NOTE TO INSTRUCTOR:NOTE TO INSTRUCTOR:This lab uses several chemicals that have the potential for harm (caustic potash and soda lime) or staining (iodine). As such, make sure students wear goggles, aprons, and gloves.
This lab calls for each lab group to have a hotplate, bell jar setup and individual plants. This is ideal but if not possible a class set of materials is fine. The instructor could have these materials and give each group small samples of corn leafs. 1”x1” corn leaf cuttings should be fine.
Description:Description:Student use the corn plants from the genetic biodiversity lab to analyze some of the components necessary for photosynthesis (light and carbon).
Goals:Goals:Explain carbon and nitrogen cycles.
Examine how interactions between a species and its environment define a species niche.
Objectives: Day 14Objectives: Day 14Test for the components necessary for photosynthesis to occur.
Today…Today…
Today you will be completing a lab. There are several different parts and you will be around chemicals that can be harmful and stain clothes/skin.
When told, move into your groups and listen for instructions.
Remember: Be cautious and attentive
Wear goggles, apron, and gloves at all times
Follow instructions and ask questions if you are unsure what to do.
