Christian Reformed Church Submitted by Patricia Konynenbelt www.noblefordcrc.com Sunday Services – 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – Pastor Pete VanderBeek Pre-school and Nursery Sunday School – meet during the a.m. service YPS and Young Adults – Sunday evenings for either Bible Study or Social JULY/AUGUST – 2014 - the time for summer vacations and respite from daily routines such as school, etc. May and June brought an abundance of rain delaying the warm days of summer and a delay for spring planting. “Green thumbs” were anxious to plant their gardens and add color to their yards. However, our Creator God sent us the sunshine in His good time. Beauty surrounds us everywhere with flowers in full bloom and the trees giving of their shade to yards and walkways. Let us give thanks for the beauty of the creation that surrounds us; for the majestic mountains; the prairie landscape that stretches as far as the eye can see; for the beautiful sunrises and sunsets; and for the sun, moon and twinkling stars that give light for each day. * Six years of planning. Excitement is mounting. This is the year that our local Cadet Club members will not have to travel a long distance to attend the INTERNATIONAL CADET CAMPOREE. It will be held at Kamp Lone Pine near Lacombe from July 23 -30. We pray that the young men and Counselors planning to attend will enjoy the planned activities; for friendships that will be made or renewed. * The annual GEMS SUMMER CAMP will once again be held at Gull Lake. Dates for this camp are Aug. 11-15. We pray for safe travel for those attending and that a good time will be had by all attendees. * The annual Burger Bash” once again a success. Thank you to all who attended. We pray that you enjoyed the food and fellowship. * Despite the infestation of mosquitoes, the July 1st church picnic was well attended. Thank you to the Youth Group for organizing the games and prizes for all ages. A “job” well done. * Have you got your calendars marked for the Annual Daily Vacation Bible School? Take note of the advertisement elsewhere in this newsletter. The dates are Aug. 11-15 from 9:00-11:45 a.m. Children from age 4 to those who have completed grade 4 are welcome to attend. The theme for this year is “Son Treasure Island” – discovering God’s love. * Congratulations to Trevor and Tara Vanee who were blessed with the birth of their daughter Angelica Reanne on July 3rd. A sister for Rebecca. May you be blessed with God’s guiding hand as you teach your children “to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” – 2 Peter 3:18 * Congratulations to Barend and Stacy Van der kooij (nee Buday) who exchanged marriage vows on June 28th. God’s blessings to them as they begin a new chapter in their lives. “Love is of the Lord”- 1 John 4:7 * Congratulations also to Kim Pastink and Steven Bos as they plan to be married on Aug. 22nd. Congratulations also to Kyle Konynenbelt and Krystle Cordeiro Remedios who’s marriage is planned for Aug. 30th. “Through love serve one another” – Gal. 5:13 * The first semester of the 2014/15 school year is upon us. August is a time of planning for teachers and parents to prepare students for another year of learning. August is also a time for those parents who will see their sons/daughters leave home to further their education at a university or college whether that be close to home or some distant place. This is a “journey” in learning and preparing for the future. We pray for parents and students as they embark on this journey. And yes, our bus drivers also need our prayers as they prepare for their task for “transporting” precious ones to and from school each day. * Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer. Please be courteous as you travel the highways and byways of this great land. We extend a warm welcome to everyone in the community to join us in worship each Sunday. Shalom!!!

Monarch Monarch Monarch ReformedReformedReformed ChurchChurchChurch That colored arch which appears in the sky when the sun’s light falls on rain seems to act like a magnet on one’s eyes. Time after time you will hear the sudden excited exclamation “There’s a rainbow!” even more rewarding is when you see a second rainbow appear alongside the first one. Ones eyes are fixed upon that rainbow hoping that it gets brighter and forms a perfect arch. The beautiful rainbow which appears in the sky is the token of the covenant God made with Noah that the earth would never again be destroyed by water. Sundays 10:00 AM: - Worship Service with Pastor Bob Derrick - Sunday School during the Worship Service - Coffee hour following the service The Bible Study Groups will not be meeting during the summer months. The Youth Group, which included youth from the Nazarene Church, had their wind up get together on June 6-7 with a camp-out on the church grounds. This fall will bring a change to the Youth Groups. Barb and Gerald Harbers, who have led the group for seven years, will be stepping aside and Jessica Harbers will continue to lead the Nazarene Church youth in Lethbridge. During the morning worship services on Sunday, June 22, Deanna Storfie bought the message through a drama presentation of the story of Gladys Alward an English Missionary to China. The one-person drama was written and performed by Deanna of Acting Up Drama. On June 29, Pastor Luc Zogdia from Burkina Faso in Africa was a guest at the morning worship service. Pastor Luc was a Bible Translator with the Wycliffe Bible Translation for almost five years before overseeing an orphanage., looking after foreign missionaries serving in the area and pasturing in the town of Boura he is a part of the Evangelical Assembly of :Pentecostal Churches. With the help of a translator Pastor Luc spoke of the conditions in Africa, the aid needed by the people and how this aid could be bought to them. He presented the Monarch Church with a hand-made wall hanging in appreciation for the water well that the church sponsored. Thank you to all those who supported in any way the table sponsored by the Monarch Reformed Church at the Nobleford Community Garage Sale on June 7. The funds raised from this sale will be used toward the Mission fund of the church. Congratulations: ∗ To Jeff and Kristie Harbers on the birth of a son, Myles Gerrit Jeffery on May 13, 2014. proud grandparents are Bryon and Mary Harbers and great

