) INTRODUCTION

During May of 1989, a total of 3.7 km of IP/Resistivity surveying was carried out on the property.

The objective of the survey was to map polarizable sulphide zones believed to be associated with gold mineralization on this property. Previous IP surveying indicated the mineralized shears could be mapped as low resistivity zones with associated sporadic IP.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS

The Oliver Severn property is located within the Walters and Elmhirst Townships of the Thunder Bay Mining Division. Access is via route 801 west of Jellicoe, which is followed to the Black Sturgeon River. A good bush road is followed for 12 km east to the northern property boundary.

The property consists of 76 contiguous, unpatented mining claims registered in the name of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited (no personal liability) in the Thunder Bay Mining Division.

The grid consist of a 4.4 km baseline (@ 042 0 ) and 12 km of wing lines spaced at 400m with 25m stations.

3.0 GEOLOGY

The Oliver Severn claims cover the Coyle Lake intrusion and intermediate to felsic volcanics of the Tashota Volcanic Belt within the Superior Province. The intrusive rocks consist of medium to medium fine grained, leucogranite to granodiorite. Where shearing is well developed, the rocks become chlorite and/or sericite schists. The adjacent volcanic rocks are feldspar porphyritic dacites and andesite flows.

A major structural feature is readily identified from airphptos and the 1989 government Tashota-Onaman regional airborne mag survey. This structure is referred tp as the Oliver Severn Shear Zone and trends northeast for at least 10 km. The Oliver Severn shear zone consists of one main fault or shear zone in the southern half of the property becoming several smaller, possible anastomosing, shear zones north of the Oliver Severn gold occurrence. The gold occurrences found to date are located in the northern half of the structure.

oThe Oliver Severn No.l occurrence is a 2 to 10m wide zone striking 080 which hosts several steeply dipping quartz veins in a zone of strong shearing. This zone has an observed strike length of 65m before disappearing into a swamp to the west, (it is cut by a 0200 az. shear zone to the east). Gold assays returned from channel sampling of the zone averaged 6.0 g Au70.75m, 4.46 g/ Au/0.75, 3.94 g au70.75m, 2.91 g Au/l.Sm and 3.6 g au/S.Om.

The Oliver Severn !-.:.2 ar.d 3 occurrences are shear zones trending 020 0 az. with discontinuous 5 tc 10 cm wide, steeply dipping quartz-pyrite boudin. Grab samples of the quartz-pyrite vein material returned up to 17.2 gpt Au, however, the shear zones averaged 2.7 gpt Au7l.75m and 2.74 gpt Au/l.Om. The No.2 and 3 gold occurrences are hosted by chlorite-rich and sericite-rich shear zones respectively. The two structures have a reasonably continuous strike length however, the auriferous quartz-pyrite veining is not extensive.

The survey was carried out by J. Foster, J. Haclsaac, J. Nash, E. Vanlieshout and R. Swire, all employees of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited.

5.0 INSTRUMENTATION

5.1 Induced Polarization/Resistivity

The IP/Resistivity survey was carried out using the Phoenix IPT-1 transmitter with a 2.5 kw generator and an Scintrex IPR-8 receiver. A dipole- dipole array configuration was utilized with current and potential electrode separation of 25m with spreads of n^ to 4. The current 'on/off time was 2 seconds. The primary voltage measured during the 'on 1 current cycles is a function of the electrical resistivity of the ground. The calculated resistivity R is: R z K * V/I, where V is the 'on 1 time voltage, I is the 'on 1 time current and K is a geometric constant determined by the relative positions of the current and potential electrodes.

The secondary voltage, measured in time intervals during 'off current cycles, is a function of the polarizability of the ground. In all cases, the chargeability measured by the IPR-8 is the mean value of the transient voltage over a selected time interval which is:

1) normalized for the length of the integration interval2) normalized for the primary steady state voltage3) normalized for the decay curve shape4) normalized for the number of pulses

The units of the quantities measured are therefore dimensionless and are normally expressed in 'millivolts per volt 1 .

Page 7: NORANOA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED · normally expressed in 'millivolts per volt1 . J DISCUSSION OF RESULTS 6.1 IP/Resistivity Survey The northern half of the current exploration

J DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

6.1 IP/Resistivity Survey

The northern half of the current exploration grid was surveyed (lines 0,4,8,12,16N). Over 50% of the surveyed area was impenetrable due to prohibitive overburden thicknesses and swampy terrain. Where penetration was achieved, backgrounds were in the range of 4-5 Hv/V for chargeability and 10,000-50,000 ohm-m for resistivity.

There seems to be no indication of significant sulphides associated with either the three gold occurrences or the shearing on the property; no chargeability anomalies were defined by the survey. This seems typical of a tightly sheared intrusive body. The only interpretable response delineated by the survey was that of a fault/shear at 150E on line 1600N and at OOE on line 1200N. This corresponds to the low resistivity anomaly mapped by Mattagami Lake Exploration Ltd. in their 1981 IP/resistivity survey.

