Message from the Principal
Greetings, Cardinal Families! Tomorrow, as we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I challenge you all to talk to your children about the importance of being a leader for positive change in our school and our community. Let's all be ambassadors of good and lift up those around us! We will not have school tomorrow (Monday) and students will not have school on Tuesday. Teachers will spend Tuesday planning our academic instruction for the second half of the school year. Classes will resume on a normal schedule on Wednesday. Wednesday is a paid dress down for students, benefiting our technology specials. The theme is Future Wear, so students may dress in an outfit that they might wear in the future. We look forward to seeing their crea-tive ideas! Wednesday night is our January Cardinal Convo from 5:30-6:30. The focus is on how to talk to your middle school students about contemporary issues; the topics will include social media, smoking and e-cigarettes, bullying, and other critical areas that our preteens are or will be dealing with soon. We will have home basketball games on Thursday night, so please come out and support the Cardinals! There are only a few games left in the season and we'd love to see you there. Let's have a great week of school!
Becky Draper, Ed.D. Principal

Educational Outfitters is permanently closing at
the end of January. They are currently open but
inventory is very low. Cardinal is looking for an
additional vendor; however, until a new one is
chosen, Lands’ End will be the sole uniform sup-
plier. Uniform bottoms may still be purchased
anywhere that sells uniform-style clothes.

The next PAID dress down day will take place on
Wednesday, January 22. Monies raised will benefit our

Middle School Science Fair—New
It's Science Fair time! The middle school science teachers have been hard at work developing guidelines and
a timeline for the project, and we are excited to share these with you!
Science fair projects are wonderful inter-disciplinary projects that incorporate not only science, but ELA
(through reading, spelling, writing and grammar), math (through data analysis, statistics and graphing), and
even history (through researching what has been done before)! Participating in science fairs helps develop
feelings of confidence and competition in students, and allows students to experience the scientific method
in a fun, hands-on way.
An email was sent to parents with detailed information about the science fair. In the packet, please pay spe-
cial attention to page 7. This page needs to be signed by both the student and parent and returned to your
child’s science teacher no later than Friday, January 24. If you have any questions, please email your science
teacher (email links are below). The science fair projects will be graded for mastery. Students will have time
in class to work on the written part of their projects; however all experiments must be done at home. This is
a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in a creative way, and investigate something that
truly interests them. The timeline is listed below:
1/31—Topic, Hypothesis, and Procedure due
2/5—1st check in - show/talk about what you have done
2/10—Design and Methodology due
2/20—Data check in
3/2—Execution/Data Collection due
3/11-3/13—Final Presentations
Presentation Schedule: Teacher Emails:
6th grade will present on March 11 6th Grade - Mr. Burgess
7th grade will present on March 12 7th Grade - Mrs. Mudd
8th grade will present on March 13 8th Grade - Ms. Kreutzer

and learn. Ms. Webb is continually demonstrating kindness, empathy,
hard work, and unyielding support of all cardinal students, and we are so
grateful for her leadership. Congrats, Ms. Webb!
