Introduction
LSE welcomes you to the largest Summer School of its kind in Europe now celebrating its 28th
year. We also want to welcome you to your new hall of residence and wish you a happy and
productive stay.
LSE halls are designed to help you make friends and be part of a first-class student
community during your studies. We do our best to make sure that your stay with us is
rewarding, both socially and academically.
The following pages will inform you of what to expect from your hall and the local area
around it.
We look forward to your arrival at your hall over the Summer.
Welcome from your Warden
Welcome to Northumberland House in
the heart of London. It doesn’t get more
central than this. Situated between
Trafalgar Square and the River Thames
the hall is ideally located to make the
most of everything which London offers.
Northumberland House is a beautiful
Grade II listed building which is located
just one block from Trafalgar Square. The
National Gallery is only a few minutes
away, as are Soho and Covent Garden
with their many cinemas, clubs, theatres,
pubs and restaurants. St James’ Park with
its beautiful gardens and lake is located
within five minutes’ walk of the hall and is
the perfect place to relax with friends.
Northumberland House is run on a day-
to-day basis by the Front of House
Manager and Reception Team, who
ensure that the building remains safe and
sound. As Warden I am responsible for
ensuring that Northumberland provides
you with a safe and pleasant environment
in which to both live and study. I am
assisted in this by three subwardens who
will often be your first point of contact in
cases of student discipline or welfare. We
are all very approachable so don’t
hesitate to contact us to discuss any
issues you may have.
I hope that you enjoy your time with us at
Northumberland House.
Ms Sarah Lee (Warden)

of workstations and a printer. Also
available is an inexpensive, coin-operated
laundry and a common room, with comfy
