Other community associations concern themselves with baton twirling classes and scheduling soccer games. At NCCA we hold town hall meetings on gang exit strategies and slum landlords. We host children’s lunch programs and workshops to dissuade teens from prostitution.

NC FUN FACT:

invented in North Central Regina

Girl Guide Cookies were invented in North Central Regina. Guide Leader Christina Riepsamen prepared first batch in her kitchen on the 1300-block Robinson in 1927 for her daughters to sell door-to-door for 10 cents a bag.

OUR FOOTPRINT

The North Central neighbourhood in Regina, covers 183 square blocks and is currently home to over 12,000 residents.

We know where we live. Albert to Lewvan, Railroad tracks to railroad tracks. “There is no wrong side of the tracks.”

IN BRIEF:• North Central’s rich history began with its establishment as an

immigrant and working-class neighbourhood in the late 19th century.

• It has been shaped by both local movements and broader provincial trends, including the development of the CPR, the creation of housing for WWII veterans, and the increasing urban residency of First Nations and Métis people.

• Contemporary North Central suffers from a negative reputation related to crime and violence, and important contributions from the neighbourhood have been obscured by this perception.

My respect for Rob started when he was on our community associa-tion board. We lost our Program Co-ordinator. We desperately needed VRPHERG\�WR�¿OO�WKDW�UROH��5RE�VXJ-gested ‘I would step down from the board and temporarily take over that role.’ And of course the rest is history. We’ve seen this community come together in a way that speaks well for the future. We are seeing wonderful progress in this community and it’s only going to get better.
