THE DDANEWSFROM

Fed Ex Box Installation Staff received a request for the installation of a Fed Ex parcel dropbox in Downtown Northville. Installation will be completed by FedEx near the crosswalk on Hutton Curve across from CVS. The box will be maintained by an external vendor. There is currently a UPS drop box located immediately behind CVS on private property.

Newspaper Rack ReplacementThe DDA Board decided at the August meeting to remove the newspaper rack currently located on Hutton near East Main, and replace the rack located outside of 120 West Main, across from Joseph’s Coney Island with a downsized rack, holding fewer publications. The current racks are in poor condition and are underutilized (publication spaces are frequently empty, due to the decline of print media).

Town Square Pavilion Repair The pavilion was repaired and painted in late May and July. The remaining item to be repaired is the broken frit glass, which staff has been working to find the original vendor. The DDA would purchase the glass through Graphic Visions and contract with an installer to install the glass. DDA staff is talking to Modern Glass, the original installer from 2008.

Northville Downtown Strategic Plan UpdateThe Strategic Plan steering committee recently received a target market analysis for area retail and residential markets in downtown Northville from Sharon Woods of LandUse/USA. The results of these studies will be posted on the DDA website, as well as the Beckett and Raeder project website, northvilledowntownstrategy.bria2.net.

Thank you to everyone that participated in our online survey, as well as our intercept survey on the streets of Downtown Northville. Over 900 people responded to our online survey, and approximately 200 people participated to our intercept survey!

Keep an eye on our website www.downtownnorthville.com for a link to the site which will offer up-to-date information on the Strategic Plan process, as well as opportunities for public participation.

The Skeletons Are Coming! We are pleased to announce the Fifth Annual “Skeletons Are Alive!” event. A component of the seasonal celebration “October in the ‘Ville”, 2016 “Skeletons Are Alive!” will feature an unveiling of 8-10 new skeletons, as well as the return of many of the classic skeleton characters. Celebrate October with festive fun and activities, and more than 100 skeletons located along the streets of Downtown Northville until October 31! Skeleton festivities will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Experience, October 7, from 5:00 - 9:00 pm in Town Square and will include performances by Performer’s Edge dance studio, and live music. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event should contact the DDA Office for more information, or email [email protected].

The Northville Gallerywww.northvillegallery.comAddress: 123 E. Main StreetPhone: (248) 465-9630

In September, The Northville Gallery is excited to welcome a prestigious new featured artist. Heiner Hertling embraces the visual arts in many different forms. Having drawn and painted since his early childhood in his native Germany, a trip to the United States made him realize that he had found his other love - open spaces, wildlife and nature. From intricate detailed realism to bold colorful impressionistic paintings nothing in the arts seemed to be off limits to Heiner.

The discipline and craftsmanship he learned through his advertising career and his enthusiastic lighthearted nature also made him a nationally known teacher and mentor. His Television series “Your Brush with Nature”, a Plein air painting show, has given him a stage to share his knowledge internationally. His on camera ease has earned him an Emmy nomination and many accolades from his fans.

That’s a designation that not too many restaurants anywhere can claim!”

Every Sunday they serve $2 Bloody Mary’s & Mimosa’s and their brand new weekday happy hour menu 2:30 - 5:30 pm includes: $2 hot sake, domestic beers, $3 well drinks and asian beers!
