Office of the Superintenden t 18360 Caldart Avenue NE Poulsbo, WA 98370 Ph: (360) 779-8700 TO: Board of Directors FROM: Dr. Richard Jones, Superintendent DATE: January 6, 2012 SUBJECT: Temporary School Closure Committee Attached to this memo is information provided by Dave Dumpert, our Director of Facilities, regarding enrollment projections and possible cost savings related to a school closure. As you know, our school district staff and community members have been actively participating in assisting us with budget reduction ideas over the past several years. The idea of temporarily closing a school due to declining enrollment has come up each year as a possible budget saving recommendation. Given that our enrollment has continued to decline and the indications that state and federal dollars will again be reduced for the 2012-2013 school year, I believe it is time to explore the pros and cons of a school closure in more detail. It is my recommendation that a committee be formed to explore this cost-saving idea and I look forward to talking with you about this in our upcoming Board meeting. Report 6.1.6
