Napoleon Hill said, Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at oncewhether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action. Tis is rue. We all need to

prepare...to make a plan to store up food for the short term of 3 days, then build up to sixweeks, and ultimately store food for 3 years.

    Hurricane Katrina and oth-

Sandy, have given us a long series

o disaster preparedness wake-upcalls. Why do we keep hi tt ing

    levels o individuals and amilies.

We find that the biggestobstacles to comprehensive amilyemergency readiness education are

the misconceptions surrounding thetrue nature o preparedness. So, to

    2. All I need is a 72-hourkit with a flashlight, first aid kit, some ood andwater, and a radio. Were not surewhere the 72hour figure came

rom, but its anextremely min-imal amount otime and not veryrealistic. A morepractical goal is tobe sel-sufficientor a minimum

o 2 weeks. Why 2 weeks? As badas Katrina was, there are numerousdisaster and terrorism scenarios thatcould see substantially more damage, and a disruption o local services orthree weeks or more. Also, many bi-ological scenarios may see a 2-week

quarantine. Regarding supplies andequipment, avoid the one-size-fits-all simpleton lists and customizeyour disaster kit to fit your amilysunique threats, needs, and assets.

    3. My insurance pol-icy will take care o everything.

SWA teams o insurance agents ar-ent going to instantly rebuild yourlie like on V. Insurance compa-nies will be ar more concernedabout their own bottom line thanyours. In act, many insurancecompanies are rewriting policies toredefine some rather common ter-

rorism or disaster related incidentsas being excluded and not cover-able. Check your policies closely! 4. Good preparedness istoo expensive and too complicated.

Nothing could be urther rom thetruth. Te problem is, we haventmade preparedness a part o ouroverall education. We get more pre-paredness ino on an airline flightthan we get as citizens. Most o usarent taught that there are literallythousands o subtle, simple, and eco-

nomical things we cando to drastically improveour emergency readi-ness. Te notion that itmight be expensive or

complicated has comerom companies that ag-gressively market high-priced unnecessary gear.

    5. We canonly orm a Neigh-borhood Watch group

through FEMA, the Red Cross,or local Law Enorcement.Neighbor helping neighbor is oneo our highest civic duties. No oneregulates this and you dont haveto get anyones permission to co-ordinate your saety with others.

Working with these groups is rath-er advantageous, but not required. 6. In a Weaponso Mass Destruction terror-ist attack, were all dead anyway.WMDs might kill larger numberso people, but that doesnt meanwidespread destruction is a guaran-teed thing. In act, or widespreaddestruction, a top-grade WMD mustbe expertly and precisely applied un-der ideal conditions. Tis does notmean that WMDs are to be ignoredor that theyre nothing to ear, itsjust that Mass Destruction does

NO mean otal Destruction at all.7. Nothing like

that could ever happen here.Tough some areas are more proneto certain types o disasters, say

    8. All I have to wor-ry about is my own amily.echnically yes, but the more youreable to care or your own amily, themore you can and should help others. 9. I prepared-ness were really important it

would be taught in school.Preparedness really is that import-ant, but schools have only so muchtime and budget to teach the thingsthey already do. Tis is one o themany things were trying to change, but or now, youre going to have

to not only realize the importanceo thorough emergency readiness, but to teach your amily yoursel. 10. I can get ree prepared-ness inormation on the Internet. Many ree sources contain reallygood inormation. However, it takestime and experience to filter the trashrom the treasure. Worse, some othese ree sites have inormationthat could actually cause more prob-lems than they cure. Tis is why wespent years in gathering the over 400additional books and training manu-als on the CDs in Disaster Prep 101.

What Exactly is Prepping? Simply put, prepping

means that you live your lie today

but prepare now or any disaster

    that may strike tomorrow. Being

    prepared gives you three distinct

    advantages in case o emergency:

    When news o an impend-

    ing disaster breaks, most people

rush out and clean the shelves olocal grocery and hardware stores.

    Stores only stock so

    much and in these situations,

    they generally dont have enough

to meet the needs o everybody.

