Tittle), who would throw the ball into the end zone high and the receiver (R. C. Owens) would leap up and catch it. The play was named after V. T. Hamlin’s comic strip's character Alley Oop; Owens himself was also known as "Alley Oop." (Anon. 2019) An alley-oop in basketball is an offensive play in which one player throws the ball to a teammate near the basket, who jumps, catches the ball in midair and immediately scores a basket, usually with a slam dunk. This piece could be referring to either of these plays in sports. Note the spelling of the first word in the title. This is the French word for "go" and in "go ahead, do it." Here "Allez Oop" just seems to be a nonsense expression. The chorus sort of makes it clear –

Actually, this is a French expression, meaning “Here we go,” that was used by tumblers or acrobats. On more than one occasion my French dentist used this expression when she had finished drilling and wanted to move on to the filling operation. V. T. Hamlin the creator of Alley Oop said in a 1960 interview that he wasn't sure but he might have picked this name from his memory of this French expression. The Rubettes were an English pop band put together of studio session musicians. Notes: This "Batman" soundtrack album was a compliment and counterpart to the Danny Elfman score for the film (see under Film Music – Action – “Batman”). The audio-video sample makes it clear that this bat dance is all about people dressed up in bat costumes and choreographed doing various figures. The official music video has men dressed in Batman costumes with bat wing cloaks. The piece starts with stormy weather and laughter then a steady house beat with a simple keyboard theme and the choral repeating “Batman,” all very reminiscent of the Neal Hefti theme for the 1966 television series. Other voices come in with “I like Batman” and also whispering voices “Stop the press, who is there?” It all ends with continuous laughter. No attempt will be made here to list all the different releases of the “Batman (Motion Picture Soundtrack)” album. However, listening to samples of the all four tracks (Tks 2, 3, 5, & 6) reveals a certain similarity among all four, but only slight resemblance to Prince’s “Batdance.” Perhaps D.J. Knight is mixing other music from Prince’s 1989 soundtrack album, “Batman.” The cover illustration for this maxi-single CD and the subtitle of track 6 (Gotham Mix) certainly suggests the Batman film. The real identity of D.J. Knight is not known. There were several DJs (disc jockeys) called Knight: DJ Knight from Atlanta, Mark Knight, Silver Knight, and so on. The title was taken directly from the old expression that implies terrific speed. The "Bat Out of Hell" album “has spawned two additional Meat Loaf sequel albums: Bat Out of Hell II: Back to Hell [which did not included this piece] and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose. (Anon. 2018) The latter album, released in 2006, included the number, “Blind as a Bat.” However, this piece, with lyrics written by Desmond Child and James Michael, had the chorus –

Your love is blind, blind as a bat The way that you're leading me home like that Your love is blind, blind as bat

First of all, the old expression “blind as a bat,” is totally erroneous, bats are not blind. As used here the expression clearly disqualifies this piece also as a valid bat-inspired music because the meaning of the verse here is all about love being blind and has nothing to do with bats. The 47-page book is densely illustrated with convoluted, imaginative illustrations by Patrick Woodroffe and this is the most imaginative music title on the whole album, but the inclusion of bats in this title is a bit misleading. Nothing in the text of the book and none of the illustrations relate to bats, outside of the illustrations on page 8 of three humanoid creatures with hybrid bat-butterfly wings. The synthesizer music here has tunes that sound as if they were played on a child’s toy piano backed with lots of syncopated rhythmic twirls and twists back and forth, which give no suggestion of the erratic flight of bats. All ends with a chirping of bird’s sound.
