NORTH WEST AREA JOINT POLICING SUB COMMITTEE Monday 17 th January 2011 @ 3.00 p.m. MINUTES Item Action 1. Minutes of meeting 18 th October 2011. Agreed. It was noted that Superintendent Majella Ryan has retired and been replaced by A/Superintendent Kevin Carey. A/Superintendent Carey was welcomed to the meeting. The Chair asked that a letter of thanks on behalf of the Committee be written to Superintendent Ryan for his contributions to the Joint Policing Committee. 2. Matters arising None 3. Presentation on Youth Service Programmes in the North West Area a) Poppin Youth Centre b) BRYR c) The Den - St. Helena's Road d) Finglas Youth Resource Centre Noted. A discussion on the youth service providers took place following the presentations. The issue of the delay in Garda vetting is a recurring problem with the providers. It is taking a period of approximately 4 months for an individual to be vetted and in some cases it can take longer. Garda vetting is not transferable and needs to be re-applied for each time and individual moves to a different job or area. C/Superintendent Phillips explained that there was one Garda Vetting office for the whole country and with every sports club coach, teacher, youth worker having to go through the process. The Chief Superintendents agreed to bring back the concerns to the Commissioner. Cllr. McAuliffe suggested that the Councillors progress the matter by agreeing a motion at the

D. Hurley of BRYR informed the

members of Easy Street Coultry which is

'A proposal for youth work with young

people in Coultry area'. The project is

due to commence shortly. Information

on the project to be circulated to the

members.

Mary Ann Harris was pleased that the

youth service providers are working in

the parks and asked that if anyone

wanted to contact her with new initiatives

she would assist them in any way she

could. Mary Ann Harris' contact details

to be circulated to the youth service

providers.

a) Finglas Garda update.

b) Finglas Safety Forum update.

c) Finglas/Cabra Local Drugs Task

Noted. It has been decided to split the

Forum into 4 neighbourhood forums who

will meet quarterly. There will also be a

bi-annual meeting of the Finglas Safety

Forum to discuss the wider issues.

Noted. The Drugs Task Force has

received approval to redirect funding to

engage a Co-ordinator for the Finglas

Safety Forum. Interviews will be held

shortly. Cllr. McAuliffe asked that a

formal connection be made between the