    1) I youre alreadystocked, you wont have to worryabout whether or not youll be able

to get what you need to survive. 2) I disaster strikes quick-ly and you cant get out to stores

and medical acilities, youll al-ready have what you need and know

what to do to ensure your survival. 3) You wont have to waste

what little bit o advance noticethat you get fighting other unpre-pared people or necessary supplies

and staples. You can concentrateon last-minute preparations suchas battening down the hatches.

Also, youre not placing additionalburdens on a system that will alreadybe taxed to the point o breaking.

And the weeds o the garden shallbe visited upon the gardener.

I can certainly think othe 7+ weedy sins o the garden butknowing how to cleanse my gar-den o these weeds is even better.Especially i it can be done cheaplyand with household items. Mur-dering weeds is a un past time. So, or your reading enjoy-

ment, here are Te 7 Deadly Home-made Weed Killers, guaranteed tohelp youe r a d i c a t ethe weedsyou find inyour garden.

    1 )Boiling Wa-ter Yep,thats right.Plain oldH2O can

    be used asan extreme-ly effectiveweed killer.As a mat-ter o act,boiling wa-ter is more

e e c t i v ethan many o your store boughtweed killers in wiping out unwant-ed vegetation. Easy-peasy to do. Puta kettle o tap water on the stoveand heat till boiling, then pour onthe weeds you wish to kill. You are

effectively cooking the plant in theground. Boiling water is a great wayto clear out vegetation on a whole-sale basis, like driveways and side-walks. But be warned, boiling wateris not selective. It will cook and in-

stantly kill any plant that it comesin contact with and this includesunderground roots o nearby plants.

    2) Bleach Not only isbleach a spot remover, it is a weedremover as well. Place some bleachin a spray bottle and spray on theweed you wish to remove. Tebleach chemicals will evaporate ordissipate in about two days (or lessbut better sae than sorry), making

the area sae or planting. Again, bleach will kill anything but i you

do get some on a plant you wantto keep, just wash the plant off. 3) Vinegar Vinegar isa great organic homemade weedkiller. Either white or cider vine-gar will work. Te acetic acid in the

vinegar works to kill the leaves onthe plant but not the root. Vinegarwill kill back (kill the leaves but notthe root) any plant but works beston young plants because they donot have enough energy stored in

the roots to regrow their leaves.I vinegar is applied to more es-tablished weeds enough times,

the plant will eventually depleteits stored energy reserves and die 4) Salt It was once aknown war tactic to salt the fieldso enemies. Salting the earth wasalso used as punishment or se-vere crimes in several countriesthroughout history. Te reason is

because salt will kill plants and willmake the ground unsuitable or u-

ture plant growth. On a small scale, you can drop asmall pinch o ta-ble salt at the base

o the undesirableplants. It will killthe plant but willdilute down toharmless in thenext ew rain-alls. On a larger

scale, you cancover your graveldriveway or yourexs yard with agood amount osalt and noth-ing will growthere or months.

(FYI, it is il-legal to salt another personsproperty. Its called vandalism.) 5) Rubbing Alcohol Rubbing alcohol is used aroundthe house because it draws wa-ter out and helps to evaporate it

quickly. Guess what? I you putit on a plant, it will do the samething. You will be basically suck-ing the lie blood out o the weed.

Makes you want to run right out andtry it, huh? But again, rubbing alco-hol is non-selective. It will kill anyvegetation it comes contact with.

    6) Corn Meal Corn mealdoesnt really kill weeds, it just stopsthe weed seeds rom ever develop-ing. Corn Gluten is a pre-emergent,which is a ancy way o saying that isit is a seed birth-control. Corn mealscattered around an area will keepany seed in that area rom grow-

ing into a plant. Tis means a weedseed or a desirable seed. Tis methodis a good option or areas that youplan on planting grown plants in. 7) Newspaper I murder-ing your weeds with chemicals is notyour style, you can always smother

them. Laying down a layer o news-paper at least 4 sheets thick (the morethe better) will go a long way towardskilling the weeds underneath. Teweeds that are already there will dierom lack o sun and the weed seedswill not be able to sprout because theyare not getting any sun to start with. As an added bonus, manyo these 7 homemade weed killerscan be combined to produce superresults. For example, the boiling wa-ter can be mixed with the salt or thevinegar (or both) or a super weedkiller. Use common sense when

combining chemicals and make surethat there are no adverse reactions. You can also add a ewdrops o liquid dish soap to the liq-uid homemade weed killers oradded effectiveness. Te soap isnot harmul to the weeds but the

soap acts as a sort o bonding agentand will help the weed killers tostick to the weed more effectively. Since most o thesehomemade weed killers are all-or-nothing weed killers, you may

