What are Spunlaced Nonwovens?

Main Functions
The basic principle of the spunlacing process consists of passing a web beneath a series of high pressure, small diameter, water jets. The typical diameter for the water jets is
between 100 and 120 micron, of which there are several thousand individual jets across the width of the machine.
As the web passes beneath the water jets, the water jets penetrate through the material, and rebound back due to the support element , this combined action causing the individual fibers to become entangled together to form a dimensionally stable product.
The process consists of multiple nozzles or injectors placed sequentially, typically between 5 and 10 in a flat or rotary configuration, in such a way that both surfaces of the material are entangled.
By changing the structure of the supporting element, apertures, patterns, or, 3-dimensional structures can be permanently imparted into the material.

Protective Apparel – Insulation Layers
Industrial Medical Automotive Filtration Apparel Composites
Product characteristics specialty nonwovens offer Improved wearing comfort and insulation properties thanks to the nonwoven specific surface and the air trapped in the fabric Enhanced TPP rating (= thermal protection performance to measure the heat resistance) 7 – 10% higher than competitive products Good pilling resistance maintaining integrity after laundering and abrasion Soft and lightweight material

Norafin Komanda®
Traditional textiles have historically been the preferred materials of choice for protective apparel applications. Proven performance / durability Readily available No viable alternative
New demands in protection levels require new technology solutions Increasingly harder for traditional textiles to meet these demands Increasing demands for comfortable solutions
Nonwoven textiles have always had the potential to meet both the demands of today and tomorrow Main issues have been that they are not suitable for apparel applications due to poor
durability and comfort. To date, their use has been restricted to single or very limited-use applications
Recent internal developments in our technologies have allowed us to develop a range of materials that Give true multi-use capability Offer a high performance alternative to traditional textiles in today’s applications The flexibility to adapt and innovate to meet the needs of the future
Industrial Medical Automotive Filtration Apparel Composites
Compared to current materials, the Norafin Komanda® range of spunlaced engineered nonwovens are characterized by Improved heat, flame and associated performance attributes
Thermal insulation Arc flash protection Flash fire protection
Lighter basis weight, yielding the potential for; Improved comfort Reduced heat stress Improved breathability Improved air permeability
Excellent abrasion resistance Traditional textile like characteristics Wash durable
Even increasing thermal performance after washing

Arc Flash Incidents – ALARMING FACTS
according to an American research institute, 5 – 10 arc flash explosions occur in electric equipment in the USA every day
for Europe, between 1,000 – 3,000 electrical accidents at work are reported to the authorities every year
serious injuries can be caused that require treatment in a special burn center

Wash Durability A truly re-usable nonwoven structure Garment lifecycle reflects usage lifecycle
Comparative wash testing indicates: Material will meet 100 x wash requirement of NFPA 2112 for FR fabrics Conservative expectations are for a garment life between 50 and 75 wash cycles. Samples have been washed through 150 home laundry cycles.