The IP zone mapped by Mattagami was essentially a low resistivity zone with subtle to negligible associated IP effect (never more than 50% background). Ut IP anomalies were interpreted from resistivity-biased metal factor values and more correctly indicate low resistivity rather than IP effect.

7.0 CONCLUSIONS

Due to significant overburden thickness and apparently weak or sporadic associated sulphide mineralization, IP/Resistivity did not provide effective target definition.

With the exception of the lew resistivity zone corresponding to the Oliver Shear, no anomalous responses were found.

8.0 RECOMMENDATIONS

1) No further IP/Resistivity surveying is warranted on this property.

2) Further detailed magnetic surveying should be carried out to extend the accurate mapping of the shearing it has already provided.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This report summarizes the 1989 work program carried out on the Oliver-Severn gold property in Northwest Ontario. The Oliver-Severn patents were opened for staking early in 1989 and subsequently acquired by James Parres. Noranda Exploration optioned these 13 claim's and staked an additional 63 claims to cover the strike extension of the main Oliver-Severn occurrence as well as several other small occurrences.

The Oliver-Severn occurrence was found in 1934 and at the time trenching values reported were 0.17 oz Au/t over a width of 4 feet 8 inches for a length of 200 feet. Matagami Lake mines re-located several small gold occurrences in shear zones north of the original quartz vein that assay 1.0 to 2.0 g Au/t over 2 to 3m.

The 1989 Noranda work program consisted of prospecting, detailed and claim line geology, "B" horizon soil geochemistry and a detailed magnetics survey.

2.0 LOCATION (Figure 1)

The Oliver-Severn property is located in Walters and Elmhirst Townships, N.W. Ontario (Figure 1). Access is via rout 801, west of Jellico, which is followed to the Black Sturgeon River. A good bush road is followed for 12km east to the northern property boundary.

3.0 PROPERTY STATUS (Figure 2)

The property consists of 76 contiguous claims registered in the name of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited (N.P.L.) in the Thunder Bay, Mining Division. The first year anniversary dates for these claims are between June 2nd and 26th, 1990 and are summarized in Appendix I.

4.0 GEOLOGY - PROSPECTING (Figure 3 and 4)

A program of claim line and flagged line prospecting/geology was carried out over the Oliver-Severn claims. The claims cover the Coyle Lake Intrusion and intermediate to felsic volcanics of the Tashota-Volcanic Belt. The intrusive rocks consist of medium to medium fine grained, leucogranite to granodiorite. Where shearing is well developed the rocks become chlorite and/or sericite schists. The adjacent volcanic rocks are feldspar porphyritic dacites and andesite flows.

A major structural feature is readily identified from airphotos and the 1989 government Tashota - Onaman regional airborne mag survey. This structure is referred to as the Oliver Severn Shear Zone and trends northeast for at least 10km. The Oliver- Severn shear zone consists of one main fault or shear zone in the southern half of the property becoming several smaller, possible anastomosing, shear zones north of the Oliver-Severn gold occurrence. The gold occurrence found to date are found in the northern half of the structure.

Detailed prospecting and geology was carried out along 50 to 100m flagged traverses in the vicinity of the Oliver-Severn No. l, 2 and 3 gold occurrences. Three gold occurrences are known on the property and one new quartz vein was discovered during the 1989 program. The results of the channel sampling and hand trenching are included in Appendix II and the details for the Oliver-Severn No.l showing are given in Figure 4. The gold assays returned from channel samples from the Oliver-Severn No 1. showing averaged 6.0 g AuX0.75m, 4.46 g Au/0.75, 3.94 g AuX0.75m, 2.91 g Au/l.Sm and 3.6 g Au/3-Om. These results are consistent with the previous work in 1934 but are notable lower than the assays obtained by Matagami Lake Exploration in 1980. The Oliver-Severn No. l vein is a 2 to 10m wide zone striking 080* az, hosting several steeply dipping quartz veins, in a zone of strong shearing. The quartz is invariably sheared and contains up to 15*M) disseminated and large 20cm patches of pyrite ± chalcopyrite. Grab samples of up to 33.1 g Au were returned from the sulphide rich pods. The occurrence has an observed strike length of 65m and disappears into the swamp to the west and is cut by a 020 az shear zone to the east. The host rock appears to be a well sheared granite that is now a chlorite schist.

The Oliver-Severn No. 2 and 3 occurrences are shear zone trending 020' az, with discontinuous 5 to 10 cm wide, steeply dipping quartz-pyrite boudin. Grab samples of the quartz-pyrite vein material returned up to 17.2 g Au however, the shear zones average 2.7 g auX1.75m and 2.74 g/Au/l.Om, which is consistent with Matagami Lake Mines work in 1980.

