Screw anchor foundation tubes are by far the best and most popular method and remove the need to dig any holes. Suitable with most soil types, especially clay soils. Avoid only on ground with a high stone/rubble content, peat soils, or loose ground which has been recently disturbed or deeply cultivated.

Only takes 1-2 minutes to secure each one in to position, a fraction of the time it would take to install ground anchor plates. And without the mess or exertion.

Screw anchors also incorporate our unique, polytunnel cover tensioning system, where the hoops are raised (and locked in place) after the cover is attached to achieve a drum-skin tight finish. The tighter the cover the longer it will last!

Note: Screw anchors are supplied as standard however, other foundation options are available - see page 8.

Hoops that are made from three or four sections are easier to make and more convenient to deliver, however, they are not as strong as a two piece hoop and often require extra bracing bars to support them. That is why we only make two-piece hoops, and one of the reasons why we sell so many polytunnels to customers in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

All our steel tube is protected with our ArmourGuard coating giving it a LIFETIME GUARANTEE (see page 3). Our tubes are 32mm diameter with a 1.5mm wall thickness.

Watch out for other manufacturers who use 25mm or 28mm tube, and sometimes with only a 1.2mm wall thickness (20% thinner).

Our Easy-Build polytunnel comes with the option of either aluminium sliding doors or our PVC ventilation panel.

Aluminium Sliding Doors: Made from easy-to-assemble aluminium sections incorporating our unique ‘W-Wire’ polythene fixing system. Supplied with enough materials to fully clad it with polythene, or to clad the top half with netting for extra ventilation.

We are the only manufacturer who offer long-life aluminium doors. PVC Ventilation Panels: Fabricated from translucent PVC fabric with a PVC mesh insert. Comes with a removable translucent PVC fabric panel which simply attaches over the mesh (to seal the vent) with a Velcro edging. Can be fully opened, fully closed or partially opened. Quick and easy to fit.

Due to the natural variances which occur in timber, and it’s much shorter lifespan, we now only use aluminium for our base rails, doors and door frames. Aluminium is free from defects (such as knots, splits etc.) and will last a lifetime, unlike treated timber which has a lifespan of around 15 years.

We are the only manufacturer who supply aluminium door frames and base rails as standard.

All the fixtures and fittings are simple to attach and allow a little room for adjustment, if required. Every piece of aluminium is cut precisely to length, removing the need to trim off any excess.

Our aluminium base rails, doors and door frames all incorporate our unique ‘W-Wire’ polythene securing system. Simply weave the ‘W-Wire’ in to the open channel of the aluminium rails & frames, securely trapping the polythene in place. Don’t worry if you need to redo a section, it’s easily unclipped and can be ‘wiggled’ back in to place in a jiffy, ensuring a tight, neat finish every time! This is especially useful when pleating the polythene around the door frames. For those of you who have previously used timber rails you’ll already know how difficult it is to fasten polythene using wooden laths/battens - trying to pull the polythene tight whilst holding a lath in place, positioning the nails, and finally hammering them home, and all with only one pair of hands. ‘W-Wire’ is the easiest and quickest system on the market and doesn’t require any specialist tools. Takes half the time of any other method.

Foundations Options

Screw AnchorsBy far the best and most popular method. Suitable with most soil types, especially clay soils. Avoid only on ground with a high stone/rubble content, peat soils, or loose ground which has been recently disturbed or deeply cultivated.

Each screw anchor only takes 1-2 minutes to screw in to the ground. Compare this to the time it takes to dig each hole when using either the concreting method or ground anchor plates, and without any of the mess or exertion.

In recent tests, we measured the strengths of different polytunnel foundation options. The tests showed that our screw anchors out- performed all other methods in most types of soil. A close second place was traditional foundation tubes when concreted in position. In third place, trailing a long way behind, was the use of ground anchor plates (sometimes called ground anchors). They simply didn’t come anywhere close to the other two methods. To give you some idea of the difference, we compared our screw anchors to one of our competitor’s heavy-duty ground plate kits, and found that it took four times more force to pull our screw anchors out of the ground. A real consideration in windy conditions.

Traditional foundation tubes - Concreting method:The recognised method when using traditional foundation tubes is to dig a hole (35cm square x 50cm deep) and set the foundation tubes in concrete. Considered to be one of the most secure methods. Generally only used where screw anchors aren’t suitable. Traditional foundation tubes - Driven in to the ground:Foundation tubes are simply knocked in the ground, leaving 35-45cm protruding. This method is NOT recommended, and only used where the polytunnel cover is trenched in to the ground. All of our polytunnels come with a base rail making this method obsolete.

Base Plates (for concrete base) Base plates are only used when fixing your polytunnel onto a solid concrete base or railway sleepers. Supplied with fixing bolts for securing in place.

