NOTES FROM THE FINANCE OFFICE

Doing some spring shopping? Consider using AmazonSmile for some or all of your purchases. Go to smile.amazon.com to register and shop. (If you already have an Amazon account, you won’t need to create a new one. Just make sure you are on the AmazonSmile site, smile.amazon.com, not regular Amazon.) Designate United Presbyterian Church in the USA North Presbyterian Church as your charity, and .5% of eligible purchases will be sent to North Presbyterian. The one catch – not all items are considered eligible. Check the product’s description to see if it will count.

It is never to late to pay your per capita. This year’s suggested amount is $50 per person. The total amount owed this year to Presbytery is $6,650, based on the number of members we had at the end of 2017. Whatever you give won’t have to come out of our regular funds, so please consider paying per capita this year.

Donations are still being accepted for the Camp Whitman Campaign. Hundreds of children have enjoyed their time at Camp Whitman over the years; we would like to think that hundreds more will find a safe, enjoyable sanctuary there in the years to come. If you donate, please note that your funds are for the Camp Whitman Campaign, and put your envelope in the collection or leave it in the office. All donations, up to $5,000, will be matched before the entire collection is sent to Presbytery.

Children & Youth

Finally, the days are getting longer and the sun is

shining! Welcome Spring!!! We’ve had a busy

March. The repairs on the Sunday school rooms

are complete and the rooms have been cleaned

and switched back. I couldn’t get over how excited

Miss Ann and the little ones were to be back in

their old room. We are now preparing for Palm

Sunday and Easter. The children are doing something special for Easter that

I’m sure everyone will enjoy. On April 14th Karen and Ed Wilson have

planned a big scavenger hunt for all the kids. Many hands are needed to

help out so if you would be interested please contact Karen or myself and

we will add your name to the volunteer list.

Speaking of volunteers, please keep an eye out in

the coming weeks for a VBS volunteer signup sheet

in the bulletin. This year’s theme is “The Incredible

Race”. It’s a race, but not just any race… a race

loaded with interesting challenges to attempt. A

race around the world that’s a global scavenger hunt

like you’ve never seen. At the same time, it’s about another race. A race

that began at the Garden of Eden and continues today. A race made up of

all people from all time. What race? The human race. Please come join us

for a week full of fun and adventure!!!

Our campaign for upgrading Camp Whitman is

going well. If we have any children interested in

signing up for camp please contact the office or

Deb Stamp to get them registered. We do have

Camper scholarships available and camper spots

get filled quickly so contact us and we will get the ball rolling!

Blessings in Christ Deb Stamp Director of Children and Youth Ministry

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING: SHARING RESOURCES AND CHANGING LIVES

WHEN IS ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING (OGHS)?

Most congregations receive "OGHS" on Easter Sunday,

Passion/Palm Sunday or both, while many receive it

throughout Lent—however, you can help sustain the

important PC(USA) ministries and programs that are

supported by One Great Hour of Sharing Offering by

making an online gift at any time throughout the year.

HOW IS MY GIFT USED?

A gift to One Great Hour of Sharing enables the church to

share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the

world by providing relief to those affected by natural

disasters, provide food to the hungry, and helping to

empower the poor and oppressed.

Mission opportunity - would you like to paint in Honduras? Border Buddies is seeking help painting (with some preliminary sanding) newly constructed walls. Higher Hope Church (Big Flats) has a team, led by Al Erickson, going May 26-June 5, 2019 and there are a few openings. Please contact Higher Hope if you want to travel and serve the Lord!

Secure Document Destruction by Southern Tier Industries

ARC’s professionally trained team helps you protect your sensitive, confidential

information. Each security shred bag holds up to 30 pounds of documents and has

a flat bottom for easy loading. Once full, return to Southern Tier Industries, 711

Sullivan Street in Elmira.

Youth Ministry will have these security shred bags for sale for $20.00. $5.00 from

each purchase will stay here at North Pres to support our youth programming.

Please see Deb Stamp to purchase or with questions.

March 18, 2019

The Session met on Monday, March 18, 2019. Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel was the Moderator for the meeting.

Dr. Huling Hummel called the meeting to order and determined that a quorum was present. The meeting was convened in Scripture and prayer led by Wendy Swatling.

Minutes of the February 18, 2019 stated Session meeting were reviewed and approved.

The Financial Secretary reviewed the Financial Statements including the Profit and Loss Budget Performance for February 2019 and the Account Activity Summary for the Endowment Fund. Pledge income for February was $9,790, higher than the budget amount for the month. The Endowment Fund has turned around, posting a change in market value of $49,824. Session received the report including monthly and year-to-date financial statements as presented. An outside review of the NPC finances by Richard McNeilly, CPA is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

Jeff Richards provided the Session with an update on the new committee structure for Presbytery. Jeff is the new Chairman of the Camp Whitman Committee.

The pastor search/working group provided an update on their efforts to secure temporary/stated supply. A video meeting has been set up with Karen Rohr from the Pittsburg Theological Seminary. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.

Transitional Leader for the Presbytery of Geneva, Elder Linda Badger Becker provided the Session with information on options for pastoral leadership.

Buildings and Grounds is investigating the jump in the water bill. Most likely caused by a leak somewhere. Ceilings in the Sunday school rooms that sustained water damage have been repaired and painted.

Session approved the Worship and Event Cancellation procedure, as modified by Session, presented by the Communications Committee.

Session approved the placement of prayer request cards in the pews. Congregants requesting prayer can fill out the card and place it in the offering plate. Ushers will hand cards to pastor when offering is brought up front. Following worship, prayer requests will be given to the Administrative Assistant to input and upload to prayer chain volunteers. Deacons are overseeing the prayer chain. Bobbi Furnas will be asking for volunteers.

Ann Motley announced that Vacation Bible School will be held July 14th – 18th from 5:30 - 8:00. Volunteers are needed.

Session approved the Mission/Outreach committee’s request to sell tickets for a bowling fundraiser for Border Buddies Ministries. $15 buys a ticket for 3 games of bowling and shoes. Children 5 and under are free. Tickets will be sold on Wednesday, March 20th and March 27th following Lenten Services, and on Sunday, March 24th following worship.

Staff Relations will be advertising for the Administrative Assistant position and is hoping to have someone in place by Tuesday, May 28th.

Worship and Music announced that only gluten free products will be (have been) used for communion.

The meeting was adjourned in prayer at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Cindy Kalweit, Clerk of Session
