ADULT-CHILD PROGRAMS

Adventure Guides boys & girls ages 5-12 with their dad: In Adventure Guides, parents & their children develop healthy relationships, gain a sense of belonging, and learn the importance of giving back to the community through one-on-one interactions, activities with other families, andcommunity service projects. At the heart of the program arethe Compass Points, which give members a sense of direction and an inspiration for activities:

• FAMILY. Family is “true north”—the focal point of the program.• NATURE. The natural world and the camping experience are integral parts of the program.• COMMUNITY. The spirit of the program is experienced through belonging to a small Community—the Circle.• FUN. Fun is the magic of the program.

Ballroom Dance ages 18+: Bring your partnerto learn the Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Waltz andBolero at the Y! Each dance offered in its ownsession so choose one or all.

TUMBLE More Info + RegisterTumble classes are based on ability not age.

Preschool Tumble coed ages 3-5: This classallows active preschoolers to develop a lovefor tumbling while increasing their physicalfitness. Participants will gain flexibility andcoordination while learning forward and backward rolls.

Boys Tumble boys only ages 4-8: This class iscustomized to the skills and energy level ofyoung boys. Participants will work on rolls,handstands, cartwheels and other skills thatwill help with flexibility and coordination.

Tumble 1 ages 3-12: This beginner class is for girls who have no previous tumbling experience. Participants will practice forward & backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, bridges and strengthening exercises. Your child will need a solid cartwheel to advance to Tumble 2.

Tumble 2 ages 5-12: This intermediate classis for girls who have completed Tumble 1 orhave a solid cartwheel. Participants will continue to perfect tricks from Tumble 1 andadd backbend kickovers, handstand snapdowns, walkovers, roundoffs and more totheir skills. Your child will need a solid backbend kickover/walkover to advance.

Tumble 3 ages 6-14: This advanced class isfor girls who have completed Tumble 2 orhave a solid backbend kickover & walkover.Participants will learn backhand springs,ariels & more and will start learning to linkskills together by using roundoff with back-hand springs.

Our dance and tumble programs run with the school year, followingthe Cobb County Schools calendar. Our dance instructors will helpyour dancer build confidence, perfect practicing techniques anddevelop a love for healthy living as they learn their routines. Petite Feet ages 18 months-3 years: This parent-assisteddance class is designed to help your little one learn the basics of movement and balance through dancing, singingand tumbling.

Beginner Ballet ages 2-3: Welcome to ballet for the beginner. Your young one will have a ball while gaining flexibility, coordination, and self-confidence.

Preschool Ballet & Tap ages 2-5: Your preschooler will learnballet and tap basics while gaining flexibility, coordination,and self-confidence.

YOUTH DANCE More Info + Register

Ballet/Tap & Jazz ages 5-7: Flow from the smooth transitions in ballet to quick tapping feet to the sharp movements of jazz.

Ballet/Jazz ages 6-11: We will teach challenging ballet technique then transition into current jazz routines.

Hip Hop ages 6-11: This class is a great chance for yourdancer to try a different style of dance that is upbeat andhigh energy. They will learn to memorize choreography byworking on a combination each class.

Performing Group 1st graders+: This is an invite-only groupwho have multiple years in our academy. These dancers willperform in the community at nursing homes, in parades, etc.

DESIGNATE + EVALUATE = ACCELERATE

Welcome to the our new Y Swim Lesson Upgrade. Our “Designate + Evaluate = Accelerate” model makes swim learning and advancement more efficient then ever before!

DESIGNATE – Register by age group.

• Infant & Toddler ages 6 - 36 months A Parent + Child Class!

• Preschool ages 3-5 years

• School-Age ages 6-12 years

• Teen & Adult ages 13+

EVALUATE – Each participant will be skill tested during thefirst class to determine their Stage of Learning

ACCELERATE – Participants are placed according to currentskill level so they can advance quickly through the stages tobecome a confident swimmer.

Ratios Rule: 1:12 for Infant-toddler, 1:4 for preschooland 1:6 for all other lessons ensure participants have atrained instructor at every level and ability to help themprogress through the stages.