Ground Anchor Plates (Ground Anchors) Generally only used where screw anchors and traditional ‘concreted’ foundation tubes are not the preferred choice. Our tests show this method is far less secure than both of these other options. The foundation tubes have a metal plate fastened at the base which sits in the ground. For these you will need to dig a hole (35cm square x 50cm deep) for each tube. You then backfill the holes with earth. These are suitable when screw anchors can’t be used (e.g stoney ground) and where concreting isn’t an option.

Door Frame and Door Options Our Easy-Build polytunnel comes with aluminium doors and door frames as standard. Each piece of aluminium is cut to size, eliminating the need to cut down or trim any excess material. Each component easily fastens together using steel brackets, removing the chances of making mistakes whilst also removing the requirement for carpentry skills (which would be required to assemble timber doors). Door Frames:

Our single door frames have a 0.8mtr opening. The double door frames have a 1.7mtr opening. Due to the extra width of a double door frame they are only available for 12ft (3.66m), 14ft (4.27m) & 16ft (2.46m) wide polytunnels. The height of the door lintel is approx. 2mtr.

Polythene Options

Lumisol DiffusedLight-diffusing polythene films scatter the daylight as it passes through the polythene. This enables the light to penetrate deeper in to the plants canopy, as it hits the plant from all angles not just from the direction of the sun. This reduces the upper foliage from shading the lower parts of the plant. The overall light reaching your crop is reduced by around 2%. This reduction in light creates a slightly cooler environment, up to 4°C lower at midday in mid-summer, which can be a considerable benefit to many crops especially in the sunnier parts of the UK. Lumisol Diffused is a UV ’open’ polythene film, allowing UV light to reach your plants. This can have many benefits for both edible and ornamental crops. Thanks to its unique anti-condensation additive Lumisol Diffused is able to control condensation on the underside of the film. This reduces dripping (therefore reducing the spread of fungal diseases) and prevents unnecessary loss of light caused by condensation.

Comes with a 7 year guarantee, although a 12-14 year lifespan is not uncommon.

Super Lux 50:50Gives half the level of light diffusion as a fully diffused polythene film, making it an all-round polytunnel cover, especially for those who require a balance between light-diffusing and clear polythene. Considered by many as the ideal polytunnel cover for UK wide use.

Contains an anti-condensation additive to control condensation on the underside of the film. This reduces dripping (therefore reducing the spread of fungal diseases) and prevents unnecessary loss of light caused by condensation.


Lumisol ClearDue to its clarity, clear polythene allows around 2% more light to enter your polytunnel than with a diffused polythene cover. This extra light brings extra heat which can be a benefit during the early and late months of the growing season. Especially popular in northern and western regions where lower light levels naturally occur. Lumisol Clear is a UV ’open’ polythene film, allowing UV light to reach your plants. This can have many benefits for both edible and ornamental crops, such as enhancing the fragrance, taste, colour, earlier harvesting and longer post-harvest shelf life. In addition, UV open films promote plant anti-oxidants which are good for plant health and encourage stronger plants. Contains an anti-condensation additive, making it able to control condensation on the underside of the film.

Side Ventilation, Brace Bars & Additional Ridge Bars

Side Ventilation NEW Low-Cost Design

Although doors allow adequate ventilation on shorter polytunnels throughout most of the growing season, additional ventilation is often required. This simple to operate, low-cost ventilation system offers a practical solution during the summer months, especially for longer polytunnels where stale, humid air can build up in the centre of your polytunnel. Simply wind up the polythene side screen/s when required, and wind down when you want to retain the heat. Can be fitted to one or both sides of your polytunnel. Kit includes aluminium side rail, external polythene wind-up screen, and netting (to cover the ventilation holes). The holes are cut in to the main cover once the side rail has been attached. This kit can be fitted to existing polytunnels.

Brace Bars (Widthways Crop Bars)

Although often used to hold hanging baskets or to support lateral poles on which to tie up your tomatoes, peas etc, they are more often added to a polytunnel to give it extra strength. Even though we boast that our polytunnels are strongest available, they give peace of mind during severe, windy storms and also when heavy snow is expected. They increase the structural strength by at least 20%. Can be retrospectively fitted to existing polytunnels.

Additional Ridge Bars (Lengthways Crop Bars)

Your basic polytunnel should always have a central ridge bar, but additional ridge bars can be added to either one or both sides of a polytunnel. They will of course increase the strength a little, but the main use for these is to provide crop support along the length of the polytunnel. They can be positioned and re-positioned to the most convenient place for the crop you are growing.

Cage SizesEach module measures 2.5m x 2.5m (8’2” x 8’2”). So any size of fruit cage can be supplied in 2.5m increments, both in length and width. Tubes can however be cut down to fit your exact growing area if required. The finished height of the fruit cage is 2 metres.