grandmother is Hilgonda Harbers. ∗ To Devon Moltzahn and Rachel Vandebeek on their marriage on May 30, 2014. Devon and Rachel have bought a home in the Village of Nobleford. ∗ To Colin Zoeteman on his grade 12 graduation from FP Walshe High School in Fort Macleod, AB Our prayers and sympathy go to Maryanna and Pastor Bob Derrick and their family with the passing away of Maryanna’s mother Carol Napora on May 12, 2014 in Maple Ridge, BC. Maryanna and Pastor Bob along with the boys travelled to Maple Ridge for the memorial service on May 24 with Pastor Bob officiating. They also attended the inurnment of the ashes of Carol on July 9, 2014 in Port Coquitlam, BC. Tim Stotyn, husband of the late Anna Stotyn, passed away on May 10, 2014 at the age of 102 years. Tim, the son of William and Styntje Stotyn was born on December 6, 1911 on his parents homestead in the Monarch area and he grew up there. He was affiliated with the Monarch Reformed Church from the time of his birth to the time of his passing away. On December 18, 1941 Tim married Anna, daughter of Johannes and Francina Harink, and together they lived in the town of Monarch throughout their lives. Our thoughts and sympathy go to Tim and Anna’s son Tymen and his wife Donna and their family. Francis Hankinson, wife of Rev. Larry Hankinson, passed away on May 24, 2014 at the age of 80 years, through the years, Francis and Larry were familiar faces in the Monarch congregations. Rev. Hankinson was the Interim Minister for the Monarch Reformed Church in 1993 and ministered from the pulpit on numerous other occasions.

Senior’s News Submitted by Gisela Wise

Hello Seniors Here were are at the start of summer and apart from all the rain we had in June, the weather has now turned up trumps and given us some glorious sunshine. Our last Pancake Breakfast was a bit of a surprise, at this time the ladies did the cooking. We think everybody enjoyed pancakes, waffles, sausages, bacon, scrambled and fried eggs and we had fruit as well. Our next event will be Heritage Day on the 9th of August and the Seniors will once again open their doors for refreshments and sandwiches, coffee, juice and doughnuts and there will also be a bake sale. Lets hope the Weather God will be good and give us a glorious day. Our facility can be used for various functions and people are able to book the use of it, we have a fully functioning kitchen and lots of tables and chairs. Come and join our crafting afternoon on Tuesdays from 1-3pm. Anybody is welcome. Wednesday coffee morning starts at 9:15am and men's pool on Fridays from 1-3pm. Please note there will be no Pancake Breakfast in July and August, this will restart in September. We hope everybody has a lovely summer.

YOUR STORY DESERVES TO BE TOLD! Local History Book in progress!

The committee working on a new edition of our local history book is awaiting YOUR story!

You don't have to be a “Son of Wind and Soil”; you could be a “daughter of the water”,

or a “child of the wild”! If you live in the Nobleford/Monarch area we would like to include YOU.

Our brochure (copies at the museum, village office, restaurant, grocery store, and on the Village of Nobleford website) has lots of ideas on the types of things you could write about! If you need more help, contact us at [email protected]; phone one of us; or talk to us in person on Heritage Day. We'll have an information table set up at the complex and at the museum. Plans are being made to hold writing workshops in the fall that will offer more help to get you started. Our early bird deadline is fast approaching: if you submit your story before September 1 of this year, your name will be entered in a draw for a free copy of the book! Anyone who pre-purchases a copy of the book before Sept. 1, 2014 will also have their name entered in a draw for a free book. [We were saddened by the death of one of our committee members, Betty Mae Stewart. Her presence and valuable help in working on this book will be greatly missed. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to her family. We would also like to express our deep sympathy to Buck and Doreen Spencer on the passing of their daughter Shannon.]

Nobleford Parent AssociationNobleford Parent AssociationNobleford Parent Association (NPA)

Is a community-based group of volunteers that was created with one common goal in mind.

“To provide the students at Noble Central School with extra funds to assist in creating more

opportunities for field trips to science centres, extra curricular activities and various camps, just to name a few”.

Noble Central School is a small school (one of a couple of K-12 left). We as a group have come to realize that more can be done to provide additional funding and support and to create more opportunities that the students

themselves will benefit from.

The NPA is desperately searching for volunteers. REMEMBER—just a fraction of someone's time and/or support goes a long way in achieving our goal.

