Symptom

The consistency check of the background processing database tables (TBTCO, TBTCP, TBTCS, BTCEVTJOB, TBTC_SPOOLID, TBTCCNTXT) completely locks the table TBTCO during its entire runtime so that no jobs can be created or processed. This makes it difficult to use a consistency check in a production system.

Reason and Prerequisites

This is due to a design error.

Solution

This note provides the following improvements:

1. The table TBTCO is no longer locked completely. Instead, it only examines jobs that have not been changed for at least one hour. Inconsistent table entries are locked individually before any changes or deletions are made to them.

2. If you set the 'Restore Release' option, you can create entries that may be missing in the scheduler tables TBTCS and BTCEVTJOB so that the relevant jobs can be started.

3. When you call the module JOB_OPEN, an entry is already created in TBTCP with a dummy step. If no successful call of JOB_SUBMIT or SUBMIT VIA JOB occurs and the calling application does not delete this job, the entries TBTCO and TBTCP remain. The consistency check now recognizes such jobs and deletes them.

Unfortunately we cannot provide correction instructions for the entire scope of this SAP Note. The following problems can be solved if you implement the correction instructions:
