Weaver called the regular meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. ROLL CALL Trustees present: Chris M. Bott, K. Ross Childs, Rachel Johnson, Jane T. McNabb, Kennard R. Weaver Trustees absent: Douglas S. Bishop, Michael Estes Also present: Jerry Achenbach, John Biolchini, Alex Bloye, Julie Clark, Vicki Cook, Marguerite Cotto, Joy Evans, Diana Fairbanks, Holly Gorton, Colin Kreh, Ben Minor, Floyd Miras, Kyle Morrison, Todd Neibauer, Pam Palermo, Sandy Paley, Paul Perry, Mark Phillips, Linda Racine, Stephen Siciliano, Christine Snyder, Mike Surgalski, Brian Sweeney, Rebecca Teahen REVIEW OF AGENDA-The agenda was accepted as presented by unanimous vote on a motion by Jane McNabb, seconded by Ross Childs. REPORTS Merchant Marine Medal r Outstanding Achievement to Capt. Phillips-Jey Achenbach, Superintendent ofthe GLMA, introduced Mr. Floyd Miras, MARAD Director- Great Lakes Gateway Office in Chicago, who presented the Merchant Marine Medal r Outstanding Achievement to Captain Mark Eric Phillips, GLMA culty and alum. Capt. Phillips was nominated in recognition ofhis distinguished ceer as a U.S. Merchant Marine officer and his dedication to the development ofthe next generation ofU.S. Merchant Marine officers. The Board thanked Capt. Phillips r being another fine example ofNMC. Faculty Report - Cruise on the State ofMichigan-Mike Surgalski, GLMA Instructor and Captain on the TS State ofMichigan, presented on the 45-day cruise that counts toward the required amount ofsea time, including Coast Guard required river time, to provide all cadets similar experience. Surgalski explained there are multiple cruises per year and by the second trip the cadets are working the ship, r the most part. The Board thanked Mike Surgalski r his report. HLC Update- Category 6: Quality Overview-Joy Evans, Executive Director ofResearch, Planning and Effectiveness, provided a status report on the HLC Systems Portlio work timeline r NMC's accreditation process, sharing again that the ll Systems Portlio was due to the HLC on November 6, 2017. She presented on the Systems Portlio Category 6: Quality Overview that includes quality improvement initiatives and culture ofquality. This category provides the college with the opportunity to reflect on the quality improvement initiatives, how they are interpreted, and how they contribute to the improvement ofthe college; and provided supporting examples ofeach. In response to a question, Evans explained that teams e assigned to specific sections of the Systems Portlio, which are then opened up to other groups r review and input. Merchant Marine Medal for Outstanding Achievement to Capt.
