Matthew 27:3ff

When Pilate saw that he was

getting nowhere, but that instead

an uproar was starting, he took

water and washed his hands in

front of the crowd. “I am innocent

of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is

your responsibility.” All the people

answered, “Let his blood be on us

and on our children!”

Jonah 1:14

If a man is found slain, lying in a field

done. Accept this atonement for your

people Israel, whom you have

redeemed, O Lord, and do not hold

your people guilty of the blood of an

innocent man.” And the bloodshed will

be atoned for. So you will purge from

yourselves the guilt of shedding

innocent blood…
