* CALL TO WORSHIP Clyde Pritchard

One: This is the day—this resurrection Sunday All: when tears are wiped away, shattered hearts are mended, fears replaced with joy. One: This is the day—this resurrection Sunday All: when the Lord rolls away the stone of fear, throws off death’s clothes,

and leads us into God’s future. One: This is the day—this resurrection Sunday All: Death holds no fear for us, sin has no power over us,

God opens the tombs of our hearts to fill us with new life. One: Every morning is Easter morning from now on! All: For Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

* OPENING SONG—Come People of the Risen King see next page

PRAYER OF RECONCILIATION One: Very early in the morning, the good news that Jesus was risen and alive among them was shared with frightened friends. Let us confess in silence the fears we bring this morning…

—Silent prayer—

One: Emptier of tombs, on this morning of hallelujahs, we confess how human we are. All: We haven’t done any great evil, but we have failed to do good when we had the chance. Dazzling God, bring us to life. Where we are tired and stressed, give us the energy to serve your creation; transform our hardened hearts into fountains of grace; forgive us for the damage we have done and fill us with the joy of your Spirit.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON One: This is the good news: God our creator gives us new life: the tomb is empty, sin is powerless, death is defeated forever! All: On this very first day, and every day, we walk as God’s people, forgiven and made whole. Thanks be to God! Amen.

* THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ’s peace and love with your neighbor.

WHO SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY “I DO”? WHAT WOULD JESUS SAY? Oh, the times, they are a-changing, and one of the most rapidly changing aspects of our society these days is how marriage is defined. With 17 states having already approved gay marriage, Michigan and others on the way to joining them, it probably won’t be long before you or someone you love will be headed down the aisle into a same-sex marriage. This issue has been a contentious one for our society and our denomination, the PC(USA). The question will be hotly debated on the floor of this year’s General Assembly in June, right here in Detroit.

To help all of us come to terms with what we believe and to understand more clearly what our faith teaches, you are invited to join Pastor Marjorie for a scripture-guided discussion on Sundays at 11:30 in the Library. Our first discussion will be held on May 18th and run approximately 6 weeks. After worship, grab your coffee and come prepared to prayerfully discuss and humbly explore this important topic.

Discussion Leader: Rev. Marjorie Wilhelmi. Your RSVP to the church office would be appreciated.

VISIT WALTER P. CHRYSLER MUSEUM The Men’s Connection invites you to join them for a tour of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills on Wednesday, May 14 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This is a private tour of the facility, now closed to the public, arranged by Northbrook’s Bruce Thomas, Corporate Historian Emeritus, who has worked in a labor of love collecting these archives for almost thirty years. He will guide us past some 75 vehicles and other artifacts that have made Chrysler famous. We will leave the church via van/car pool at 11:45 a.m. and expect to arrive back at the church about 3:15 p.m.. Please contact Phil Owen (248)851-6725, John Thomas (248)827-0507 or Bill Travis (248) 338-3795 by Monday, May 12 if you would like to go. Space is limited to the first fifteen to sign up.

KNIT WITS The Knit Wits will meet on Wednesday, May 14 and May 21 at 7:00 p.m.

SENIOR SOUPER SUPPER Join us in the Library at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Souper Supper on May 22.

NORTHBROOK GARAGE SALE: JUNE 26—JUNE 28 Now is the time to check your calendar and donate some time to work on the garage sale. We will need your help setting up, sorting donations and throughout the sale. Beginning Sunday, May 4, you may sign up to work. We will have a schedule in Fellowship Hall. We will be accepting your donations in May on Sundays after worship until 1:00 p.m. We will also be on hand 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursdays in May. Need a pick up? Call Judy Owen at (248) 851-6725. Thank you for helping make this a success! - Judy & Phil Owen & Barb & Bill Stetson, Co-Chairs

NORTHBROOK BABY CARE KIT DRIVE The Presbyterian Women of Northbrook and the Mission Connection Committee are coordinating a Baby Care Kit drive for the 2014 Church World Service Kit In Gathering in late June. We will be collecting donations of the new items needed to assemble baby care kits. We will have sign-ups and collections in Fellowship Hall throughout May. Collections will run through Sunday, June 22. The needed items are:

cloth diapers t-shirts or undershirts (not onesies) sweaters or sweatshirts washcloths gowns or sleepers diaper pins receiving blankets

All items need to be new and for 12 months or under in size. A baby kit drive to benefit babies and families in need of support seems fitting for the months in which we celebrate and honor mothers and fathers.

GREAT TOMATO GIVE-AWAY Garden Gatherers, the developers of The Great Tomato Give Away, began about 4 years ago as a way to help feed the many people in the Metro area who go to bed hungry. If you are interested in organically growing tomatoes to help feed the hungry in our area, sign up to receive a free tomato plant at the Great Tomato Give-away at Northbrook on Sunday, May 18th. Kids, youth and adults, come and get involved! Instructions on how to grow the tomatoes come with each plant. When the fruit matures, bring the tomatoes back to the church so that volunteers can deliver them to The Baldwin Center in Pontiac. If you are not a gardener, you may also purchase fresh produce to be donated. Last year, Northbrook donated at least 70 pounds of produce to The Baldwin Center. If you are a gardener with a compassionate heart and are willing to support this effort, please let Winnie Davies-Hancock or Sherrill Heinrichs know.
