ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Partial or full support from various agencies for the

operation of the Northeastern U.S. Seismic Network is grate-

fully acknowledged. The agencies providing support to members

of NEUSSN are as follows:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Office of Reactor

Safety Research,The United States Geological Survey - Office of Earth-

quake Studies,The National Science Foundation - Geophysics Program,

The New York State Energy and Resources Development

Authority, andThe New York State Science Service.

Data from the Seismic Network operated by the ConsolidatedEdison Company of New York and from an array operated by Weston

Geophysical Engineers in New Hampshire were provided to NEUSSN

and the receipt of these data is gratefully acknowledged.

In adddition to the above operational support, equipmentwas also provided by the Office of Environmental Geology of

the u.S. Geological Survey to members of NEUSSN.

The advanced Research Projects Agency of the Departmentof Defense provided a number of geophones and amplifiers to

all members of NEUSSN.

ABSTRACT

This report is the fifth quarterly bulletin of seismicity

in the northeastern United States and covers the period October

December 1976. Included are geographic maps of the seismic

station locations, the epicenters for the quarter, and the cumulative

epicenters for the five quarters. Also included are tables of the

station locations and of arrival times, amplitudes, and periods

for the fifth quarterly epicenters.

INTRODUCTION

This report is the fifth quarterly bulletin of seismicity

in the northeastern United States for the period October

December, 1976. The organizations supplying data for this bulletin

are '~eston Observatory of Boston College, Lamont-Doherty Geological

the Massachusetts Institute ofObservatory of Columbia University,

data for earthquakes in southeastern New York and northern New

Jersey were supplied by the Consolidated Edison Indian Point network

Arrival time data for events in New Hampshire were supplied by

near the United States were supplied by the Earth Physics Branch,

Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, Canada.

Thirteen seismic stations operating during this reporting

period were not listed in the previous bulletin. The thirteen new

stations are DIA-ME, D2A-ME, D3A-ME, DUX-MA, CSNH, GHNH, LANH,

MBNH, WBNH, BGR-NY, ALV-VT, BRV-VT, and COV-VT. stations ELM-NY,

FOR-NY, HMB-NY, and WLI-NY were not operating during this reporting

Station UWL-NY was erroneously listed as WWL in theperiod.

Table I is a list by state, of the stationsprevious bulletin.
