NSCSS has, during the past fiscal year, continued to provide quality services to abused women and their children as well as to many impoverished men, women and children on the North Shore. 2015/16 was a year of growth for NSCSS. We achieved one of our long term strategic goals to increase the number of beds for second stage housing by completing a renovation of SAGE House to add 2 second stage suites. The suites provide 6 additional beds in addition to the existing 18 emergency beds, which increases our bed capacity by 30% at SAGE House. We also gained a new program called the Homeless Prevention Program which is funded by BC Housing. This invaluable program helps women who have experienced abuse, secure safe and affordable housing, by providing them with outreach support and rental supplements in the private housing market. SAGE Transition House provided shelter to 110 women and 87 children this year. 398 women and 148 children were turned away due to lack of space or their needs were beyond what the program could offer them. Staff answered 1,195 crisis and support calls on the 24 hour Women’s Support Line and provided numerous other callers with information and referrals. Our Outreach, Multicultural Outreach and Adolescent & Children’s Empowerment Programs continue to be in very high demand with 440 new referrals (195 women and 245 children.) Staff answered 514 crisis calls, 2,259 calls for support and information and 151 calls from women who had insufficient resources for themselves and their children. The Good Stuff Connection Clothing Program continues to provide all the women and children in our programs with clothing and necessary household goods as well as men, women and children in the community who were referred by our community agency partners. This year, 293 adults and 255 children were provided with gift certificates to shop at the store free of charge. We have two 2-bedroom suites at HOPE’s Place, our second stage housing program. 4 women and 5 children resided at HOPE’s Place this past year. The Community Programs team supports the families with outreach services such as counselling, support and assistance with accessing other services. The NSCSS Board of Directors met monthly except for August and December and devoted much of their time to fulfilling their fiduciary duties by monitoring and reviewing monthly income statements and ensuring the reporting requirements of the Society were met. We are so grateful for the generous funding we receive from BC Housing and Ministry of Justice and a community gaming grant from the Gaming Enforcement Branch of Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. We would not be able to maintain our current service delivery without the incredible support from the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver. We wish to convey our great appreciation to the numerous business, groups, and individuals who provide their support with individual donations and hosting smaller events with the proceeds being given to North Shore Crisis Services Society. Of course, a huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the work that we do for the women and children who come to us in need of help. Everyone’s contribution to this organization is greatly appreciated. Respectfully submitted Donnie MacDonald, President Laura Reynolds, Executive Director

A message from the President and the Executive Director

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of North Shore Crisis Services Society we are pleased to report to the 37th Annual General Meeting. NSCSS has, during the past fiscal year, continued to provide quality services to abused women and their children as well as to many impoverished men, women and children on the North Shore. 2015/16 was a year of growth for NSCSS.

The program is designed to provide ongoing transitional support for women and their children so they are able to successfully transition to independent lives free of abuse and violence Women’s 24-Hour Support Line The Women's 24-Hour Support Line can help with a variety of issues related to abuse, violence and other women's concerns, as well as provides access to SAGE Transition House. Calls are confidential and are not limited to abuse matters. Adolescent and Children’s Empowerment Program (ACE) The Adolescent & Children’s Empowerment Program provides services for children between 3 & 18 years of age who have witnessed or experienced abuse, threats or violence in the home. Outreach and Multicultural Outreach (MOS) Services Program The Outreach Services Programs provide services to adult women and their children who have escaped or who are at risk of abuse, violence or threats. Outreach Services Program is open to women living in North Vancouver and the surrounding area and to women who have resided at SAGE Transition House. The Outreach Services Program provides support and advocacy, assistance dealing with the family court and criminal justice systems and referrals to community resources. This support group provides a safe and secure environment for women to discuss their experiences and strategies for coping with living in or fleeing an abusive situation. Multicultural Outreach provides culturally sensitive services to a diverse clientele with a focus on immigrant and refugee women. NSCSS collaborates with other multicultural service providers and can provide services in English, Farsi and Afghani as well as provide interpreter services in other languages.