    Shelter

Some would argue ood and water

should be at the bottom, or the mostimportant. I think shelter gets thenod or the oundation because i

your homestead is where you want itto be and ully unctional, everythingelse should all in line. Why do you

think people put so much time andeffort into moving to the redoubt,

places like Idaho or Wyoming. Iyour shelter (homestead) is good togo ood and water naturally should

ollow. You will hopeully have a wellon site (or have access to some ormo non-stagnant surace water) and

youll be able to grow ood and raise

animals. It all starts with shelter.

    Food and Water

Next up the pyramid areyour lie support items in

the orm o ood and wa-ter. I you are prepping

you need to put specialemphasis here, especial-ly considering what

is going on latelywith the droughtsand the possibili-

    ty o soaring ood

prices. Having astockpile o ood is

essential to survival when times gettough and I doubt anyone would ar-

gue against the importance o havingresh water to drink and cook with.

    Protection

Guns and ammo! Probably one othe most popular prepping topics

even though it is not the most im-portant. Remember protection isnt

always about deeating a threat withfirearms, its also about detecting and

deterring that threat. OperationalSecurity (OPSEC) is crucial in help-ing you protect your loved ones. Be

careul who you share inormationwith and who you choose to trust.

    Medical & Hygiene

Oen overlooked in many Prep-per stashes are medical and hygiene

supplies. An untreated inectionor ill- ness caused by

    p o or hygiene is

    more likelyt o kill you

    s h o u l dthe SHF versus some gun tot-

ing looter. Having lots o suppliesto treat multiple types o wounds/

    injuries (including antibiotics and

pain killers) can only be seen as thesmart thing to do. It would alsobe wise to keep paper copies o the

    Physicians Desk Reerence (PDR)

and the Merck Manual o Diagno-sis and Terapy on hand should

you not have access to the inter-net during an emergency situation.

    Barter

I you have made progress in all othe other categories on the pyramid

it might be time to start thinkingabout barter items. O course you

can trade anything on the list to oth-ers who might find them valuable, but your bartering stash should in-

clude a ew other essentials. Alcoholwould make a nice item to trade orexample. Tink about what peo-

ple in your area might be willing to

trade or and stock up on some o it.

    Gold & Silver

I am a huge an o stockpilingprecious metals, I believe it is

oolhardy not to. What is worstcase scenario i you should de-

cide to procure gold and sil-ver SHF never occurs and

you are le with the a stash

o gold and silver? Tis isnot an issue, simply selloff your gold and silver to

    subsidize your retirement.

However, keep in mind thatshould you choose to invest

in gold and silver, make it the lowesto your priorities as indicated by

its place at the top o the pyramid.

    Te 3 enets

    Skills

Having all o the items listed on the

Prepper Pyramid will only ensurethat you last a bit longer than those

around you should things get crazy. You truly need skills to survive. Know-ing how to grow your own ood, howto hunt, how to split wood, how to fix

a car, stitch a wound, lite a fire witha flint or your own urine, how to fil-ter and puriy water, and the list goeson and on. Te importance o hav-ing skills cannot be stressed enough.

    People

    In keeping with skills, relationships

with people or community are al-ways an important considerationno matter where you are in yourPrepper journey. Ive said it be-ore, you have to sleep sometimeand there is no such thing as a oneman army. Getting to know your

neighbors and finding like-mind-ed individuals will greatly increaseyour chances o survival in a postSHF scenario. More people withmore skills can only be a good thing.

    Health

Oen overlooked, this is such animportant category. Over 2/3 o theUSA is considered overweight. Tatsshameul at best. Being healthy is adaily task which permeates throughall stages o preparedness. Its notjust about being physically strongand being able to run 5 miles, its also

about not being dependent on med-ication or machines (i possible). Iresources become thin once treatableillnesses or conditions might becomeatal. Putting in the work to stayhealthy is another responsibility o aPrepper and should not be ignored.

