I HAD AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR THIS MORNING. HE ARRIVED EARLY, SAT DOWN WITH ME AND CHATTED FOR A WHILE ABOUT HOW THINGS WERE CURRENTLY GOING FOR ME IN MY LIFE. AFTER VERY CAREFULLY AND COMPASSIONATELY LISTENING TO ALL THAT I HAD TO SAY, HE SAW THE STRESS ON MY FACE AND THE TEARS IN MY

EYES.

HE STOOD UP, WALKED OVER TO ME, LEANED OVER AND GENTLY HELD ME FOR AWHILE BE-CAUSE I WAS HAVING A REALLY BAD MORNING. THEN, AFTER REASSURING ME NOT TO WORRY, THAT EVERYTHING WOULD WORK OUT FOR ME AND BE JUST FINE, HE ASKED ME IF I KNEW OF ANYONE ELSE THAT COULD USE A VISIT FROM

TODAY’S DAILY WORD Joy

My soul sings a song of joy.

Many different activities connect me to the joy that is

deep within me. Being enveloped by the silence of a snow-

fall may fill me with quiet joy. Listening to a choir or joining

in the singing of my favorite songs may lift my spirits.

The simple touch of a loved one's hand or the gentle sup-

port of a caregiver may lighten my heart. Lighting a can-

dle, saying a prayer and blessing a meal can all be

sources of joy in my day.

Whatever the activity, I realize joy when my mind is fixed

on finding Spirit within each of my experiences. True and

lasting joy comes from within--from God, the Source of

every joy.

Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud

songs of joy.--Psalm 47:1

VESTRY The regular Vestry meeting was held in Oc-

tober. The Treasurer reported that the new

Teller system being used each Sunday is

working very well and no complaints have

been received. She also presented the Ves-

try with an advertisement for a new soft-

ware package designed to handle electroni-

cally all of the necessary paper work neces-

sary for our proper record keeping. It was

also reported that the Bishop had an-

nounced at the Western Deanery Meeting

that the diocese would not be increasing

the Diocesan Assessment for 2010.

The annual Stewardship Drive was planned

and a new card design was proposed.

Rev. Gretchen announced that Hand Sani-

tizer will be provided at each pew for those

attending service.

NURSES' NOTES

The following holiday health tips are from the web site about.com, a site that special-izes on health information for seniors. The two I have chosen are of special interest to those on continuing medications for chronic health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc, and are particularly perti-nent for the holiday season ahead of us.

Holidays often disrupt routines and may cause you to forget your life-saving medica-tions. As you note social appointments add a reminder to take your medications or order re-fills. If you are traveling be sure to take enough medications with you in case of de-lays and have a copy of your prescriptions in case of loss. Be sure to take along a phone number for your doctor along with your health insurance cards, in case of emergency. Carry your medications in your carry-on luggage if you are flying.

Some foods react with medications, de-creasing or increasing the effect with sometimes dangerous results. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your medications and find out if there are any foods you should avoid while taking them. "Often used holiday spices like cloves, thyme and sage can interfere by as much as 50 percent with the body's natural ability to utilize common drugs," says Dr. Amy Anderson, internal medi-cine physician on the medical staff at Baylor University Medical Center.

Hope your holidays are both joyous and healthy.
