1. Can We Love? Tom Booth © 2007 Spirit & Song

Can we love? Can we lay down our lives? Can we wear His crown of thorns?

Can we drink the cup that He drinks? We must lay down our lives!

Itʹs more than raising our hands, itʹs more than singing this song. Itʹs saying ʺyesʺ to the Giver of life, it’s righting the ways that are wrong!

Loving the Lord our God with all our heart, mind and soul,

Loving our neighbor as ourselves, the kingdom of love we will know!

3. Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) Words and music by John Newton, 1725-1807 John P. Rees and Edwin Othello Excell.

Arrangement and chorus by Chris Tomlin & Louie Giglio

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear, and Grace my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear, the hour I first believed.

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free; my God, my Savior has ransomed me!

And like a flood, His mercy reigns, unending love, Amazing Grace.

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine; but God who called me here below, will be forever mine,

will be forever mine, You are forever mine.

4. Mighty to Save Reuben Morgan & Ben Fielding © 2006 Hillsong Publishing

Everyone needs compassion, love that’s never failing. Let mercy fall on me. Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior, the hope of nations.

Savior: He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save; He is mighty to save!

Forever, Author of salvation: He rose and conquered the grave; Jesus conquered the grave!

So take me as You find me, all my fears and failures. Fill my life again. I give my life to follow everything I believe in. Now I surrender.

(Bridge): Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We’re singing for the glory of the risen King. Jesus!

5. Just Like You Matt Maher © 2001 Spirit & Song

Revive my heart; renew my soul. In You, oh Lord, I am made whole. No more in fear will I wander ’cause You’re my God, my Lord and Lover. Like a burning fire be my one desire.

I want to be holy just like You. I want to go where You lead me to.

With reckless abandon to Your truth, I want to fall deeper in love with You.

Oh lift me up, God my Father. In all this world there is no other. I’m dancing in Your Holy presence, Your glory fills all my senses. Like a burning fire be my one desire.

Pas t o ra l Le t t e r Often times I find it easy to pray for those who are near and dear to me, those sick, who are asking for prayers, and those I know are going through a difficult time. When it comes to those who hurt me, it takes extra effort to intentionally pray for them. That is until recently at an Edge night about a month ago. Our theme for the night was “Pray for our Enemies,” and God was really speaking in many ways that opened my heart to a new perspective.

As children of Our Lord, we are all brothers and sisters through Christ. It is not my personal choice to pick only the siblings that treat me with respect and love to intentionally pray for. It is my duty as a daughter of God to love, respect and do everything I can to lead and guide my siblings closer to Christ and eternal life with Christ. At 18, there was this longing in my heart to know why God put me here on Earth, in Southern California, at the small parish we call home, St. Joseph’s. This desire to know my purpose only grew and one day during mass I heard to simple words, “to Love.” We, the sons and daughters of God, are made out of love, by Love himself, to love. “To love.” There were no conditions in Jesus’ response thus there should be no conditions in who we pray for.

The verses below reportedly were written on the wall of Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta, India, and are widely attributed to her. Some sources say that the words below were written on the wall in Mother Teresa's own room. In any case, their association with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity has made them popular worldwide, expressing as they do, the spirit in which they lived their lives.

They seem to be based on a composition originally by Kent Keith, but much of the second half has been re-written in a more spiritual way. The version found written on the wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine

enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them

anyway.

-this version is credited to Mother Teresa May we all choose to forgive, be kind, succeed, be honest and sincere, to create, be happy, do good, and give our best no matter what other people do to put us down. In the end, our life is not the one who should receive the glory.... all Glory needs to Be given to God, and we do that by never shutting the door on an opportunity to be a blessing to others. May God bless you and your families abundantly. May we as a community, pray for every person, especially those who wrong us. May we choose to give God the glory. As Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Heavenly Father.” -Matthew 5:44-45 Blessings, Katherine Gonzalez

St. Joseph Catholic School Mission

St. Joseph Catholic School provides a distinguished academic education guided by our Catholic heritage. In the spirit of Christian collaboration, our School and Parish community grow together in Faith, Excellence, Respect and Pride.

Every six years, St. Joseph Catholic school engages in a thoughtful and thorough self-study in order to define what is working well for the school community (school strengths), and what it needs to do better to meet the needs of its students (critical growth areas). Over the past 12 months, the school community has been collecting data specified by WCEA, soliciting information from students and parents via survey and collecting data specified by our work. We are now in the process of analyzing the data and creating an Action Plan. We ask that you keep us in prayer as we work toward our Accreditation visit.

APPLICATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR

It is our pleasure to serve you, your family and to share what makes our school different. We want you to catch a glimpse of what happens when our faith in Christ is woven into a strong academic education.

We believe you will be convinced that a Catholic education will help your child(ren) grow in ways no other school can.

St. Joseph Catholic School will prepare your child(ren) academically, and equally im-portant, spiritually for the future.

Enrollment begins March 5, 2020.

Please call the school at 714-528-1894 to set up a tour or new student testing.

St. Joseph Catholic School is excited to welcome our WCEA/WASC Accreditation Team in March to our great school.

The team is headed by Ladonna Lambert, Principal of Good Shepherd Catholic School in San Diego. Her team, consisting of one administrator and three teachers from schools in the Diocese of Orange, will receive our Self-study document and an orientation of the school.

We know that they will be welcomed with open arms by our St. Joseph Community and we look forward to working with them over the next month.

Thank you for all your support and prayers as we finalized our Self-Study Document.

All shareholders are invited to review our Self-Study document at www.sjsplacentia.org

Faith in Action - Faith Programs Rosary Program: Promote Devotion to the Rosary in

Our Families and Parishes A Higher Purpose Build faithful families and communities through rosary prayer. The Knights of Columbus Rosary Program encourages councils to promote devotion to the rosary in our families and parishes by scheduling regular rosary prayer services. Kits with rosary rings, rosary prayer guides, and leader books are available for councils to order. Overview This program encourages devotion to Mary, the patroness of our Order, and emphasizes the importance of prayer in community and as a family. The Rosary Program encourages councils to schedule regular rosary prayer services on any day of the week, at any time of the year, with the guidance of their pastor. Councils should personally invite each family of the parish and offer attending families a copy of the Knights of Columbus Catholic Information Service’s A Scriptural Rosary for the Family (#319). Holy Hour: Organize a Regular Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration. A Higher Purpose Encourage a deep personal encounter with God. Councils and pastors can work together to organize a regular Holy Hour of eucharistic adoration. A Knights of Columbus Holy Hour, prepared for the men of the parish, could include a reflection, communal rosary, prayers for intercession by Venerable Michael J. McGivney or St. Joseph, and various other aspects as decided by the council. Overview The chivalric character of the Knights of Columbus and the Church’s long tradition of spiritual combat resonate with men today – especially as threats from the world and the devil are so keenly felt. Councils can organize their Holy Hours in a variety of ways and incorporate aspects such as: perpetual adoration, the sacrament of reconciliation, prayer for particular intentions and more.
