Happy New Year, and heresto a prosperous 2013. My frstfour months as your chamber

    president and CEO has gone

by quickly. I have met withas many members and com-munity leaders as I can to gaina better sense of whats oneveryones mind. From thosemeetings I am entering 2013with a lot of excitement and

    optimism.With economic development

opportunities on the horizon, the chamber is postured toserve as the source for busi-ness growth, retention, at-traction and small business

    development.You have trusted us with

your membership investment. We ask that you continue to

partner with us in engagingkey business groups, govern-ment leaders and educators to

improve the economic healthof our city.

Ive discovered though thatthere remain many challengesahead for business and thiscommunity. An uncertaineconomic climate continues to

force businesses to be innova-tive and do things differentlythan theyve ever done before.

Many people believe that thechamber should get involvedwith a variety of initiatives andactivities. Some of the ideas

are good, but do they ft withinour mission? And, does thechamber have the capacity totake them on?

We have realigned our teamand are working hard to de-velop a strategic plan that of-

fers focus and direction. Ourmission is to advocate for the

business community and pro-vide opportunities for businessengagements and growth. Asa catalyst for business growth,we will seek common ground.

Weve all heard the old sayingif you keep doing the samething you can expect the sameresults. If we seek change, wemust reach a point where we

place our communitys interestahead of our own. Lets grow

    together.We look forward to com-

municating with you about ourprogress. I encourage you tooffer feedback by emailing meat ter ra@northaugustacham-