NettingThe side netting for fruit cages is an extruded high strength 2m (6’6”) high polypropylene net with a 18mm (3/4”) square mesh. The roof net is a knitted mesh used by commercial growers, available in a range of widths from 4m (13ft) to 20m (66ft). Nets are attached to the framework using cable ties which allow the net to be removed during the winter months if required.

FrameworkFramework comprises 25mm (1”) diameter high-strength steel tubing with a 1.5mm wall thickness. Tubes are connected together with galvanised steel joiners, swaged to provide a neat and robust connection. This produces a framework which is up to 30% stronger than competitive systems.

DoorsSupplied with hinges, door fasteners and individual door posts. For ease of access, you can add an extra door to any size fruit cage.

By using raised beds you can create the perfect growing area for various species of plants. By using our unique corner and side bracket system you can stack raised beds on top of each other, creating a raised bed as tall as you like. Advantages of a raised bed when comparing to a traditional cultivation bed are:

Good drainage: As the soil level is above the normal height of the garden / allotment, any excess water will be drained, leaving the perfect growing conditions for your plants

Grow what you choose: As a raised bed contains fresh soil, you can control the conditions of your growing area. This allows you to monitor the pH level, nutrient levels and even help prevent weeds.

Protected Plants: As the raised beds stand out from the normal growing areas the likelihood of damage being caused by trampling, footballs, window cleaners etc, will be dramatically reduced.

The kits are designed for our raised beds however, the ridge tube can be cut down to cater for any length in-between. Wire Cloche Hoops

Super Cloche Hoops - Probably the strongest cloche ever made...

Made from heavy-duty, high-tensile, galvanised wire. Lightweight cloche hoops are widely used by commercial growers as a low cost crop cover. They have an integrated eye within the wire which allows you to fasten down your cover with twine.

The hoops are available in two sizes to make either a 75cm (30”) or 90cm (36”) wide span. We suggest you space the hoops at 2ft - 3ft apart and use a wooden stake at each end to knot your cover around. Both sizes use the 1.85m (72”) cloche film (see page 24). NOTE: Hoops are supplied straight, and are flexed into shape when installing.

Calculating your sheet length:

Once you’ve measured the length of your tunnel (B) you need to make an allowance for the ends, especially if your cover is fixed to the door frames rather than clipped on to the end hoops. The width of the structure (C) and the width of the doors are the main considerations. As a general rule when fixing to the door frames you should add 2m (6ft 6in) per end, so for a 6.1m (20ft) tunnel you would order a 10m (33ft) long polythene sheet.

For a 14ft (4.27m) wide polytunnel with single doors at both ends, you would be wise to add another extra metRE to be safe.

Due to its clarity, clear polythene allows around 2% more light to enter your polytunnel than with a diffused polythene cover. This extra light brings extra heat which can be a benefit during the early and late months of the growing season. Especially popular in northern and western regions where lower light levels naturally occur.

Lumisol Clear is a UV ’open’ polythene film, allowing UV light to reach your plants. This can have many benefits for both edible and ornamental crops, such as enhancing the fragrance, taste, colour, earlier harvesting and longer post-harvest shelf life. In addition, UV open films promote plant anti-oxidants which are good for plant health and encourage stronger plants. Contains an anti-condensation additive, making it able to control condensation on the underside of the film.

Light-diffusing polythene films scatter the light as it passes through the polythene. This enables the light to penetrate deeper in to the plants canopy, as it hits the plant from all angles not just from the direction of the sun. This reduces the upper foliage from shading the lower parts of the plant. The overall light reaching your crop is reduced by around 2%. This reduction in light creates a slightly cooler environment, up to 4°C lower at midday in mid-summer, which can be a considerable benefit to many crops especially in the sunnier parts of the UK. Ideal for grow bagsA micro dripper kit is the ideal solution for watering pots, containers, grow-bags etc, with out watering the spaces between them. Each pot has a dedicated dripper fitted to a flexible 80cm (32”) micro tube. Larger containers may require 2 drippers, whereas grow-bags may require 3-4 drippers. Each dripper discharges 2 ltr/hr. The dripper assembly has a barbed nipple at the inlet which pops in to a hole on the mainline (hole punch supplied). Low density polyethylene pipe, widely used in commercial irrigation systems to transport water from area to area or bed to bed. For use with our range of plastic barbed fittings.

Top Tip: Dip the end of the pipe in hot water to soften it. This will make it much easier to insert the fittings.

