Career Firefighter Scholarship

Scholarship Overview The North Carolina State Firemen’s Association (NCSFA) will sponsor the following scholarships in the listed amounts for each of the three regions in the state. These regions will be the East, Piedmont, and West. Four categories of scholarships will be awarded in each region for a total of $62,000.00 per region ($186,000 statewide). Career Firefighter Two $6,000.00 scholarships will be awarded in each region for those attending a regionally accredited four-year college/university. Two $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded in each region for those attending a regionally accredited two-year college/university. Overview of Scholarship Rules The NCSFA Scholarship Administration Policies direct all aspects of the NCSFA Scholarship Program. Rule excerpts below are not comprehensive and are intended only as an overview of the program. The NCSFA Scholarship Administration Policies apply to all scholarships that are sponsored by the NCSFA or any other related organization that sponsors scholarships through the NCSFA. All awardees must be a member of the North Carolina State Firemen’s Association or a family member (son or daughter) of the NCSFA at the time of submission of the application. This will be verified by looking at the current roster of the department submitted in January of the year of the application. All required information shall be filled out on the scholarship application form. If any application is found to be deficient it shall be disqualified from the process. All applicants who are awarded a scholarship must attend a regionally accredited college/university that is recognized by the US Department of Education. No applicant can submit an application for more than one region of the state. The scholarship regions shall align with the same boundaries as the NCSFA boundaries and will include the East, Piedmont, and West. Any applicant found to have applied in more than one region shall have both scholarship applications removed from consideration. All applications will only be graded on the criteria as submitted on the application. No other factors shall be considered and the selected members of the scholarship review committee will independently review all information submitted on the application.
Specifics for Scholarship Category
Career Firefighter Only current paid firefighters who receive compensation for and are employed as a firefighter can apply for a scholarship in this category.
Compensation will be determined by the status that is listed on the current NCSFA roster that is submitted in January of each year. NCSFA will also check applicants to see if their names appear on more than one fire department roster. A paid firefighter who is also a volunteer can only apply for the paid firefighter scholarship. Any paid firefighter who applies for a volunteer scholarship shall have all applications removed from consideration. All awarded paid firefighter scholarships will be given to those students who are attending and majoring in a field that is considered related to fire and emergency services.
Application Process Instructions Electronic submission will not be accepted. All submissions must be received by US mail or other courier (FedEx, UPS, etc.) Application packages must contain all required documentation. (NCSFA) who is a Full Time firefighter working at least 1000 hours annually. The applicant must attend an
institution that is regionally accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of
