2:1 = 21; and on the 21st day

We are at Midnight.

Hag 2:2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son

of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

Hag 2:3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now?

The church triumphant will in the eyes of man be as nothing compared with the SDA

conference church structure.

Hag 2:4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of

Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I

am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

Hag 2:5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my

spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

The latter rain will fall on the Levites as the early rain fell on the Millerites.

Hag 2:6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the

heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

Hag 2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this

house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

Hag 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

Hag 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of

hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

The Church Triumphant will be raised up at the MC;

Hag 2:10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came

the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

Hag 2:11 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

Hag 2:12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or

pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

Hag 2:13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be

unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

Hag 2:14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me,

saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

Hag 2:20 And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the

Hag 2:21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

Hag 2:22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the

kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the

horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

Hag 2:23 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son

of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the