Hemp is a variety o the Cannabis sa-tiva plant. It is not the same as mari-juana, as it doesnot contain thehigh levels otetrahydrocan-

July 24th in Utah we cel-ebrate Pioneer Day. Pioneer Day isa state holiday commemorating thearrival o the first band o Mormon

Pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley onJuly 24th, 1847. So in honor o thosegreat pioneers o the past, here arethirteen skills that were everyday tothem that you may want to learn. Most are skills that will be useul evennow, while some may be more neces-

sary in a grid down type situation. 1. Gardening. Growingyour own vegetables and ruits, knowing soil conditions, how toget water to your plants, extend-ing your harvest season, and com-mon garden pests will be vital tohaving a continuous ood supply.

    2. Saving seed. Te otherend o gardening is being able to plantagain next year. Saving seed can bekind o intimidating and mysterious, especially or plants like carrots that

dont go to seed in their first growingseason. Start with non-hybrid seedsand a reerence book like Seed toSeed and practice saving some kind

o seed rom your next garden. Tisis definitely a learned skill, but couldbe vital to a continued ood supply.

    3. Blacksmithing. Beingable to make something useul likea horseshoe, tool, or cooking uten-sil rom scrap metal could come in

very handy. Tis is a skill people willbarter or. Blacksmith work doesrequire a good deal o practice andsome special equipment, but its askill worth learning and the learningcurve is cut a bit i you already knowhow to weld or do other metal work.

    4. Shooting your dinner. Or shoot-ing to protect yoursel. Learn tohit something with a bullet andyoull be better ed and it may evenkeep you and your amily alive.

    5. Dressing that game.AndI dont mean sewing little clothes orit. Once the squirrel or rabbit or birdor deer is brought home, how do you

make it edible? Tis skill applies toany livestock you are able to raiseas well. Youll need to know how toclean and prepare the meat or eating. 6. Cooking over a fire. You may have other methods tocook your ood available, like a so-

lar oven or barbecue grill, but anopen fire is the most primitive andone o the most common means ocooking in a grid down emergency. 7. Making a fire. rysome methods without usingmatches or an extra challenge.

    8. Riding a horse. Tey

make this look easy in the movies, but there is a learning curve involved.A horse is transportation, a pack an-imal, and a riend. Learning to rideone can get you places when roads are

another shelter, or a ence, or some-thing else. Knowing how to use handtools and simple machines will go a

long way i youre having to rebuild.10. Making fun with

sticks and rocks. Or any availableraw materials. Lies not all aboutwork, right? How many games canyou invent with materials you haveon hand? We all need some down

time, but this will be especially im-portant i you have children around.

    11. Knowing and preparingwild edibles. Which plants in yourarea are sae to eat and what parts othem are edible? A little oraging canadd variety to your diet or even sus-tain lie i theres nothing else to eat.

    12. Herbal remedies. Ithe doctors not around, know-ing which herbs to use and howto use them to treat common ail-ments like cough, ever, headache, etc. can be a great blessing to youramily or others around that may

need the help. An excellent reer-ence or herbs and their uses is theEncyclopedia o Herbal Medicine.

    13. Sewing. Patching, fix-ing tears, altering hems and waist-bands, or creating an entire newpiece o clothing or bedding could

help you stay warm and keep yourom running around hal naked.

    1. Go to bed Warm

Jumping jacks, push ups or some-thing similar just enough to warmyoursel up but beore you start sweat-ing. I you get in a sleeping bag whenyou are cold youll likely stay cold.2. Fuel up

    I its going to be a very cold nightconsider a pre-bedtime snack thatwill keep the urnace burning. Slowburning atty snacks like cheese;

avoid refined sugars or caffeine.3. Water

You need to be well hydrated to staywarm. How much water you drinkwithin the hour or two beore yougo to sleep is determined by how astyou process it. I you need to get up

early drinking a lot o water beorebedding down will serve as a natu-ral alarm clock it can be tricky totime it right though. I nature callsin the middle o the night get up andgo! Holding it in makes you colder.4. Clothing

Change as much o your clothing

as possible. Te clothes you woreall day will be a bit damp and cold.I you wear them to bed youll haveto warm your cold damp clothesup beore you get warm yoursel.5. Hot water bottles

water bottles with hot water, wrapping them with some spare

sleeping bag beore you get in it.

