July 2017 marks the last meeting I will preside over as the President and, soon thereafter, the first time I will participate in ABWA as a member without title. I served on the Formation Team to create North Dallas Business Women and have been an active Board member every year since. I cannot think of a better way to close my four years of Board service than to share what ABWA is all about via a message Amanda Smiley shared after attending the NDBW “Best Friends Lunch” in June. When considering why you stick around ABWA, I pray you have at least one if not many stories like this. When considering how to recruit a new member, share these types of stories. Moral of the story - do not leave ABWA before your miracle happens and SHARE the beauty of our organization with women in your life! Amanda wrote: My first impression of my friend was she was kind and truly interested in me.”…“I have since learned that she does a great job of pushing herself past her current limits and is always growing.”…“For me, the best thing about my friend is her warmth and the ease of being in her presence”…“The reason you will want to get to know her is because she will inspire you to grow and to be better.” I was speechless as my new friend uttered these words about ME at a recent luncheon we attended together as “BFFs.” I found it almost ironic as she spoke – bringing it to light in a way I had never really verbalized –YES I do push myself to grow on purpose – and little did she or anyone else know that standing there at that very moment was one of those times. You see, while I value her friendship, and those of the other women in attendance, I really didn’t “want” to be there that day. I almost feel bad now for saying that because I know she will see this, but I trust that in the short time we have gotten to know one another, she will understand. Sometimes it feels like an uphill battle for me…but much of what I do daily is purposeful. I want so much more than what is right in front of me, I want to be an inspiration to others and that can mean doing the uncomfortable. It also means that, at times, I am tired and weary…and lacking the energy just to do the little things. But on this day, I was reminded that when we push a little further we are blessed beyond measure. Kimberly Truax is an Assisted Living Manager certified by the state of Texas and a former state-certified nursing assistant. She has more than 20 years of experience and an extensive background in caring for seniors from personal care to the promotion of wellness through assisted living. Through many years of her work, individually, and with one of the nation's leaders in senior living, she has developed a genuine love, respect and enthusiasm for seniors. Her grandmother, affectionately known as 'Maw Maw' was the inspiration for Kind Companions.

Kimberly has built a team that is committed to creating a higher quality of living for seniors in Denton, Collin and Dallas counties. From experience, she understands what most want and expect from a caregiver. Making an effort to know each client's likes and dislikes, she is able to anticipate many of their needs. She has seen what so many in the industry strive to provide, but simply cannot, because they are "facilities". Facilities often cannot provide or compete with the quality and consistency that one individual can provide.

Kimberly has an adorable son Billy, enjoys dancing and loves being part of the NDBW sisterhood. You can reach out to her at [email protected] or 214-771-6498.