Swim Starters: Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortablein the water and develop swim readiness skillsthrough fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about watersafety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. This group is onlyparent-child lessons for ages 6 months to 3years, and contains the following stages...A – Water DiscoveryB – Water Exploration

Lightning Policy: We close all pools, saunas, steam rooms, and pool decks for 30 minutes following lightning or thunder.

Make–Up Policy: In the event of inclement weather, we will attempt to make up class on Friday. Please make sure we haveyour current email and phone number on file. In the event child misses a lesson, we cannot guarantee credits or refunds.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private/Semi-Private Lessons members only ages 3+:Cost includes 3-hour block of time (your choice of three1-hour, six 30-minute or four 45-minute lessons). One-on-one instruction, for a wide range of swimmingabilities. Please stop by the Membership Office to fillout a private lesson request and an instructor will contact you within one week. Payment required at registration. Must be used within 6 months of purchase.

YMCA SWIM TEAM

Wahoos Swim Team facility members ages 6-18: This programis an introduction to competitive swimming in an “everybodyswims, everybody wins” atmosphere. Coaches work on allfour strokes and techniques. This team focuses on fun, building self-esteem, and prepares children to compete atthe next level. The team practices at the Y and competesagainst other Y’s in weekend meets. Cost includes Y swimcap, official team t-shirt and end of season banquet. All newswimmers must tryout. Fall & Winter: Evaluations in AugustRegister in person at the Y

Under 8 Required skills: Be able to swim at least one length of thepool freestyle and backstroke without stopping. Kids buildconfidence and refine all four competitive strokes throughdrills and games, and learn lifelong skills like team work andgood sportsmanship both while practicing and when competing in swim meets. This group is great for kids whohave been enrolled in swim lessons.

9-10 year oldsRequired Skills: Be able to swim freestyle and backstroke 100 yards without stopping and breaststroke and butterfly 25 yards; able to perform and regularly use skills such as flip turns, streamlining, and circle swimming. Kidsbuild confidence through learning aboutgoalsetting, and then working towards dailygoals, personal goals, and team goals.

11 & upRequired skills: Be able to swim all 4 competitive strokes for at least 100 yards without stopping. Swimmers will continue to development strokes and endurance.

SPECIALTY SWIM

Adaptive Aquatics: One-on-one instructor is available for special needs mem-bers. Please stop by the Membership Officeto fill out a private lesson request and an in-structor will contact you within one week.Payment required at registration. Must beused within 6 months of purchase.

Swim Team Prep ages 6 & up: The class refines all four competitive strokes (butterfly,backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle). Students will begin to have more structuretraining sessions that will prepare them forthe swim team. Summer: AugustMore Info + Register

The COACH APPROACH®Exercise Support Process A six

month program provided free for members 18+:Maximize yourmembership with The Coach Approach – a YMCA exercisesupport process designed to teach new or returning exercisers how to start and stick with their personalized exercise program. Learn how to kick the inactivity habit,shape workouts around activities you prefer, measure effects of exercising on mood, stress & energy and stay ontrack when schedules throw you a curve ball. NEW! Weight Loss for Life free for members ages 18+: Starting January 2017 the Wellness Department will bestarting a new chapter with Coach Approach. FITNESS EQUIPMENT

Cybex Equipment Orientation free for members ages 13+:Y Wellness Coaches are available to answer your fitnessquestions, provide instruction on how to use the Cybexequipment and design a safe, effective exercise routine.Schedule appointments in Membership Office or Front Desk. Facility members ages 9-12: May use select wellness equipment upon meeting the following criteria:• Complete orientation with parent/guardian present• Workout only with parental supervision

GROUP EXERCISE

Group Exercise Classes for facility members13 & older:We offer a variety of group exercise classes including Boot Camp, Zumba,Body Sculpt, Yoga and more. Check out ourschedule online.

Water Group Exercise Classes: Watergroup exercise classes provide significantcardiovascular and strength training benefitswhile reducing the burden on stress-bearingjoints and muscles. This is a workout that isappropriate for all ages and fitness levels.Check out the online pool schedule.

