BATE MIDDLE SCHOOLGUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS

VOICE LEVELS·In this classroom & school, we are to use the following Voice Levels where appropriate.·LEVEL 0 – SILENCE·LEVEL 1 – WHISPER·LEVEL 2 – CONVERSATIONAL·LEVEL 3 – PRESENTATIONAL·LEVEL 4 – OUTSIDE VOICE (use sparingly)

EXPECTATIONS FOR ARRIVAL·Voice Level 2 (conversational) when entering the building.·Breakfast in Cafeteria (8:00 – 8:24)·Upon entering: go to Breakfast, Restroom, Locker, and then Advisory where you will stay until dismissed to 1st period.·Another teacher’s room or library only with approved pass/ note.

DISMISSAL EXPECTATIONS·Students will visit their lockers at the appropriate time as set forth by teams.·There will be NO LOCKER BREAKS during the day.·CAR RIDERS ·3:30 buses·WALKERS·Follow all hallway guidelines.·School rules apply until students arrive at home.

HALLWAY EXPECTATIONS·VOICE LEVEL 0 -1·Need Help? Go to the nearest adult in charge.·Stay on the right side of the hallway.·Walk with hands, feet, and body to yourself.·Keep moving to your next class. There should be no visiting in the hallways.·Respect personal space and belongings of others.·Pay attention to teachers or adult assistants when directions are given.·Take care of personal business while respecting personal space and items.

LOCKERS EXPECTATIONS·Your advisor will assign you a locker.·You will go to your locker (upon arrival and at the end of each day.)·Keep combination private.·No sharing lockers.·Keep lockers clean & neat so: 1. it will close properly 2. you can find your materials quickly 3. you will stay organized

Teacher/ Team Communication

·The teachers on each grade team will be meeting often to discuss various issues. Please know that academic and behavioral issues are discussed among your teachers. All of your teachers have high expectations of you and we will work together to help you succeed.

REWARDS·Each grade level will have a 10 minute break each day. Vending machines (located on the lower level floor) can be used during these times. Items range in price from $.25 - $1.00.·Your advisor will keep up with your demerits within the given week so that you will be able to enjoy the Fun Friday Break. Demerit/ Merit System information can be found on page 10 of your agenda.·It is MANDATORY that EVERYONE USES THEIR PLANNER/ AGENDA during EVERY CLASS EVERY DAY.

COMMON AREAS·Just like the classrooms, each common area has its own set of CHAMPS procedures and rules that should be followed. These areas include:

Hallways, library, computer labs, office areas, restrooms, and the cafeteria

CAFETERIA EXPECTATIONS·VOICE LEVEL 0 through the Quiet Zone.·VOICE LEVEL 2 (conversational)·Students will not break line.·Students will use appropriate language (please, thank you, excuse me)·Make healthy choices and do not waste food.·Use trays, utensils, drink containers, etc. appropriately.·Review Cafeteria Expectations on page 10 of your planner.

BULLDOG CAFÉ cont.·MOVEMENT:·Enter down ramp toward serving area.·Form two lines, regular menu & grill·Stay quiet (voice level 0) in line so you can speak only to cafeteria workers·Have # ready for cashier.·Go through line only once.·Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.·Sit at assigned tables and remain seated until dismissed.·Ask for permission to go to restroom.

BULLDOG CAFÉ cont.·Students should:·Gather trash on and under table.·Walk to conveyor area, dump garbage from tray and place tray on conveyor belt.·Remain in assigned seat until dismissed by the lunchroom monitor or other adult.·Food and drink must remain in the cafeteria.·Exit up the stairs on either side near serving area when directed by the lunchroom monitor (not when you see your teacher).

RESTROOM EXPECTATIONS·SINCE RESTROOM BREAKS ARE BUILT INTO THE SCHEDULES, STUDENTS SHOULD NOT LEAVE ANY CLASSROOMS TO GET A DRINK OR GO TO THE RESTROOM UNLESS IT IS AN EXTREME EMERGENCY. (THIS, as decided by individual teacher, WILL RESULT IN A DEMERIT.)·VOICE LEVEL (1) WHISPER·Only 4 people at a time may enter restroom.·Only one person at a time may enter a stall.·Completely fill out hall pass/ blue sheet and get teacher’s initials before leaving area. Return hall pass to room.·Follow assigned times during class change·Respect the privacy of others.·Keep hands, feet, and body to self.·Respect school property.

EMERGENCY DRILLS·WALK in an orderly manner to designated area keeping hands, feet, and objects to self, following hallway procedures. ·Follow ALL adult directions.·Stay in designated area until dismissed.·No leaving group.·Return to classroom in an orderly manner.·Use Voice Level “0” during Emergency Drills.

·If you are in the hallway or restroom when the fire alarm or other emergency announcement goes off, go directly to the front desk and an administrator will get you to your class.

ASSEMBLY EXPECTATIONS·Enter gymnasium or other designated area in a single file line with hands, feet, and objects to yourself.·Use steps on bleacher aisles to go up and down.·When entering, fill in all available space on aisles before sitting/creating a new row.·Sit in designated areas and remain seated until dismissed. We will be assigned rows in our designated area.·Remain during entire performance.·Show appreciation at appropriate times.·Exit bleachers by waiting for teacher to stand at the end of row and dismissing.·Exit bleachers by walking to aisle way and going down steps.·Stay seated until row is called exiting from lower to upper rows.·Exit area in a single file line unless otherwise directed by teacher.

BUS EXPECTATIONS·Walk through halls and keep on sidewalk of bus lane.·Students will exit building only through main floor bus door (by cafeteria).·Walk with hands, feet, and body to self.·Fill seats from back to front of bus or sit in assigned seat.·Stay seated, face forward, keeping feet out of aisle.·No movement while bus is moving or speaker is talking.

FIELD TRIP EXPECTATIONS·Enter buses and attractions in a line, one behind the other, following bus procedures.·Walk with hands, feet, and body to self.·Fill seats from back to front of bus.·Stay seated, face forward, and keep feet out of aisle.·No movement while bus is moving or speaker is talking.·Remain with group or buddy at all times.·Make sure an adult knows where you are at all times.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES·Walk to appropriate student areas immediately when directed over intercom.·Remain in designated seating area for duration of event.·Limit time at restroom area and in hallways.·Keep hands and feet to self.

COMPUTER LAB EXPECTATIONS·Students should enter room/ lab quietly and respectfully.·Remain at workstation until teacher dismissal.·Keep hands and feet within your workstation area.·Keep chairs directly in front of workstation area.·Work quietly and diligently.·Follow appropriate directions and all technology rules.

DANCE EXPECTATIONS·Students will report directly to dance location (gym or cafeteria).·Get permission from chaperones to use restroom.·Keep snacks and drinks in designated area.·Walk at all times including exiting and entering the building.·Students will wait in designated sidewalk area for pick up, until directed to enter loading areas by chaperone.
