For centuries, shutters have been prized as fine window furniture
and a testament to a homeowner’s discerning style and sophistication.
Shutters not only provide design, privacy, and light control options,
they can also enhance the value of a home. Like any home investment,
only shutters of exceptional quality will provide long-term value and
increase appreciation.
at Norman, we feel the best shutter is the result of meticulous
management of each step in its creation. Every step: research and
development, product design, raw materials sourcing, handcrafting,
quality control, and even packaging are carried out with one goal, to
bring you matchless quality, durability, and long-term value in your

keep your options open
Our choice of options makes the ordinary extraordinary. We offer the
most custom shutter options available. Begin by selecting from a color
palette that includes a variety of paints and stains. Choose from a
variety of options and the result is a completely customized,
handcrafted shutter, tailored perfectly to fit your windows, your home
and your style. With Normandy shutters you can keep it simple or
have it all, that’s the beauty of making it your own.
We employ the same time-honored, woodworking techniques used by artisans of
exceptional home furnishings. rest assured that all Normandy Shutters are made of
solid hardwood, using only the finest materials and handcrafted especially for you.
a well-crafted shutter closes solidly, does not have unsightly gaps, and stays that way
year in and year out. To accomplish this, each part of the shutter must resist twisting,
bowing, cupping and all other forms of instability inherent to natural wood.

Quarter-Sawn
Flat-Sawn
The finest heirloom furniture is made from quarter-sawn wood to ensure
generations of durability and so are the stained louvers of Normandy Shutters.
In quarter-sawing, the wood is harvested in a way that makes it less susceptible
to cupping, twisting and warping. Cuts are made parallel to the wood medullary
rays instead of across, which gives the louvers remarkable strength and stability.
Craftsmen have recognized that quarter-sawn
wood results in a superior shutter product.
Quarter-sawing yields fewer usable boards and
takes much longer to dry. These boards are highly
prized and well worth the effort and time it takes
to produce them.

A Proper Joint for the Job – traditionally used in
demanding furniture and building construction,
mortise and tenon joints are designed to withstand
the shear stress and racking forces applied when
operating a shutter. This makes the mortise and
tenon an ideal joint for Norman shutters.

Reinforced Engineered Stile – Multiple layers of
wood are bonded together to bolster the stability
of the core of the stile – making for a robust and
hearty support system for your shutter.
Wood Preparation – Prescription Wood Conditioning®, our
trademarked wood drying technique, dries the wood to
emulate the environmental conditions of the location
where the shutter will be installed. This practice also
reduces post-installation shrinking and swelling.

depth of character
For the ultimate brilliance and resilience, we begin by prepping the
wood surface for the finish. It takes multiple sequences of sanding with
progressively finer sandpaper to open the pores of the wood, and by
applying multiple coats of paint or stain, we create the best finish possible.
In our opinion, hand conditioning the wood in this manner is necessary,
however labor-intensive. It is the best process to create the most favorable
surface, be it paint or stain.
Normandy’s wood grain characteristics are exceptional. With stain, the
distinctive wood grain has an enhanced color, depth and pattern character
with the inherent texture of the timber being defined. The clear coating
protects the surface without masking the beauty of the grain. Like your
shutters smooth? our contemporary paints gleam on the satin polished
surface. What ever your personal style – warm and rustic or sleek and
refined, you sure to find the perfect match for your décor.
A ll windows are not created equal. The
Normandy specialty collection includes
shapes beyond the conventional square and
rectangle. If you have arches, hexagons,
sliding or French doors, double hung
windows or other specialties, we’ve got you
covered. our specialty shutters can be crafted
for virtually any window opening. Nearly any
shape can be built with operable louvers and
panels that open for easy access to the window.
Now, every window in your home can be
dressed with a Normandy Shutter.

Some shutter manufacturers take shortcuts that sacrifice quality and the result
is a substandard product that won’t add value to your home. These companies
may be inexperienced, preoccupied with profit or lack focus on shutters. Their
products can suffer from limited manufacturing skill levels, deficient machinery
and haphazard outsourcing of critical processes.
many of Normandy Shutters desirable qualities come from applying traditional
furniture construction and integrating manufacturing innovations — without
any pre-fabrication and short-cuts that can compromise quality. Norman
shutters are built to enjoy for a lifetime and custom construction is the best
way to ensure a precise fit and flawless, long-term shutter operation.