To find out how you can help, please contact:

The Centennial Society held a “Dessert Meeting” on May 26th for the purpose of collaborating more with the other community groups for the centennial celebrations. Thank you to those who attended and brought their delicious desserts. There was more than enough for seconds…..well, maybe thirds….There was great discussion and the plans for the centennial are unfolding. The date for the celebrations has been set for August 6-12, 2018. We are also planning on having some type of celebration every month during the centennial year. The minutes from the May 26th meeting will be sent out to all community groups. The Centennial society will be putting an entry in the parade on HERITAGE DAY and the book committee will have a booth set up at the Pancake Breakfast (curling rink) and the Museum to promote the history book. The Centennial Society was very fortunate to receive a laptop and printer (on-loan) from the Nobleford Area Museum Society. The equipment was donated to the Museum Society by the CYPRESS GROUP (Louis Mate Jr.) and will be of great use to the Centennial Society and History Book Committee. Special thanks to the Museum Society and Cypress Group for making this happen. On June 5th, we lost one of our History Book Committee members, Betty Mae Stewart. We would like to offer sincere condolences to her family, she will be missed. We would also like to extend our sincere condolences to Buck and Doreen Spencer (History Book Committee members) on the passing of their daughter, Shannon Spencer on July 3rd. Our next Centennial Society meeting will be held at 7:30 pm on July 28, 2014 at the Nobleford Area Museum. All are welcome to attend!

Open for the Summer: Monday to Saturday; 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Check us out on FACEBOOK – “Nobleford Area Museum Society” Well it certainly seems the dog-days of summer are upon us. I hope you all are enjoying the fabulous weather, minus the hoards of mosquitoes! The Museum is now open Monday to Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for the summer months (July and August). We have hired Kaven Manyshots as our summer student this year. I would like to encourage you all to come and check out YOUR museum and say hi to Kaven!

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the resignation of our Secretary, Linda Sterenberg. She has decided to step down for personal reasons. Linda has been a valued volunteer during her time as Secretary and her contributions over the many years she served were much appreciated by everyone. Thank you to Magdalena Thiim, who has agreed to stand in for Linda until elections for the executive are held at the next AGM. Our SPRING TEA, held on May 3rd was enjoyed by all. Donations were $85.00 and the hanging basket raffle netted $65.00. Thank you everyone! The pictures on this page are from our special exhibit at the Tea. The theme was “dresser accessories.” Special thanks to our photographer, Linda Sterenberg. The FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST experienced a great turnout. Guests were treated to pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs, and juice/coffee. Thank you to our pancake/egg cookers, Gary Pike, Clarence Sterenberg, and Lee Moltzahn. Special thanks as well as our hard working ladies who made sure the tables were set, coffee was made, and our guests were well looked after. Unfortunately, our SCABBY BUTTE TOUR to follow the breakfast was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. It has not been rescheduled as of yet. The Nobleford Area Museum Society has climbed another rung on the technological ladder; we now have an email account!! Our address is [email protected]. The Museum Society will be celebrating its 25th ANNIVERSARY on December 7th, 2014. In honor of this milestone, there will be a special display on Heritage Day at the museum commemorating our first 25 years. Also regarding HERITAGE DAY (August 9th), the society will also be doing temporary glitter tattoos for kids at the Museum as a fundraiser. The unveiling of our short film, “A NOBLE VISION ” will be held on Friday, August 22nd, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Noble Central School Gymnasium. Refreshments to follow. This film showcases C.S. Noble (founder of our village) and the Noble Blade Factory. We are very excited about this ambitious endeavour! Everyone in the community is invited to attend the premiere. Please see the advertisement in this newsletter for more details. As the Museum correspondent for the village newsletter, I’d like to encourage you all to send me suggestions for short articles pertaining to the history of Nobleford and the surrounding area. What about the history of Nobleford has intrigued you and you would like to know more? I can be reached at: [email protected] or 403-892-4929. As always, the Museum is always open to NEW MEMBERS . Fresh ideas and faces are always welcome! Regular meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Museum (225 Milnes St.).

Nobleford is your Community The Village of Nobleford is generally recognized as a quiet, well kept family community. Neighbors often care for each other and respect the community in which they live. Here are a few things you can do to build your community:

∗ Keep your yard neat and clean, free of weeds and tall grass. Your weeds become your neighbors.

∗ Keep your alley, laneway, boulevard neat and clear; trim trees and bushes as needed.

∗ Keep your pet off your neighbor’s property and in control. Quiet is appreciated.

∗ Clean up after your pet on public property and your own property, it’s a health issue.

∗ Visit your neighbors and talk about any issues you have mutual concerns with.

∗ Watch for children playing around Nobleford, they are valuable, lets all take care of them.

∗ SLOW down when driving through our residential neighborhoods, be safe not foolish.

∗ Please park on your driveways. This keeps the streets clear.

∗ Leave things better than what you found them, we all appreciate this.

∗ If you witness vandalism, report it to RCMP or Village office.

∗ Talk with members of your household about these principals.