The Nos. 2 and 3 gold occurrences are hosted by chlorite-rich and sericite rich shear zones respectively. The two structures have a reasonably continuous strike length however, the auriferous quartz-pyrite veining is not extensive.

Regional compass and flagging traversing at 100m and 200m intervals was carried along the Oliver-Severn Shear Zone and claim line geology/prospecting was carried out along the remainder of the claim group (Figure 3). The results of the regional work were generally negative. The Coyle Lake Stock away from the Oliver-Severn Shear Zone is a massive - blocky medium grained, leucogranite to granodiorite intrusion. Apart from fine grained phases at the margins and the occasional feldspar porphyry dykes the regional work did not identify any differentiated phase.

Narrow discontinuous shear zones were identified 1) south of Coyle Lake and 2) west and east subparallel to the Oliver Severn Nos. 2 and 3 Shear zones but no significant gold values were returned. A new 2-3m wide quartz vein hosted by sheared granite was found on the southern part of the property during the 1989 work. It was hand stripped and exposed for 50m and traced in outcrop by prospecting for another 50m south and 100m north. Anomalous values of up to 860 ppb Au were returned. No other significant assay results were returned from the regional work.

5.0 SOIL GEOCHEMISTRY (Figure 5)

A total of 650 "B" horizon soil samples were taken from a compassed and flagged grid with 200m lines and 25m stations established from a 3.2km cut baseline. The samples were dried and analyzed by a fire assay - A.A. method at TSL Laboratories (Appendix III). All values of lOppb Au and greater were plotted and the results are shown on Figure 5.

A major trend of anomalous soil values occurs southeast of the baseline and extends from L16N 1+50E to L-0 4+50E. On line 16N and 14N. This trend is 100m south of the No. 3 shear and on line ION and 8N it is in the vicinity of the No. 2 shear zone. On line 6N to 2N the area is swampy with no outcrop observed. The northwest corner of the grid area has several unexplained anomalous soil clusters that may be associated with narrow shear zones. In the southwestern part of the survey area, anomalous values are found down slope of the newly discovered quartz vein and its along-strike projection. Several anomalous soil values on lines 6S and l OS, l +OOE of the baseline requires follow up work.

Page 31: NORANOA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED · normally expressed in 'millivolts per volt1 . J DISCUSSION OF RESULTS 6.1 IP/Resistivity Survey The northern half of the current exploration

Interpretation of the soil survey is complicated by an ice direction that parallels the baseline. The elongated nature of many of the anomalies is believed to be related to point source anomalies that have been glacially transported. Trenching and prospecting of soil anomalies should focus where linears associated with the Oliver-Severn shear zone intersect the northern most or strongest part of a soil anomaly.

6.0 GROUND MAGNETICS (Figure 6)

The northern portion of the Oliver-Severn Shear Zone was covered by a detailed mag survey. A total of 34km of mag data were collected with a Geonics MP-3 proton magnetometer. Readings were at 12.5m intervals and at 6.25m intervals where wide variations in readings occurred. A compassed and flagged grid with 50m lines and 25m stations was used for control from 6+OOS to 16+OON on the existing cut baseline (Figure 6).

The observed shear zones occur as mag lows on a plan view and in most cases can trace out the strike of the shear zone. Back ground values of 400 to 500 gammas in the granite occur to the west and locally to the east but are punctuated by spot highs which often reflect extensive areas of bedrock exposure.

The main Oliver-Severn Shear Zone is represented by an extensive mag low flanked to the east by spotty mag high values. Where quartz veins occur (ie. No. l Showing) disseminated magnetite is present with weak hematitic alteration. Magnetite in part explains the numerous spot anomalies in an area with abundant outcrop from BL-0 to L4N 1+50E. Prospecting in this area identified several quartz pods but no veining with any strike length. An extensive mag high trending 040* az from BL-6S to L8N 4E may reflect magnetite alteration adjacent to an unidentified shear zone or a mafic dyke.

The No. 2 and 3 shear zones are prominent mag lows with flanking mag highs reflecting magnetite concentrations. The mag data on the north half of the survey area shows several lense shaped mag highs which supports the interpreted anastomosing nature of the shear structure in that area.

Page 32: NORANOA EXPLORATION COMPANY, LIMITED · normally expressed in 'millivolts per volt1 . J DISCUSSION OF RESULTS 6.1 IP/Resistivity Survey The northern half of the current exploration

7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Prospecting failed to identify any new showings on the Oliver-Severn property. Soil geochemistry and ground mag data have shown some targets for follow up work. Trenching and prospecting should be carried out over areas where the northern or up ice part of soil anomalies are cut by known auriferous structures.

Respectfully submitted,
