Every year schools are required to publish a ‘Standards and Quality’ Report on the previous session. This is a ’report card’ on the school for that school year. Our Standards and Quality Report for 2014-15 has just been published. Every family in the school will receive one by the end of term. If you have children at the school and have not received one by then, please contact the school office. A copy is also to be found on the school’s website. Parents of S3 will shortly receive a letter regarding the S3 Options process. Following feedback from the S3 Subject Survey and Draft Options' Forms, the final Options’ Form will be constructed. The cur- ricular rationale and columns look like being substantially the same as in previous years allowing for the same range of subject choice. How- ever once again this year it will not be possible to ‘customise’ individual choices beyond what is on the final form. Nevertheless with our S4 being offered 7 courses as com- pared with the national norm of 5 or 6, there is no doubt that the range on offer in Dunblane High remains impressive. With over 120 pupils participating by playing or singing in one of our choirs or ensembles in the Christ- mas Concert on MONDAY 7 DE- CEMBER AT 7PM), it is unlikely that there will be many tickets on public sale for this event. Each participating pupil has been allocat- ed 2 tickets (£5 each) and only if any tickets are returned will it be possible to release them for general sale. Entry will be by ticket only — there will be no payment at the door. Apologies if this has come as a disappointment to the wider community of the school but we feel that the families of the par- ticipating pupils should be given priority for the limited number of tickets available. Thanks to everyone who con- tributed to our annual Christ- mas Shoebox Appeal. This year was another great year for this worthy appeal. In the run up to Christmas this year our MAD Groups are continuing our school tradition of fundraising for the Stand Up To Cancer chari- ty. Refreshments at the Christmas Concert will be sold in aid of this charity and the annual walk to the Cathedral for the end of term Christmas Service (Tuesday 22 December) will be, once again, a ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ walk with pupils being encouraged to buy SU2C merchandise to wear with their school uniforms that day. The MAD Groups look forward to continuing support in the up and coming weeks when there will be an opportunity to pur- chase Stand Up to Cancer Mer- chandise. On the 26 th November the stu- dents and staff of Dunblane High School had the pleasure of supporting the annual ‘Dunblane Christmas Extrav- aganza’ further cementing the relationship between the school and Discover Dunblane. 35 students and 8 teachers took part playing roles as varied as traffic management and crowd control to Santa’s elves – not to mention butcher’s apprentices and reindeer herders. The stu- dents had a long evening but were rewarded with spectacular fireworks at the end and the warm congratulations of the community for their excellent effort. Special thanks must go to Miss Porter and the Photog- raphy Club who took pictures and have produced some spec- tacular images of this important community event. The EUROSCOLA competition for young people was launched by the European Parliament and is designed to enable young people from all over Europe to meet, dis-cuss their problems and experiences and get to know each other. For the second time in three years one of our students has been successful in

this competition: very many con-gratulations to Anna Steen, our Head Girl (S6) who has been se-lected as one of the 26 pupils to go to Strasburg next March. Mr Iain Smith President of the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club said the standard of applicant was of a very high order. So well done Anna!

Dunblane High School’s team of four pupils WON the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Top of the Bench’ com-petition last month. The competition was held in Forth Valley College and involved the team carrying out four reactions against the clock. Dunblane High beat off stiff competition to win the prestigious trophy. This success is testament to the hard work, ingenuity and teamwork displayed by Tara Ranson (S3), Katie Jackson (S4), David Clark (S3), and Rob Johnston (S2), they really did the Chemistry department and the school proud.

Congratulations to Cameron Reid-Thomas 3K2 and Rory Reid-Thomas 1K2 who recently took part in the Scottish National Judo Championships at Ravenscraig Sports Facility. They both competed very well and won Silver medals in their respective categories - Cameron U15 and Rory U13. They will be competing at the British Championships in Sheffield where they both move up categories to U18 and U15, so it will be a tough competi-tion. Good luck!

The school competed in the SSSA indoor SBX championships at Brae-head on 27 November. 25 other schools took part. We were represented by Sophie Paterson (S2), Jamie Paterson, Logan Dow and Ruaridh Withington (all S5) and Alison Todd (S6). Alison was 7th out of 38 and Sophie was 32nd Jamie was 37th out of 74 and Logan and Ruaridh 47th and 48th respectively. Well done to all!

Congratulations to the our pupils who participated in the Scottish Secondary Schools Individual Fencing competition and achieved the following results:

After the phenomenal achievements of our junior badmin-ton players last month we have had more success with the U16 players in the Stirling Schools Competition. Dunblane High won the overall team competition and achieved the following outstand-ing results:

Boys singles Gold - Sammy McKinney 3rd/4th - James Dougan

Girls Singles Silver - Millie Sheridan 3rd/4th - Hannah Richards

Boys Doubles Gold - Sammy McKinney & David Nairn 3rd/4th - Rory Reid-Kay & James Dougan

Mixed Doubles Gold - Hannah Richards & Sammy McKinney Silver - Millie Sheridan & David Nairn

All of the players above go forward to compete in the central schools competition.

Congratulations to Cerys Gilbride of S2 who is a member of Central Girls’ under 15 Football squad. On Sunday 14th November they defeat-ed rivals Glasgow City 5-0 to lift the Scottish Cup for their age level and complete a remarkable treble of league, cup and league cup. They man-

During severe weather DHS’s SNOW RULES apply—this means no one should leave the school building at interval and only those going home for lunch should do so during the lunch break. When exiting the school in snow pupils should be mindful of their own and other’s safety and refrain from throwing snow especially near cars.

To the whole community of Dunblane High School Following a very successful 2015, I would like to thank

our parents, staff and particularly our young people

for their hard work, support and encouragement. Francis P Lennon
