Dear Parents/Guardians, 

Students entering the 3rd grade must complete the following assignments, prior to the first day of school, August 20, 2018. These assignments are mandatory and will be the first grades your child earns for the 2018-2019 school year.

ELA Requirements: This summer, students must read two books from the list below and complete the assigned tasks. Students will be graded by test or project for each book chosen.

1st Book: Magic Tree House Fact Tracker: Space by Mary Pope Osborne, is a mandatory read for all incoming 3rd graders. Students will be given a paper and pencil test the first week of school for a grade. A study guide will be available on the school’s website.

2nd Book/Novel: This one is your child’s choice! Choose one novel from the list below.

Reading Tasks: For the 2nd book, choose one project from below for a grade.

1. Draw a picture of your favorite page. Explain in 1 -2 paragraphs why this page is yourfavorite.

2. Make a picture timeline of all the events in the book.3. Make a poster about the book and write a one paragraph summary.4. Cut out magazine pictures to make a collage or poster illustrating the main idea of the
