Meet your NCPCA BoardDo you know who serves you on the NCPCA Board of Directors? Each month, we will introduce an NCPCA board member. Maybe some day, we’ll be introducing YOU!

This month, we would like to introduce Kyle Shelton, Vice President, Acting President.

How long have you been active on the NCPCA Board? Five years.

How long have you been in the neighborhood? I was raised in Park Hill and have been a resident of North City Park since 2005.

What brought you to North City Park? The diversity of the Park Hill area carries into the North City Park neighborhood. In addition, I have had a long time interest in the 117-year-old house I currently live in.

Why do you give your time to the community? The first time I attended an NCPCA general meeting was March 2009. The number of people in attendance, the participation, and enthusiasm of the members was surprising to me. Impressed with the level of concern by those attending the meet-ing regarding neighborhood activity, I decided to join.

What are your hopes and dreams for the neighborhood? More residents of the neighborhood to become active members of NCPCA. This could lead to encouraging business owners to consider vacant business properties within the neighborhood as potential properties for future businesses.

CoMMuNiTy ANNouNCEMENTSObituaryDaisy E. Warren | July 27, 1921 – July 18, 2014Long-time North City Park resident, Daisy Elizabeth Berry-Warren, moved to Denver in 1956 with her husband, Johnson Warren, and only child, Donald Warren. Daisy had many interests in her 92 years. Those who knew her know that she was very independent and loved to drive and while doing so she enjoyed shopping, greatly. Daisy also enjoyed music. She enjoyed the sounds of Motown and had a very extensive record collection. She enjoyed talking about politics and the latest news. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and catching up with family and friends over the phone.

Daisy attended and was a member of Cleaves Memorial CME Methodist Church, where she served as an Usher. Daisy also worked as a domestic for many years before taking a job at Conti-nental Airlines until she retired in 1975.

Those who knew Daisy, know that she chose her friends wisely. She had a large group of good and faithful friends. Daisy is survived by her son Donald Warren, of North City Park and grand-daughter, Ashley Esau-Warren of Lakewood.

Our neighborhood faces issues that need to be addressed as a neighborhood: zoning change requests, proposed changes to City Park, pro-posed commercial and residential development, proposed transit changes, etc. The only way to have a real voice in these issues (to be heard by decision makers), is to have a unified, coordi-nated response.

The North City Park Civic Association (NCP-CA) strives to provide this voice. Broad mem-

bership and active participation strengthen the voice of NCPCA.

It takes time, energy and commitment to build relationships—which is what builds commu-nity. The old adage: “you get out what you put in” is true in this case. Consider what you can do to continue to make North City Park a neighborhood where families who move in find connections and a sense of community—and decide to stay.

What Makes a Neighborhood a Community?