    6. Wear a hat

    We all loose a lot o heat rom ourheads. Its not an old wives tale;

wear a hat to keep your eet warm.

    7. Keep your nose and mouth out

    of the sleeping bag

Scouts oen think that i they crawl

all the way into their sleeping bags

theyll be warmer but the moisturein your breath will make the bag

and your clothing damp. A well-de-

    signed mummy style sleeping bag

will allow you to close the bag so only

your nose and mouth are exposed.

    8. More Below than Above

Sleeping warm means insulat-ing your sel rom the ground. A

    good insulating pad is important.

    9. Sleeping bag socks

I you get cold eet at night con-

sider keeping a dedicated pair o

socks in your sleeping bag. Tick,

    non constricting fleece or wool

socks worn only in the sleeping bag

may be the answer to warm eet.

    10. Fluff up your bag

Te insulation in your sleeping bag

    gets compressed when you pack

it so it must be fluffed up to be e-

ective beore you get inside. Do a

    Te bleaching properties o

hydrogen peroxide are used in many

industries. Perhaps its most amiliarday-to-day use is in proprietary

    products used in washing clothes,

or example in some orms o Van-

    ishM. Large quantities o hydrogen

peroxide are used to make sodium

    perborate and sodium percarbon-

ate, which are used as bleachingagents in liquid and solid detergents.

    Sodium perborate, NaBO3.4H2O, is

    made by adding hydrogen peroxide

to a solution o sodium metaborate

    and sodium hydroxide. Sodium

Economist Martin Arm-strong is predictingthat rising resentmentagainst the status quoas a result o econom-ic inequality is likely tocause a serious politicaluprising beore 2016.

It looks more and morelike a serious political up-rising will erupt by 2016once the economy turnsdown. Tat is the mag-ic ingredient. urn theeconomy down and you

get civil unrest and revo-lution, writes Armstrong.

In making the orecast, the econ-omist cites the case o 90-year-oldWorld War 2 veteran Arnold Abbott, who is being targeted by authoritiesin Fort Lauderdale or deying a new-ly passed city ordinance that crimi-nalizes eeding the homeless, an ex-ample says Armstrong o how lawsin the USA have simply gone nuts.

Armstrong, who correctly predict-ed the 1987 Black Monday crash as

well as the 1998 Russian financialcollapse, asserts that the downallo the system will be its inability togauge the anger that Americans cur-rently eel towards their government.

You just cannot make up this stuff.

And the Democrats cannot figure outthat the people are getting pissed-offat who is ever in office? And whatabout the police? asks Armstrong. Is this just turning into thugs withbadges who just enorce whatever

As we reported back in August, theU.S. Army is preparing or civil un-rest in the United States. A 132-pagedocument entitled U.S. Army ech-

niques Publication 3-39.33: Civil Dis-turbances outlines how troops maybe required to deal with unruly andviolent crowds where it is necessaryto quell riots and restore public order.

    Riots which rocked Ferguson,

Missouri earlier this year andthreaten to reignite should O-ficer Darren Wilson be acquit-ted illustrate how single eventscan spark sustained social unrest. However, more widespread dislo-

cation is only likely to occur in theaermath o an economic collapsewhich impacts a huge number oAmericans. As we have seen in nu-merous countries across Europe, including in Belgium just today, crippling austerity measures com-bined with anemic economic growthhave set the stage or violent unrest.

In a February 2013 article entitledWhy the Banking Elite Want Ri-ots in America, we outlined why

the political class is perectly con-tent to engineer and exploit so-cial unrest as a means o pavingthe way or the IMF to engage inits tried and tested method o as-set stripping and looting a nation.

With polls showing some 74% oAmericans are already angry or dis-satisfied with the government, urthereconomic hardship could prove to bethe straw that breaks the camels back.[inowars.com]