TRAINING

Personal Training facility members ages13+: Meet with a trainer who will develop apersonalized program just for you. Discoverways to take your workout to the next level.May be used in 1-hour or 1/2-hour sessionswith certified YMCA trainers by appointmentonly. Register in the Membership Office.

Kids Triathlon Training ages 6-15: FREE 7-week training program open to kids whoare registered for the Atlanta Kids Triathlon.Trainings consist of fundamental and endurance training. Once registered, sign upfor our free trainings. June/July More Info + Register

CHALLENGES

Wellness Challenges: FREE new challengesare presented every 6-8 weeks to motivateand inspire our members. Look for flyersaround the facility for upcoming challenges.

TRAINING CLASSES

CPR/AED Class ages 16 & up: This class will cover adult, infant and child CPR/AED. We will cover conscious and unconscious choking victims, breathing barriers, and protective equipment. Students will learn how to assess situations and make appropriate decisions for victim care.More Info + Register

Lifeguard Training Class ages 16 & up: This course is designed to give participants the basic knowledge needed tobe lifeguards in the pool, lake, river, surf, and waterpark environments. The comprehensive course offers up-to-dateinformation on how to guard, anticipate, and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger when necessary. It also covers safety and survival skills everyswimmers needs or know, accident prevention, guardingtechniques, emergency systems, rescue skills, first aid inaquatic environments, spinal injury management, weatherand open water dangers, legal responsibilities, etc. Pre-requisites include current first-aid certification, currentCPR, current certification in AED and Oxygen Administration. Complete medical clearance is recommended. Must be 16 bycourse start date. If under the age of 18, participant musthave parental consent to take this course and pass a swimming test. SENIORS

Senior Trips and Tours ages 55+: On amonthly basis we will have activities, get togethers, trips and events. Look for flyers posted around the Y about the tripsand events. Trips may include apple picking,shopping, visiting one of the Atlanta areagardens or helping with our lunch break program. Open to all members and the community. Questions? Senior Health & Wellness ages 55+: Weoffer group exercise and water exerciseclasses especially for our senior members. We also offer Pickleball in the gym to keepyou moving and active.

LUNCH BREAK PROGRAM

The Y is committed to nuturing the potentialof kids, promoting healthy living and givingback to our neighbors. This is why we commithundreds of staff hours and ask our membersto volunteer to help us achieve these goalsthrough our Lunch Break Program. This program brings meals to children in our community during the summer and otherschool breaks, when they are not able to getlunch at their schools. Members can sign upto donate food items, pack the lunches, ordeliver the lunches to one of our sites. Thosewho deliver the lunches can visit with families, play games with the children, andhave a chance to see this project up close. Ystaff and volunteers build relationships withthe children while leading games, songs,crafts and other activities designed to getthem moving and enjoy being outside. Youngleaders from our summer teen camp also benefit from the program by planning gamesand crafts for the kids. TOGETHERHOOD®

Togetherhood® is the Y’smember-led volunteer service program. It activates Y members towork together to plan andlead service projects thatrespond to local communityneeds. Togetherhood® creates social changeand demonstrates that we’re a charity dedicated to strengthening community. Wewill team up with other organizationsthroughout the year on Togetherhood®

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer opportunities are available in every department. Some examples include:

• Preschool & Youth Sports Volunteer: Coach, referee, picture day, score keepers, tournaments or help in our sports department office.

• Administrative Champion: Assist our office staff with filing, copying and data entry.

• Welcoming Ambassador: Smile and greet our members, scan cards at our membership desk.

• Nursery/PlayCenter: Conduct special activities, arts & crafts, storytelling, etc.

• Wellness: Empower youth through fitness and nutrition programs.

• Program Intern: Perform duties and work with a Y Program Director.

• Lunch Break Volunteer: Prepare, pack and deliver lunches during school breaks and summer.

• Aquatics Champion: Assist instructors with swim lessons, swim team and special events in the pool.

• Togetherhood Committee: YMCA’s signature program for social responsibility. This program invites Y members to lead and participate in volunteer service projects that benefits the communities where they live.

• REACH & RISE™ Mentor (see page 3 in this guide)
