    ANTIQUES NEWSLETTER

MARCH 2012 VOL. TWO ISSUE 3

SPRING CLEANINGNORWOOD STYLESpring cleaning can be defined as an out-with-the-old and in-with-the-new attempt wipe away winters grit and welcome springs newness. Were doing just that atNorwood, plus some. Were expanding within. Is this an ironic play on words?Perhaps, but heres what I meanour brick and mortar footprinthasnt changed, buthe inner expanse is better than ever.

Weve discovered quite a nice little piece of real estate within our four walls that, unrecently, was unknown to many of our customers. A few weeks ago, we actually brothrough a brick wall to reveal a long forgotten room in the Mall. Fortunately, one of

newest vendors was willing to take on the challenge of filling this space ever soappropriately with repurposed items that offer a primitive flair. On your next trip tNorwood, just ask about the new room. Well be happy to show you.

Last month we shared a literal tour of our second floor. We think it deserves anothemention. Weve been busy on the secondary level. At the very top of the stairs, youwont believe the new look. Its a whole new experience. In fact, were keeping it a

secret until you visit again. Be sure to check it out. We think youll like what you see

The Ides of March often bring a metamorphosis and were keeping with the traditionStop by to see us soon and let us know what you think of the transformation. May tLuck O the Irish be with you. Happy March!

    The Mexican Makers, Part II

Part I of this article offered identifying

information for the some of the most

significant Mexican silver makers in history.

This Part will provide the rest of the story.

    Bernard Goodspeed, 1940-Classic pre-

Colombia designs with polished stones and

    carved masks. Mark - a simple B.

    Antonio Pineda, 1941-Spratling-trained,

perfected the large, dramatic pieces giving

the expectation of weight but hollow and not

heavy, technically very hard to create. MarkANTONIO as a crown shape.

Margaret Van Vorhies Carr, 1948 - known

for enamel on silver and lots of color. Mark

    MARGOT de TAXCO.

    Enrique Ledesma, 1950-Spratling and

Castillo trained, he used modernistic designs

    and stone inlays. Mark LEDESMSA.

There have been thousands of working

silversmiths in Mexico and still are. A well-

made piece, even unsigned, is worthy of acollectors eye. Prices are rising on all such

    jewelry.

For more information, I recommend and

Penny Chittim Morrill books and for

    spectacular color photos. Vintage Jewelry
