Tip 1 - Know, I mean really know, your buyersIf you’re going to use social media as part of your marketing strategy then it’s really important to know who is reading your material and who is visiting your website. When you really know the buyers who are most interested in your offerings, you can start to design a set of typical customer profiles. These will help you to understand what it is your buyers are really interested in, what is going to motivate them and the kind of things to grab their attention and motivate the right kind of action from them. It will help you to design your content to match their expectations. You may, as I do, have many different customer personas to work with. The beauty of looking at your buyers in this way is you increase the value of your marketing by taking into account those personas and constructing a series of messages suitable for each one and driving them all into the buying process using messages which work for them on an individual basis. Within this is the need to understand people, make decisions in different ways and your messages should take this into account wherever possible. This level of care

and attention to different personality types is not possible using standard interruption techniques. I work to and along with, the general differences of my client’s identified personas I also take account of other differences such as ensuring the landing pages have the big picture view for one personality type but with a very obvious link which navigates to a much more detailed view for those who are motivated by detail and the small print. Tip 2 - Be your own publisher, think content strategyBuyers today don’t want product hype and spin, they need quality information and good quality content delivered to them in the right place at the right time using the right language for them. The quality of the content is all important as it helps in the development of your brand as a leader in the market in which you operate. Your content should inform and at the same time create an environment to promote sales through its validity and quality. Think like a professional sales person, in other words think about dealing with the buyers problems and the possible solutions rather than the obvious pitch for your product or services. Think about who your

readers are and what it is they will want to be reading and then simply deliver it to them. Tip 3 - Thinking about content, think goalsIt is so important when you’re planning your content strategy or indeed writing the content, that you think about your goal. What is it you want to achieve with this content? What actions do you want people to take as a result of reading the content? Use the same principles you would for presenting directly to an audience, in other words, make sure your content gives a clear message they are going to understand and also leaves them knowing the action you want them to take as a result of the encounter. Tip 4 - demonstrate your leadership through your contentDon’t just sell something. Use your content to demonstrate you’re a leader in your field, not just with your Web content but through all of your online marketing content. Show the outside world you are worth listening to and you know what you’re talking about when it comes to your market place. Seek to become a bit of a celebrity in your arena, or if you can’t do that, at least be seen to have an association with others who are already seen that way.

Tip 5 - Be the one they trust the mostIf you’re online because you want to sell something; a product, a service or you want to generate leads or maybe get some kind of contribution. What all these objectives have in common is the need for buy-in from the prospect you are communicating to. When looking at online marketing the best way to achieve these goals is to have a good content strategy to get the message, to the right people at the right time, in the right way. You should be using a combination of activities and experiment with more than one thing at a time, keep those activities which work and drop those that don’t. A word of warning about dropping those activities that don’t work. Remember you need to give them the right amount of time to work so, be patient. Understand the flash to bang time! Also consider, in some cases, timing might have an impact on success. So, perhaps, in some cases you might want to just cease the activity for a while and bring it back into play when the time is right.

prepare, plan & prepareJanuary can be a dark month in business. Retail clients are feeling the credit squeeze from the festivities, and business is slow to restart after holidays, so what do you do with the those spare hours you are not used to having? How about that old business entertainment - planning?

If you find yourself with some precious slow time in your business, I recommend you fill it with preparation, planning and preparation. Firstly prepare to plan, then plan, then prepare to implement the plan.

Prepare to plan - Ask yourself How, Where, Who, What, Why and When questions about your business as it is. These will unlock new ideas for what you would like to do next. Plan - work these new

ideas into a plan which matches your personal exit strategy (not got an exit strategy? How do you know what you want your business to provide for you?). Prepare to implement the plan - a SWOT analysis should do here - assess the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, then go back to How, Where, Who, What,

Why and When to make the plan work.

Now you know what you want to do when the rest of the world wakes up from their winter slumber.

time For new VisionThere’s always a time of reflection as we let go of one year and approach another with renewed hope, hopefully some wisdom gained, and a vision for how the next year of our one wild and precious life can be. My lovely friend and spiritual mentor, Gill Edwards, died in 2011, and didn’t know her last Christmas would be her last Christmas. How would you live this coming year if it was your last, and best ever? What would you change?