This low-cost, easy to use irrigation pipe can be used to transport water around your polytunnel or garden, linking the separate irrigated areas together. Usually connected to a water timer or tap at one end, taking the water to each of your irrigation systems i.e. polytunnel, veg patch, garden borders, hanging baskets, patio planters etc. Often used to create a manifold for dripline or Porous Pipe systems. Highly adhesive and UV stabilised makes it resistant to weathering and the harmful effects from sunlight. This highly transparent, clear tape gives maximum light transmission. Often used for making temporary repairs to glasshouse panes.

Padded foam tape which is placed over each polytunnel hoop prior to the polythene sheet being fitted. It acts as insulation between the metal and the polythene to prevent the build up of heat in the steel frame being transferred to the polythene. Extends the life of a polythene sheet by at least a year. We strongly recommend this is used.

Rather than replace old anti-hotspot tape which is still in place, you can simply replace the outer layer by applying anti-hotspot repair tape over your old tape. Ensure any of the loose polyester layer is removed first. Only use the repair tape on anti-hotspot tape which is in good condition (apart from hav ing a damaged polyester layer).

Horticultural Disinfectant

Hortisept is a specifically formulated blend that is bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal yet user and environmentally sensitive. Hortisept is free from alcohol, acid, aldehydes, chlorine, phenols or halogens, making it a safer alternative to aggressive or corrosive chemicals.

Hortisept disinfects continuously, preventatively and repeatedly. Effectively controls a wide variety of pathogens on hard surfaces, Including work areas and benches, pots, trays, matting, plants and flower buckets, disinfection of cutting tools, glasshouses and polytunnels. Formulated with unique agents to provide control of disease-spreading organisms on all water safe horticultural surfaces. It contains a unique blend of compounds that create an enhanced antimicrobial spectrum. Hortisept therefore prevents microbes from growing and spreading in a way that is not harmful to the environment and will not affect plants or shrubs if accidental contamination occurs. For best results clean and remove all organic matter using Verritex or Polytex before disinfecting with Hortisept.

Sunclear Anti-Condensation

Sunclear liquid solution applied to the inside of polythene alters the behaviour of the plastic surface. Droplets are unable to form and so the loss of light caused by condensation is greatly reduced. Water condenses on the plastic to form a very thin coating which, instead of remaining in position, runs down the curved sheeting to the outside edges of the greenhouse. Sunclear can be applied to any of the flexible or rigid plastics used in greenhouse constructions. Whilst Sunclear was developed specifically for UVI polythene, PVC and polyester sheeting also respond well to treatment.

Verritex can be used in confined spaces as it does not give off fumes or odours during use, which makes it an ideal cleaner for the professional horticulturalist. Verritex achieves maximum ‘sparkle’ and ensures optimum light transmission, essential for healthy and efficient plant growth. Unlike acids it does not etch or damage the glass surface instead it efficiently removes all forms of soiling quickly and effectively.

An alternative to using corrosive and aggressive chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid. With a pH of 9.8 Verritex it will not damage sensitive surfaces such as aluminium or magnesium alloys.

The green residue which maybe covering your polytunnel greatly reduces light transmission through your cover. This often originates from the leaves of nearby trees. Soapy water should NOT be used as this adversely reacts with the oil-based polymers which your polytunnel cover is made of. As the UK’s leading manufacturer of polytunnels we only recommend Polytex Pro, as this has been developed for safe and effective cleaning of polythene, and uPVC (also ideal for conservatories and window frames). It gently yet effectively removes green slime, soot, traffic film, grease, pesticides and chemical residues etc. For best results rub with a soft broom or cloth etc. shortly after application.

Simply add sulphur flakes to the removeable steel cup and plug in. An internal temperature-regulated heat plate heats up the steel cup and its contents to just the right temperature, therefore eliminating any danger of burning and production of any unwanted oxides of sulphur. Coverage will depend on the susceptibility of the crop to fungal disease and the severity of the fungal problem. Typically 1 vapouriser per 100m² for roses and strawberries.

These are the best and most advanced horticultural heaters available. Ideal where no mains power is available (or cannot be relied upon). Often used in conjunc tion with air circulation fans (see page 43) to assist the distribution of the warm air.

If only heating a small area the heat can be projected by convection alone. A small thermal current is generated from the pilot flame which operates the gas valve and thermostat, so no mains electric power required yet still very effective.

Electric Heat Mat with Digital ThermostatFor seedlings to sprout properly and put down strong roots they require an even soil temperature, which is exactly what these heat-mats deliver. Great for extending the growing season or getting a head start with your propagating. In an ideal situation your heat-mat should be laid on top of a 50mm (2”) thick sheet of polystyrene and then covered with a piece of polythene or capillary matting for extra protection (both listed below).

The copper heating element is sandwiched between two layers of aluminium foil and then laminated, to create a heat-mat which distributes uniform heat straight to the base of your seedlings/cuttings.
