    Oppressive HeatA Savage Worlds One Sheet or Heroic/Legendary

    characters in the Suzerain setting.

    Realm: Mortal realms, American Grit (USA inthe Great Depression o the 1930s).

    Te Lords o Oppression are the dark twins to theLords o Order (see Savage Suzerainpage 67), spiritswho serve the Great Spirit o Oppression in theMaelstrom. And just like the Lords o Order, thereare mortal hosts who wear the scales to become Lordso Oppression. Feudal Japan is a avored recruitingground or such dark anti-heroes, but one mortalcame to their attention in the winter o 1931-32 whenhe was in the Imperial Japanese Army. He played hispart in the invasion o Manchuria, a notoriously dark

    and bloody moment in history. Afer his time as anarmy officer he went back to his ormer career asa restaurateur.

    Four years later, hes moved to the USA and is incharge o the kitchens at the Golden Hand Hotel AndCasino in Las Vegas; the Great Spirit o Oppressionwants him, but theres a Lord o Flame who has aninterest too. Te heat is on.

    Te heroes are a reelance team working or theask Force Division o the SPA, a branch o thegovernment ormed during the Great Depression toinvestigate the supernatural. I theyre used to realmhopping, this is just another law and order missionor whichever god theyre closest to. Teyre staying atthe Golden Hand at the end o a mission, recoveringin their suite their pocket realm when theres aknock at the door.

    Tis aint room service. Instead o the hotel corridorthey see the infinite expanse o the Maelstrom.Standing in the doorway is a man encased in a semi-

    transparent suit o Japanese medieval armor whichpulses and glows and shifs ever so slightly as theheroes look at it. Te man bows deeply.

    My name is Tamagozushi, and I serve the GreatSpirit o Order. Humbly, I ask to speak with you abouta matter o great importance.

    Te heroes can let him in or just talk at the rontdoor its up to them.

    Out Of The Frying Pan

    Teir visitor explains about the Lords oOppression and their interest in the head che o thiscasino, a man called Mr. Niku. I the characters couldgo down there and just make sure the representativeso the Lords o Oppression dont get to recruit Mr.Niku, thatd be greatly appreciated by all the good

    guys in the universe. amagozushi isnt sure whotheyll be sending, but i the heroes cant reason withthem or convince Mr. Niku to turn down their offer,it might come down to fisticuffs.

    Oh, and the Lords o Oppression are movingrightnow.No time to lose.

    amagozushi leaves and shuts the door behindhim. Te next time the heroes open the door, theres aswank hotel corridor and, at the end o it, an elevator

    down to the main floors. Including the kitchens. Teelevator goes ping and the doors open. ime to headdown there and convince this Niku guy to turn downthe offer hes about to get.

    Entering the kitchens isnt tough, but this is aVegas casino and the mob guys who just built it arepretty security conscious strangers wandering intorestricted areas are likely to raise their suspicions.Unless the heroes successully sneak or disguisethemselves as staff, hotel heavies in ill-fitting suitswill ollow into the kitchens afer a couple o minutes.

    Inside, its not tough to find Mr. Niku. For starters,hes the only Japanese guy in there. Ten, hes the onebarking orders at all the browbeaten sous-ches likethis was some kind o military operation. And finallytheres the name tag he wears on his pristine whiteoveralls. Notice checks arent required.

    Standing next to a flaming grill, he looks over atthe heroes when they enter his kitchen and ordersthem to get out. Teyve got a ew seconds to saysome words and get an initial response rom him(likely to be another order to get out, brandishing

    a sharp knie or emphasis) beore the door to theloading bay opens and a square-jawed, no-nonsenseUS army officer strides in with a squad o his finestmen. His eyes ocus on the head che right away andthe heroes can see him checking the name tag whenMr. Niku turns around in surprise.

    If You Cant Stand The Heat

    In one fluid movement the officer strides towardsthe che, his men in tow. Even as hes doing so, theheroes elesmae are telling them what they mightalready have figured the officer has a elesma too(its an ugly soldier ant spirit). Hes also clearly morespiritually potent than any one o the heroes, and has

    some kind o spiritual armor over him in the spiritworld. Yaki Niku, I am charged by my superiors tobring you beore them, and to do so in a swif andexpedient manner. I all you others would step aside

    please, we have a vehicle waiting out back.

    Te other staff scuttle out o the way. Mr. Nikuhas no idea who the oppressive army officer is or whohe represents, and ears he might get deported. Heclutches the knie even tighter, weighing his options.

    What the characters do in the ollowing seconds,what they say to various people, will dictate the rest

    o this scenario. But were not done yet.

    Its time to introduce the unexpected ingredientinto this scenario, a huge spirit o flame. Tis guyerupts rom the flaming grill when it seems mostappropriate, towering over Mr. Niku. Tere areLords o Flame in America in the 1930s and theyrenot impressed that all these other agents o the godsare muscling in on their tur (or thats how they seeit, at any rate). A huge spirit o flame is their way o

    telling everyone to get out o the realm they intendto take over. Te spirit will ignore Mr. Niku, who isnta Heroic character yet, and instead try to attack thebiggest group o inter-realm interlopers. And thatwould be the heroes.

    wo Rounds later you can have the casino heaviescome in, spot the army guys, and shout, Sonvabitch,its a raid!beore pulling guns and opening fire onanyone they dont like the look o. Te big livingflame in a vaguely humanoid shape is pretty scary,but theyll deal with the therapy later. For now, theyget behind kitchen counters at one end o the roomwhile the army guys take cover behind rerigeratorsand crates o supplies at the other end and in themiddle o the crossfire youve got the army officer, theheroes, the spirit o flame and Mr. Niku.

    Trow in the spicy possibility o Mr. Niku rallyingthe other kitchen staff to fight back against all theseintruders with pans and knives, and itll be quite apickle or every character involved.

    Smokin!

    I the heroes get out o the kitchen, they can try todeduce what the heck that was all about. Back in theirpocket realm upstairs, amagozushi comes visiting

    to see how it went. Any result that doesnt involve theLords o Oppression getting Mr. Niku is considereda good result. I the heroes hauled the che out othere (alive) and brought him upstairs saely, thats abonus. amagozushi has an invitation or the guy tojoin the Lords o Order and a shiny elesma to offer.Te Lords o Oppression will be annoyed. Boo sucksto them.

    As or the Lords o Flame, theyre a part o thecampaign in Noir Knights so its a neat link into thatbook or the heroes.

    Elemental: Originating rom the Realm o Fire,this spirit is an elemental creature, literally a livingflame. It doesnt suffer additional damage romcalled shots, penalties or Wound modifiers, northe effects o disease or poison. Its also immuneto Fear effects.

    Envelop:Str+d8. A spirit o flame attacks with itsbody, inflicting fire damage on its opponent. Itsnever considered unarmed and always receivesits ull Parry value.

    Flare:By spending 2 Pulse, the spirit may releasea jet o flame, treated exactly like the Burst Power.

    Hardy: Spirits o flame are tough creatures to takedown. A second Shaken result doesnt result in aWound.