How was 2011 for you? Many say it’s been a tough year. 2012 stands boldly before us, predicted by some to be the end of civilization as we know it, but others say it is the beginning of the new age of Enlightenment. I prefer to believe that. The Buddha once said ‘You will know Enlightenment when it tastes of freedom’. I like that! So I have a question for you – in order for you to have a lighter and enlightened year ahead, what do you have to do differently? What do you need to start doing to have your best year yet? What do you need to stop doing? What do you need to do more of? What do you need to do less of? And what will be the result of doing, or not doing, all of that? Jump forward to New Year’s Eve 2012 and look back on the GREAT

year you will have had, and feel really good as you do. Test out your vision ahead of time – see if it’s a vision worth having, a life worth living! Ensure there’s oodles of fun and freedom built in, meaning and purpose, and of course LOVE. Make time for all that’s important to you.

Start The year Fresh!Well here we are in 2012 the year of the Olympics and no doubt some of you will have the desire to win your own Gold medal, and start the month of exercise, and no doubt after a month some of you will give up because you have either over done it, injured yourself or just got bored.

So let’s start with the basics you DONT have to immediately join a Gym and kill yourself trying to look like Arnie or in the case of the ladies some super slim model, start slow, but first put the building blocks in place. Do drink more water, it will hydrate muscles, it will flush out your system of toxins and it will refresh you. Cut out some of the Coffee and replace it with a glass of water.

Think of joints and ligaments as elastic if they dry up, they rip apart a lot easier than if they are lubricated and stretched. PLEASE WARM UP! First stretch the muscles, don’t go from cold to a hundred miles an hour or you will be paying a call in A&E on the way through.

15 minutes of exercise a day will help, you have things around the house you can use. And I know its cold, but a walk is a great exercise, swimming is good if you are just starting up again. If you decide that running is for you don’t hit the pavements first. A jog is ok but start on grass, concrete is unforgiving don’t run a mile in those new trainers get use to them slowly,be kind to your feet, they won’t be any use full of blisters.

Just remember starting slow and building up to something is a lot better than going off from a cannon and landing in a heap on the ground, give it a few months of building up slow and then you can do the Gym and make sure that you take it steady and get help and advice about what you should and should not do.

Ingredients2 Blocks of Butter

1 Medium Onion (diced)

8 Shiitake Mushrooms

1 tsp Chopped Herbs

(Parsley, Basil)

1/4 pint of Single Cream

2tbsp Brandy

1 Clove Garlic

400g Ducks Liver

800g Smoked Streaky BaconMethodMelt the butter in a saucepan, add the duck liver and brown. Add the diced onion, mushrooms, garlic and fry for a further 5 minutes. Add all the other ingredients, except the bacon, and simmer for half an hour. Place the mixture in a food processor and blend till smooth.

Line a 12”x3” loaf tin with the bacon and pour in the mixture. Place bacon on top of the mixture and cover with foil. Place the tin in a roasting tin and fill with water so that it covers half the tin. Place in the oven, at 150c for 45 minutes. Take out of the oven and place the tin on a cooling tray. When cold, turn the terrine out. It can then be sliced and served with warm toast and chutney.

Thailand conjures up images of Saffron robed monks, idyllic tropical beaches and exotic temples. This South East Asian Kingdom is spread over ap-proximately 198,455 sq. miles and borders Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambo-dia and Malaysia. With around 2000 miles of coastline it is a popular tourist destination, offering a huge range of sightseeing opportunities in contrasting terrains.

Thailand’s peak tourist season runs from November to late March when the climate is drier and a little cooler. However, if you wish to avoid the crowds and take advantage of low season rates you should always consider travelling at other times. The climate does vary from region to region; Koh Samui and Koh Phangan for example tend to have more sun and less rain than other areas during the summer months.

Most flights to Thailand arrive into Bangkok where onward connections can easily be made to the rest of the country.

Bangkok is an amazing city and it’s well worth allowing a few days to explore this fascinating metropolis. Endless shopping opportunities from bustling mar-kets to luxury modern arcades combine with a rich culture and glittering exotic temples. Or you could just relax with a Singha beer and watch the world go by on the famous Khao San Road. No visit would be complete without seeing the Grand Palace, a beautiful example of an ancient Siamese court. This used to be the residence of the Kings of Thailand and amongst its highlights is the stunning Emerald Buddha. This is actually made of Jade and is said to have been created in India in 43BC. A personal favourite is the temple Wat Pho which features a 46m long reclining Buddha as well as the largest collection of Buddha images in the country. Popular day trips from Bangkok include the world famous bridge on the River Kwai near the town of Kanchanaburi.

The northern city of Chiang Mai is also high on the agenda of places to visit. Often referred to as the Rose of The North, this small cosmopolitan metropolis has a stunning mountain backdrop and is the starting point for treks to the Hill Tribe villages. You can also sample great street cuisine, or visit Gawila Stadium and take in the frenzied atmosphere of Muay Thai boxing.

No trip to Thailand would be complete without a few days relaxing on some of Thailand’s magnificent beaches. From the busy resorts of Phuket or Pattaya to island hideaways like Koh Chang, and with plenty in-between, Thailand has something for everyone.

As with most places, in our “Fine City” there are some hidden gems and some gems that are rather obvious, but it is amazing how we don’t notice them, even the glaringly obvious ones and even more amazing that we know so little about some of them!

Pull’s Ferry is a beautiful little spot on the river, a place which has featured in paintings, photographs and drawings for many years, but, apart from the odd paragraph about it in most guidebooks and histories of the city, little is written about it in

addition to the much repeated information on Sandling and John Pull. The dates quoted are often at odds with each-other, as some say that John Pull plied his trade from 1769 but others tell us that he stopped in 1841! What cannot be disputed, is that John Pull did keep the pub next door and he was a ferry-man. The ancient gateway is said to be the entrance of a canal that went up to the Cathedral and this was the way into the Close for river-craft and barges. Some guides tell us that this was the way the stone was taken into the building site for the Cathedral, but, again, very little is published to uphold these statements.

Norwich Castle stands overlooking the city, as it has for nearly 1,000 years, but how many of us actually know that much about it? Do you know that what we see today, when we look up from Castle Meadow, mostly dates from the early C19th. The whole building was refaced in the 1830’s. Many of the buildings on the mound, are actually prison buildings and not part of the medieval castle as such. (In fact, some of my own ancestors were incarcerated in the Castle Prison in 1882!) Much of the inside of the keep, only dates from the late C19th when it was turned into a museum and the prison cells were stripped out. The four walls are castle walls, but there was no roof on the keep as a whole, during much of it’s history. Next time you are in the Castle, look at the displays that explain about the building itself and find the oldest parts, the King’s quarters, the stairs and corridors within the walls and the well, these are all worth looking at in detail as

they tell us so much about the origins of this beautiful building. The interesting part of the photograph, for a lot of you who have moved here in the last few years, is the old Cattle-Market that used to be in the area that is now Castle-Mall. That area has altered quite substantially and it takes a lot of imagination and memory-jogging to think how it once was In my childhood, I remember it with busses and cars parked there and the little parade of shops up the steps.

Churches: Norwich has a fantastic selection of Churches and it is quite easy to spend a whole day just exploring these gems of medieval architecture, (there are even some later ones well worth looking at too). The picture shows St Stephen’s Church,

the yard of which, has sadly become a bit of a pedestrian motorway. Many of the stones seen on the photograph, have gone and lots have been broken or laid down as paving slabs. My own opinion, (not the opinion of The Circular I hasten to add,) is that the development of this area has led to the desecration of this Churchyard. It is sad to see how, over the last few years, a once peaceful haven, has become a litter-strewn mess, but that is progress I suppose and our pursuit of the next must-have item from the shops has taken precedence over our history. All we can do today, is look at how these areas were in the past and see how they appear today. In some cases, we haven’t done too bad a job of preserving the past, but in some cases we have mucked-up big time. Following the article relating to Horsham St Faith’s, I received correspondence regarding the accuracy of some of my comments. While writing my articles, I rely on previously published material such as local reference books, old directories, etc and put together something that I hope will make you want to find out more. The sources I used for the Horsham St Faith’s article included: Bryant’s History of the Hundred of Taverham, various Trades Directories of Norfolk, the 1818 History of Norfolk by Thomas K Cromwell, etc, all of which told me that the Knights Templars were at Horsham St Faiths. It was pointed out to me that there was, in fact, a hospital of the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem and the Knights Templars were never in Horsham St Faith’s.My apologies for this misinformation.
